At what point of the day do you think there's no point getting up and dressed?

I'm still in my PJs in bed, I've spent the morning reading. I don't feel 100%, I'm not always this lazy.

It feels pointless getting up and dressed now, and a waste of clean and fresh clothes. It feels half the day has gone so I may as well stay in PJs all day.

At what point of the day do you think there's no point getting dressed?

I find it a bit weird to not exercise every day, even if just a decent walk, unless very unwell.

You do know lots of people don’t exercise at all? I am the only person in my immediate family who does. And I only exercise three times a week. And I only shower three times a week. I am from a generation that had weekly baths as children. My dad didn’t even do that. But he lived to 83. However I always get dressed, no matter the time. I am still in my pyjamas but I’m having a shower in the next hour. After which I will get dressed.

Luxell934 · 12/11/2023 12:38

Sunday is usually a stay at home day so I don't bother changing out of my PJs/lounge wear.

FlamingoHels · 12/11/2023 12:39

Never spend all day in PJs. I would have to be seriously unwell to do so. I just feel a bit grim if I don’t wash / change.

FlamingoHels · 12/11/2023 12:40

Oh and I also exercise every day so I need to get changed for that . So even on a “stay at home” day I will still go for a walk, as a minimum

Givejamesbluntachance · 12/11/2023 12:41

At no point would I think I would just not get up that day. I'm in my late forties and this has never happened to me.

There are far too many Puritans and Judgmental dicks around who just well, judge others based on their own military precision in everything.

Do what you want to do, who cares?

Yup. The comments about- I've been out for a 2 hour ramble I could never be in bed til 11/ I'm up at 6am for a run every day & could never can just piss off. You're not holier than thou. You must be SO annoying in RL.

Everyone's different.

OP if you're not 100% laze as long as you like. A day resting is never a waste, I hope you feel better tomorrow.

SiennaMillar · 12/11/2023 12:47

I’ve still got the old band tshirt on I wore to bed last night. Chucked on some trackies, a woolly jumper, wellies and Barbour and just got back in from a big, cold, wet dog walk. No chance I’ll be getting changed today! After reading and cooking it’ll be evening. I will have my big Sunday shower before bed though, clean hair, fresh sheets and fresh jammies!

But our routines don’t get shortened by winter daylight hours, do they? People work and do hobbies in the dark still. The active day is still more post midday than pre.

No my routine gets shorter in winter. We eat earlier and settle down for the night earlier. We never go out after work, as we might in summer. I’m pregnant and have a baby though, so anything after 4pm might as well be the middle of the night, I’m just so exhausted

halloweenn · 12/11/2023 12:52

what do you mean?

it’s okay to wear PJs at home obviously, but you should still be showering, changing your underwear, brushing your teeth, washing your face, putting deodorant on and generally being hygienic

if after your usual morning routine, you just want to put cosy clothes on - that’s completely normal. But it’s not on to skip the step of hygiene if that’s what you’re suggesting

EversoDisorganised · 12/11/2023 12:52

Well, I don’t stay in PJs all day unless I’m ill, but if I’m not going out often stay in them till lunchtime or so at the weekend. If it got past about 4pm and I wasn’t going out anywhere (unusual for me) I might consider not bothering. But I worry after about midday that someone will come to the door and catch me in PJs, or I will need to go out to the car for something, or go into the back garden when the neighbours are out in theirs and I’d feel embarrassed, silly really as I happily go out the back in them first thing eg to hang washing out.

Anoisagusaris · 12/11/2023 12:54

You can still go for a 2hr ramble at 12pm, or even even later. Just because someone isn’t up and dressed by 11am doesn’t mean the day is wasted.

GuitarGeorgina · 12/11/2023 12:56

Can’t relate to this at all as I’ve never had the same feeling. I guess a lifetime of dogs that need walking means it has never crossed my mind.

Westfacing · 12/11/2023 12:58

To be honest, it's not something I'd do unless ill.

I'm an early bird so get up and dressed - but I could well be in my nightie by 19.00 in the winter!

For us early birds lolling around in nightwear after say 10.00 is the slippery slope.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 12/11/2023 13:03

Almost. 12 midday would be half the day.

By the clock maybe.

But I'd think in waking hours. So say 8am to 11pm. Half way would be 3.30pm

CeriB82 · 12/11/2023 13:06

I’ve never stayed in my pj all day.

Marshmallowtoastie · 12/11/2023 13:06

Honestly shocked to hear people are worried about someone coming to the door and they’re in their pjs
It’s never crossed my mind
no one is turning up here unexpected except delivery drivers and I can’t imagine they give me a single thought. and even if they did why on earth would you care.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 12/11/2023 13:06

namechange1986 · 12/11/2023 11:38

I will never understand why there's such judgement on here for people who stay in pjs. Baffling why people think they are superior because they change their clothes.

'Ohhh I would feel like a disease ridden gremlin if I ever contemplated staying in pjs after 5am. Heaven forbid!!'

'No I have a 45 mile hike done before sunrise and then it's time for my swim across the channel'

Just fuck off with your faux horror and superiority complex.

Haha yes!

Precious posters trumpeting about 2 hour rambles and morning weigh lifting. Well jolly good for you.

Read the room - OP sounds a bit down and looking for moral support, not to hear your tales of being Perfect Pamela. Go have a kale smoothie and let us chat to her about how completely normal it is to rest in pjs when you're having a down day.

Ps busyness is often a distraction technique to avoid facing up to trauma or difficult feelings. Just saying.

Ilovelurchers · 12/11/2023 13:07

Those of you that feel a compulsion to wear a clean set of clothes every day regardless of what you are doing and where you are going (if anywhere), isn't that a bit bad for the environment? Unless it's stuff you wear next to certain parts of your skin (underwear etc), or unless you have done strenuous exercise, your clothes are unlikely to smell of sweat etc... Washing things regardless of whether they need it is a bit self indulgent when the planet is in crisis ....

If OP is in the house by herself, or in the company of people who love her and don't object if she smells very faintly of sweat (which she may well not depending when the PJs were clean on, her time of life etc) it's actually a very ethical and environmentally sound choice for her not to put on new clothes for the sake of it.

OP, I salute you!

(And yes I am being slightly facetious but only slightly - excessive cleanliness costs the environment, and maybe we are dirty hippies in my household, but stuff is only washed here when it smells or is visibly dirty, or unclean in some other way perceptible by one of the human senses! Not just so we can "feel clean", if that feeling is just in our heads!)

AuntieMarys · 12/11/2023 13:07

I would feel skanky. 😄
I like to be up and showered by 9am at the very latest and make the most of the day.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/11/2023 13:07

Never! I can't lounge in my PJ's!

CavalierApproach · 12/11/2023 13:14

PeaceBreaksOut · 12/11/2023 11:15

9pm, but I'm a nightowl. If for some reason I'd been in bed until 9 I'd still throw some clothes on, probably go out and catch my daily Pokémon and grab a pint of milk from the shop.

I would also do this. Maybe we should be Pokémon friends Grin

Me too. I enjoy a cup of tea in bed, but then I need to be up, and in a bra.

Riverlee · 12/11/2023 13:16

I’d always get washed and dressed, even if it’s comfy, baggy joggers and T-shirt.

Pipistrellus · 12/11/2023 11:32

Not if you wake up at 10am and plan to go back to bed at midnight it's not.

This kind of discourse is what makes online discussion so unpleasant. Why are people who get dressed 'judgmental dicks' rather than just people who like to get dressed? It's like being back at school.
