Toying with the idea of getting DD's a throw each for Christmas. They're attic room bedrooms are getting chilly.

Any advice?

I’ve got one from Lakeland, it’s more of a wearable heated poncho blanket. I love it!

Thecatinthehatwalkedintoabar · 13/11/2023 21:34

Got my dd and me ones from argos...I love them, as does dd and they are cheap to run.

Hollip · 13/11/2023 21:35

Amazing - I bought the furry ones from boots when they first reduced to £99. I wfh and use it all day plus in the evening and it’s probably saved me £99 since I bought it a couple of months ago. They are warm without being plugged in too.

We’ve got a velour one side/ fleecy the other side heated throw from Amazon, it’s so lovely and wam. We use it when watching films in the evening. Great for those in between months too, when it’s warm in the day but cold at night and the heating isn’t on yet.

Finteq · 13/11/2023 21:36

I'm thinking of getting one

Are they safe?

Just worried about burns and fires if left on for too long

Thecatinthehatwalkedintoabar · 13/11/2023 21:38

Mine has a timer on..turns off after 1, 3 or 9 hours.

It's a beautiful cosy warmth

Ohmylovejune · 13/11/2023 21:38

Ours turns off after a set time automatically.

They are nice but you are tied to a plug socket and that corner of the throw is heavier. Great for keeping you warm.though when don't really want to heat a whole house

Shannith · 13/11/2023 21:51

Yes. Got it off Amazon about 4 years ago.

Best thing in my house bar non (and I've got some fancy stuff).

In a fire, I'm saving the blanket. Humans and animals can sort themselves out.

It's that good.

Cynderella · 13/11/2023 22:03

I've got one. We used less than half the gas we normally do last winter, and I probably spent £300 achieving that. The heated blanket is very effective, and it only needs to be on an hour to warm you up. It's a cat magnet too.

Oodies, wool layers (clothing) and TADO radiator valves were key buys. The blanket came out again for the winter as soon as the temperature dropped.

Auntieobem · 13/11/2023 22:05

The dog and I have been under mine tonight. Ours is from amazon, think it was around £45 - best buy ever.

bossybloss · 13/11/2023 22:07

I have one and it’s brilliant!

MercurialMargot · 13/11/2023 22:08

We love ours. Get one with a time out function.

Yourebeingtooloud · 13/11/2023 22:10

Yes they’re great. We’ve got Mia & coco ones from Amazon, they’re £38 fairly regularly. Don’t pay full price!

One of ours has just died after 2 years but it has had a lot of use so I feel ok with cost vs number of uses.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/11/2023 22:13

I got one off Amazon. It was reduced from £89 to £38. It is fantastic! Perfect for working from home and watching tv on the sofa in the evening.

anon2134 · 13/11/2023 22:13

I got mine for £34 from Amazon last week so I bought dd one too.

Ds has had one for years and loves it.

Sonolanona · 13/11/2023 22:17

Best buy ever. So I got my Mum one, and my DD1 who'se old georgian flat is very cold.
We all live under them.. plus the cats they accumulate Grin

IMustDoMoreExercise · 13/11/2023 22:19

I've got an electric blanket. It has changed my life. I look forward to getting into bed now. Only have to have it on for 10 mins on high before bed and an hour or so lower after.

I have an over blanket because you can't use an under blanket with a memory foam mattress

ItsNotJustaBunFightItsanAIBUBunfight · 13/11/2023 22:19

Love mine. I have a big furry one and a thinner one. I feel the cold easily whereas DH is always boiling so they are a good solution

Definitely get one with a timer function so they turn of automatically after 1/3 etc hours. And it's good having one with different heat settings

ShoesoftheWorld · 13/11/2023 22:20

I have one that switches off automatically after (quite a short) time. I still don't think I'd want to give one unsupervised to a child younger than perhaps a preteen, in case the mechanism fails. And I'd impress on them the importance of turning it off/unplugging it when not in use. Ds1 is a volunteer firefighter and tutted about me getting mine. Obv they're much safer than the electric blankets of old, though.

Nat6999 · 13/11/2023 22:21

I'm using ds one at the moment, it's lovely to keep me warm as I really feel the cold. My tips, get the biggest one you can & one with nine heat settings.

TheDogsMother · 13/11/2023 22:22

I have a heated throw from Lakeland and I work from home so I can keep warm without putting the heating on in the day.

JamMakingWannaBe · 13/11/2023 22:25

Pretty sure I read that Lidl have them in the middle aisle this week. I'm tempted to get another one. I wrap myself up in it when I'm WFH, and as PP, it's a cat magnet when you are sitting watching TV.

susiedaisy1912 · 13/11/2023 22:25

I got a fleece blanket that is heated. I love it. I bought it from Amazon last winter for about £50

NotStartedChristmasShoppingYet · 13/11/2023 22:28

We just got one. It’s heavenly. I’ve just ordered a 2nd one because DH likes his armchair, I like the sofa & having him stuck to me like glue sharing my blanket is driving me mad!
I think we will get teens one each as something to open for Christmas.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 13/11/2023 22:31

I also have the Amazon one - love it! Used it all last winter while WFH and didn't have the heating on at all during the day.
