At what point of the day do you think there's no point getting up and dressed?

I'm still in my PJs in bed, I've spent the morning reading. I don't feel 100%, I'm not always this lazy.

It feels pointless getting up and dressed now, and a waste of clean and fresh clothes. It feels half the day has gone so I may as well stay in PJs all day.

At what point of the day do you think there's no point getting dressed?

I would say after 6pm lmaooo. This is because I have late nights. An 11am start is fairly early for me

You are including the night with the day there. Sunset is about 16:30 here so you are quite limited after that in what you can do. We always get out earlier in the winter because of the short hours of daylight, at the playground at 9 today.

But our routines don’t get shortened by winter daylight hours, do they? People work and do hobbies in the dark still. The active day is still more post midday than pre.

NoraLuka · 12/11/2023 11:56

Never, I don’t feel right if I don’t get up and dressed by about 9ish.

The week between Christmas and New Year doesn’t count though 😁

Haven't seen one post on here judging the OP, just giving their own opinion, as was asked for.

You’ve seriously missed subtext then.

GreigeO · 12/11/2023 11:57

8pm? I’m a night owl and it wouldn’t be unheard of for me to wake up at 4pm during the holidays.

HerMammy · 12/11/2023 11:57

Do the people who reply Have just got in from a 2hr ramble with family. Couldn't imagine being in PJs all day not consider that this thread isn't aimed at them?
Fuckin hell must be wearing to be so virtuous

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 12/11/2023 11:59

I spent all morning reading and decided to get a shower 15 kins ago, but just because I didn't wanna be in pjs when the tesco delivery man comes Grin if it wasn't for him I would rot all day then get my hair washing shower before bed tonight

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 12/11/2023 12:01

I’m in my oodie, but I’m going out at 1 so will get changed. If you have no intention of getting up and going out, don’t bother getting changed.

LittleGreenDragons · 12/11/2023 12:03

3pm is my cutoff but I do still brush my hair and teeth even if I don't get dressed, but that's only if I feel a bit bleugh.

ilikemethewayiam · 12/11/2023 12:05

Live your life YOUR way OP. It doesn’t matter what time anyone else gets up or if they get dressed. You are entitled to do as you please in your own home. I’m a night owl, always have been no matter much I’ve tried to change my sleep patterns. Unless I have to get up for an appointment, I love nothing more than waking up to a nice cup of tea, made in my one-cup tea maker, and stay in bed reading crap on my iPad until I’m ready to get up. And yes that can be 11 - 11:30 some days! I’m retired, I’ve earned it.

EarringsandLipstick · 12/11/2023 12:05

I'm not, as my post explained.

I'm specifying the active part of the day as in the part where you can do things, inside or outside, like go for coffee, go shopping, meet friends or do things around the house.

The outdoor parts can be done easily up to 6 (you may need daylight for the park or playground, you don't need it for lots of other activities outside the house).

The 'half the day' is not true at midday as there's many hours to do many varied things, far more than half the day.

TheSilverThorn · 12/11/2023 12:07

The only time I have ever done this is if I am ill. I was seriously unwell for a couple of years so was housebound and disabled which was truly awful. I am a great believer is rest when unwell even if just a bit off colour so crack on.

JaninaDuszejko · 12/11/2023 12:08

I've never not got dressed, even when poorly I get up and have a shower and get dressed then lie on the sofa.

EarringsandLipstick · 12/11/2023 12:09

I'm up at 6am every day as I just can't lie long in bed and have early risers. In bed by 8pm, often asleep just before 9pm. If I was getting up at midday it doesn't allow much time to do very much in daylight hours 🤷🏻 we are all different though.
🙄

Again, not reading my post ...

As it happens I'm up at 510 Mon - Fri, wish I could go to bed as early as you but can't due to busy teens.

Weekends are 630 Sat for a day of matches & variable Sunday.

The point was about 'half the day being over'. It's not 'half over' at 11:24. You can do loads outdoors (as in, leaving the house so clothes required) by 6 pm.

