This virus is a doozy!

Got sick on Saturday, generally achy and exhausted, accompanied by a throat so sore it felt like I was swallowing razorblades (been checking, no white spots on tonsils so confident I've not got tonsillitis).

5 days later I'm worse rather than better, the cough is so painful, along with your standard streaming nose/eyes, ears and throat/neck and head feel like they're in a vice.

I.FEEL.AWFUL.

It's just a bad cold/flu type virus I'm sure, but by god I feel like death warmed up. A friend has it too and she's on day 9!

Anyone else? Is this a thing at the moment? Please tell me it goes as quickly as it arrives.

It is definitely possible. My husband got covid last year about a month or so after his jab.

It’s possible but as I say, I doubt it. Not least because I had a blood test and a bacterial infection was noted.

Gowlett · 17/11/2023 14:08

We’re all sick here. It’s horrible. My ears are gone now as well. Haven’t even been to the shops, fridge foraging today…

mylittleyumyum · 17/11/2023 14:15

My whole family had this three weeks ago, I succumbed first and I was the worst.

Had a strong positive 3 days into what I thought was just a nasty cold.

Husband had positive 3 days later. Both kids never got positives.

It sounds very similar to what I've just got over and honestly - I am very rarely ill and maybe visit a GP once every 5 years; I'm generally fit, healthy, eat well, etc. First I had general viral aches and pains for a day or so, then a swollen throat for 2-3 days then a cough for 2-3 days and hardly any sleep - I hadn't eaten or drank much and one morning, I was feeling slightly better after my first decent nights sleep for a week (i'd been taking paracetamol for the headache caused, I think, by all the coughing) when I suddenly felt some stomach cramps come on - like the day after you do too many sit-ups/crunchies - I went to the bathroom thinking I was constipated - I had been from all the paracetamol (which, again, I very rarely take) - I promptly passed out, fell and knocked my head - I was out cold for 5 mins while my wife tried to open the bathroom door and rouse me. She sat me up where, she says, my eyes rolled back in my head and I passed out again for another 5 mins - I came too with her shouting my name and slapping my face - I have never been ill like this before - she rang for an ambulance - even lying down for an hour my BP was 85/58 (the cause of my fainting) - I was on a trolley in a corridor at the hospital for 5 hrs (which IMHO was fine - they kept checking on me) until the systolic(top) number got above 100 - they had little in the way of explanation - other than that I hadn't eaten much for a few days...although I was allowed to leave once my BP was somewhere near normal I continued to be ill for a whole month in total - mainly with acid reflux (never had that before in my life) that started after I returned home - I had to restrict my diet to cut out coffee/chocolate, alcohol (hardly drink anything anyway), all dairy, all greasy/fatty foods (I have a very healthy diet anyway)...and take omeprazole - I was living off porridge, fruit tea, bananas and home made soup - honestly - it's been a horrible month - a whole month of being ill - I have no idea what it was other than a "virus". I had a bad reaction to the 2nd AZ covid vaccination (I'm very pro vaccination - studied immunology for 2 years) - and as far as I'm aware. not had covid - it could have been that but it doesn't quite fit the classical symptoms - no fever, breathing problems, loss of sense of taste or smell, etc. Hopefully what did not kill me has made me stronger!

This is like my house, we’ve all had the same symptoms but my sons, who were unwell for a few weeks never tested positive for covid but I did. Seems a bit strange!

larkstar I hope you are feeling a bit better now. The stomach pain that you mentioned is exactly how I started. I thought I'd pulled a muscle, then wondered if I had a water infection. Then the cough and other symptoms came on. Although I'm not actually out of bed yet, I think I feel a bit better this morning.

whosaidtha · 18/11/2023 09:40

This is me now. I thought it was just a bad cold but it's never ending and my ear is completely blocked now. The ear pain last night was excruciating

inigomontoyahwillcox · 18/11/2023 13:02

I started with the stomach issues last night - spent half the night in the bathroom. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

Thank you for your post.
I had started another thread about my husband’s illness. Your symptoms are very similar.
he has awful gastritis and acid reflux plus all the other cold/ flu type symptoms. It’s the gastric problems that are really worrying as he’s never suffered this way before though.
It’s reassuring that others have had similar symptoms, so hopefully it is just a very nasty virus.
We wish you a good recovery!

I’m on day 12 of this beauty, and only just feeling better!

It has been brutal… Started off feeling “weird” with body-shaking chills and really nauseous, then by next day had earache and deafness in both ears, like the earache I got as a child (late 50s now) weakness, sweating/chills, no appetite and a horrific headache. The sweating at night was unreal, my hair was stuck to me! My DP has also had it, but not as bad, his has been with more coughing than me, but also the lack of appetite, headache, chills, etc.

Anyone know what it is? It has felt fat worse than the average snotty cold, but hasn’t felt like the doses of Covid that I had in 2021.

It's Covid. Some people test positive for this strain and others don't but it's the same bug. I had very similar symptoms to you. I sweated a weight loss of 5lb over two nights, awful jaw and toothache, vomiting, loss of appetite, deep bone aches, headaches, now it's moved into my sinuses, three weeks on. And got Covid toe in a recently broken toe, just as it was mending. My test was so positive it looked like I'd drawn the line on with a magic marker. DS and DH had the same virus and tested negative - DH had the faintest smudge of a maybe line that you could only see in very bright light. DS, nothing. But definitely the same bug.

TotalOverhaul · 18/11/2023 18:45

It's weird reading this thread how similar symptoms and reactionshave been. I didn't pass out but felt very dizzy and lightheaded with low blood pressure and like @larkstar, ate very little then for days could only eat home made soup and bananas. I never eat bananas usually. Still on the home made soup, week three.

TheTecknician · 19/11/2023 13:12

I now have amoxicillin after a visit to out of hours doctor today. Good old NHS 111.

TheTecknician · 21/11/2023 21:54

@TheTecknician Now on different antibiotics and steroids after another visit to my own doctor today. I wasn't getting any better and was worn out.
