This virus is a doozy!

Got sick on Saturday, generally achy and exhausted, accompanied by a throat so sore it felt like I was swallowing razorblades (been checking, no white spots on tonsils so confident I've not got tonsillitis).

5 days later I'm worse rather than better, the cough is so painful, along with your standard streaming nose/eyes, ears and throat/neck and head feel like they're in a vice.

I.FEEL.AWFUL.

It's just a bad cold/flu type virus I'm sure, but by god I feel like death warmed up. A friend has it too and she's on day 9!

Anyone else? Is this a thing at the moment? Please tell me it goes as quickly as it arrives.

I was sent home from work on Monday as soon as I walked in, had Tuesday off already but had to go into my other job (own a small business) which was an hr and a 1/2 drive each way - was crying on the way back I felt so shit, then had to call in sick today (boss had already texted me to say do not come in if I was still feeling rough - she's a gem) and had tomorrow booked as leave anyway thank god. I was hoping I'd be feeling better by Friday, but it's not sounding promising!

I'm so so sorry so many of you sound like you're having a really rough time of it.

It’s a complete shocker.

If it is covid I had my booster a month ago so grrrr.

On about Day 11 here. Head is full of cotton wool but starting to improve

The night I got earache was the low point.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 15/11/2023 22:32

DH and I have both been down with Covid this week. Sore throat, battery acid dripping from nose, cough, utterly drained, and in my case, my back was killing me. I seem to have shaken it off thankfully 🤞but the joint pain and stiffness was unpleasant.

It's a doozy the cough taking ages to shift OH, DS and one grandchild had steroids for the cough and a three day dose of antibiotics which did improve their symptoms a lot. One grandchild still coughing like a two pack a day smoker. He didn't have the steroids or antibiotics.

DH, DS and I all had that. I tested positive for covid. They didn't. It's horrible. Expect to feel weak and knackered for a week or two afterwards. Please take it very easy with loads of rest to avoid long covid.

We’re the same in my house. Myself and two sons all had these same symptoms including earache, sore throat, cough etc. I’m the only one who tested positive for covid which seems odd. I’m quite a bit better after 10 days but my sons are still coughing loads, one has been over 2 weeks now and one 4 weeks.

Taylorscat · 16/11/2023 08:46

Slept ok but very sweaty. It’s in my ears now as I’m a little deaf and the coughing has started. Felt awful on waking but have had Sudafed and a double espresso and going to make another double in a sec. Off work again.

Taylorscat · 16/11/2023 08:46

I’m ensconced on the sofa under my blanket watching box sets

Yes I slept better last night - throat is feeling less razor like this morning, but the ears, and the cough are nasty.

That's a serious amount of caffeine - you're turbocharged! Hope it helps with your day at work.

Fortunately an on leave today - but got a few bits and bobs to do for the business. Have gone back to bed after sorting DD out for school and plan on staying here for a while.

I forgot the sweat. That was another major symptom. My PJs were as drenched as if I had walked into the sea wearing them. I lost about 5lb overnight. (Put it all back on again!)

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 16/11/2023 15:21

Oh god, yes, the sweats, I'm menopausal as it is ffs.

noclouds · 16/11/2023 15:34

I'm on day 11 and still feeling rough but better than I was

NotReadyForAutumnYet · 16/11/2023 16:08

I've lost my appetite. That never happens! Coming from both ends today. Apparently lots of covid at school and nursery.

krystalweedon · 16/11/2023 16:21

It is covid, I bet. I was at a party on Friday. Now everyone is ill and lots testing positive.

justasking111 · 16/11/2023 17:04

Whatever it is has blasted through all our families which bodes well for Christmas

Grendell · 16/11/2023 17:07

Yes, same here especially the sore throat - I tested positivize for Covid, but not until the fever started. Tests were negative at first.

easyellis · 16/11/2023 19:10

I had to get totally changed twice in the night because my clothes were sodden. I got back into bed after a nightfeed and pulled the duvet up to discover it was also totally sodden and cold. It was actually disgusting! I ended up asleep on a soaking wet mattress lying on a towel and using my dressing gown as a blanket instead of the soaking wet duvet! I've never had anything like this!

As a 28 year old, please tell me the menopausal night sweats aren't like that?! Shock

Darklane · 16/11/2023 20:09

We’ve got it here too, it’s dreadful
DH started & kindly shared it with me. He’s more or less through the worst, just with a bad cough so can’t sleep lying down. So spends each night sitting on the sofa in a sleeping bag. I’m on week two & much worse. The throat is dreadful, like filled with razor blades while also feeling like I’m choking with the swelling & clag which makes me cough till I retch. Finding the only thing that will cut through that is honey & hot lemon, made a teapot full at a time, can’t face eating.
I started by feeling like I just couldn’t get warm for two days. Still cold through the night no matter what, even with three dogs in bed with me! Earache, headache, same as we all seem to have, not felt so ill in years.

It's awful, truly awful isn't it. I've also been mainlining honey and lemon for days now, it really does the help the throat.

Day 15 now!!

Still no appetite, basically, can just about face soup!
No sense of taste or smell at all.
Sooo tired!! Sleeping all night, having a little nap in afternoon (2hrs) then falling asleep in front of tv til bed… and repeat, repeat.
Hearing still wrecked, occasional earache, too sore to touch them.
No energy at all, nothing.

This is surely some strain of Covid? Never had a “cold” like this!

💐 to all fellow sufferers!

Movinghouseatlast · 17/11/2023 10:05

I had this and it was Covid. The symptoms went after 3 weeks of absolute hell, but I am left with complete exhaustion which means I'm in bed half the day. I'm on day 31 today and finally feel a bit less tired.

I think the Covid jabs have worn off now, hence me being very ill with it. I had Covid 18 months ago and apart from the terrible cough it was mild.

Movinghouseatlast · 17/11/2023 10:13

JMAngel1 · 15/11/2023 21:40

I hate to tell you guys but I’m on week 7. Was absolutely awful the first week - bed bound for 3 days but since then I have had no energy, fevers, hot and cold, shivering, the snottiest nose and the worst cough that makes me vomit most mornings. It’s been horrific. I’ve had 2 courses of antibiotics which haven’t done a thing and a chest x ray which luckily showed no abnormalities.
So what the hell is wrong with me? 7 weeks! Aside from the first 3 days, I’ve been struggling through work and kids. It’s been horrible.

Don't struggle through, you need time off to recover. If you have Covid ( and it sounds exactly like what I've got which is Covid) then not resting can lead to long covid.

Had a covid jab 4 weeks ago. I doubt what I have is covid

Edited

It is definitely possible. My husband got covid last year about a month or so after his jab.

Yes. Having the jab hasn't prevented either of us getting covid within a short time span afterwards. DH had the jab early October, and then caught the virus (possibly covid) from me.