Additionally, the day doesn't have to equate to leaving the house - you could have friends around for coffee or dinner, for example.

Still plenty of time for all those options, and the day isn't 'half over, regardless of what time it starts for individuals.

EarringsandLipstick · 12/11/2023 12:09

Exactly!

Put on yesterday's clothes 😂 . A couple more hours in them won't make a difference.

Jewelspun · 12/11/2023 12:12

I have to get up and go out every day as we have dogs. I would have to be completely incapacitated not to get up and be washed and dressed every day.

Itsnotchristmasyet · 12/11/2023 12:13

Mine wouldn’t be a time thing, it would be just how I felt that day.

I don’t really have PJs.
When I wake up in the morning I slip on my sweats and hoodie, which are day clothes but I use them as sort of PJs.
I always put my dressing gown over the top.

If someone knocks on the door then it looks like I’m dressed but it still feels to me like I’m in PJs.

I rarely have a shower Sunday morning as I have a long shower/bath in the evening and do all my prep (painting nails, deep moisturising, tan etc).

If I was feeling poorly then I wouldn’t bother and would just have a shower tomorrow morning.

Where does it say that the OP only wants people who wear night clothes all day to answer?

Personally I'm in the never don't get dressed camp but I couldn't care less what anyone else does. If you think getting dressed= virtuous your standards must be low or the chip on your shoulder must be weighing you down 😁

aintnospringchicken · 12/11/2023 12:19

Never. Unless I'm really ill and can't physically get out of bed I always get showered and dressed at some point even if it's midday and I've been pottering around doing housework in my jammies.A couple of years ago I spent a few nights in hospital and I always got dressed after morning ward rounds.

Prinnny · 12/11/2023 12:19

Love a jarma day. We’re having one ourselves after a late night with DD competing in a sporting event over the last two days.

I’ll be cooking a Sunday roast, having a bath, getting changed into our new matching winter jarmas, opening the wine and watching some Christmas movies! Bliss.

I completely agree!

You are an adult and can do whatever you like!

I remember when my DD was young saying something like that when she grows up she’s going to stay in bed and eat sweets and watch films all day.
And it really made me think.

I used to do stuff every day and make the most of it and almost martyr myself by doing things like cleaning, shopping or just doing something.

Now I make a real effort to do nothing.
I work hard and don’t stop during the week and so at least once a month on a sunday I’ll do the bare minimum and watch crap TV or play PlayStation games in my comfy clothes.

Tweezeme1 · 12/11/2023 12:24

12:20pm still in my dressing gown in bed with a coffee. No intention of getting out of dressing gown today and I’m not ill.
Busy day yesterday, cooked for today, so today I rest and that involves scrolling and Netflix in bed. Rest of week I’m at work so I need a day to recharge the batteries

Beginningless · 12/11/2023 12:29

Love a jammie day. Don’t get the chance to do it very often but it feels like a lovely indulgence to me. I’m not ill but still in jammies now relaxing with oldest on a rare day where DH has taken youngest out, but have to get dressed soon as something on this afternoon.

Its always fascinating to me to read responses on these kinds of threads, sometimes it feels like MN has this kind of collective OCD like issue about cleanliness, it doesn’t feel like it represents RL to me but maybe many people are quietly so worried about being ‘unclean’ and I didn’t know.

Marshmallowtoastie · 12/11/2023 12:32

I think it’s really old fashioned to worry about what time you should get dressed for the day, or just the idea of getting dressed anyway really.
i always brush my teeth and wash my face, but I’m showered the night before, pjs are clean on, my bed is clean. What difference does it make if I change from one set of clothing to another, just to continue sitting on the sofa or working at my desk. If I don’t need to go out until 3, I’m not getting dressed until 2.30. If I don’t need to go out until 7 then I’ll get dressed at 6.30.
if I go out for an hour or two or just to walk the dog, when I come home I’ll probably put my pjs back on. Who cares, just be comfortable in your own house. Certainly 11am is too early to be worrying about ‘wasting half the day’ in your pjs.
