Things people do that make you cringe?

People posting photos of their holiday on social media with a caption like “this is how my Monday morning is looking”. Like calm down Joanne, you’ll be back in the office by next Monday.

Middle management telling me they pay my wages.

People thinking that are different and edgy because they wear Dr Martens (I do still love the boots though)

OP posts:
MaisyAndTallulah · 11/11/2023 03:39

How do you know what someone is thinking by what shows they are wearing? I think your discomfort here says a lot about you rather.than them.

And the Monday morning thing, why does it bother you that someone is sharing rheor ni e break?

There are things that make me cringe and one of them is jealous people like you mocking people going about their own business.

They're not inflicting anything on you, unlike the air piano playing collegue etc. They're just going about their lives. You should try it.

Catsmere · 11/11/2023 03:48

Loud belching. My mother does it now. I presume it's age-related, but eww.

AtomicPumpkin · 11/11/2023 04:57

People using 'pop' as an all-purpose verb, e.g. pop to the shop, pop dinner in the oven. There's always a better word available. It's particularly irritating when used by healthcare professionals (pop yourself on the seat and pop your top off). Ugh. Save it for balloons.

Dontcallmescarface · 11/11/2023 05:10

Grown adults calling each other "baby"
Dogs licking people's faces
People who judge others by what clothes/shoes they wear.

Women who in conversation refer to their husband as hubby rather than his name or just as my husband. Makes my teeth grind.

People who correct other people’s spelling/grammar/pronunciation and trying to suggest they are being helpful.

Puccini1900 · 11/11/2023 05:31

If my DH calls me something soppy ('sweetie' 🤮)

When people pronounce the letter 'H' with a h... It's 'aech', not 'haech' gahhhh

cosypompoms · 11/11/2023 05:43

Well I never knew I was being judged for having the child in the trolley!

Puccini1900 · 11/11/2023 05:47

When someone is crap at their job.

It's more cringey if they blame their inadequacies on the situation/tools etc.

It's even more cringey if they then conspiratorially gossip about the perceived bad situation/tools, as if their feelings are shared

I love using the word 'pop'!

...though, come to think of it, I think I use it ironically...

iloveeverykindofcat · 11/11/2023 06:10

People who say things like "I hate humans". Okay, go live in the woods and see how far you get without the interdependent social structures that have literally enabled your survival and that of your ancestors I guess.

Nannyfannybanny · 11/11/2023 06:12

Adult women talking about the "ick", obviously unaware of the actual meaning. Saying hoovering instead of vacuuming. Yes, the shopping trolley stand up, especially when there is a seat! Have a look online, biology slides, they will make you feel sick. The average shoe carries 500k pathogens, urine and faeces from dogs cats foxes Badgers rats mice birds, plus a hell of a lot of human pathogens. A friend who wears really short mini skirt at pushing 60. Think faded denim cute on a 5 year old. Her work colleagues have gently suggested it might not "suit", so she wears thick black leggings underneath.

Nannyfannybanny · 11/11/2023 06:12

Oh yes, not washing hands after toilet. In Sainsbury's the other day....it was the staff, grim!!

If your standing a child in the trolley then yes you're judged.
It's for food not feet.

My Mum was from Greenock, she said Jaiy too.

I’m English living in Scotland not in Glasgow or Greenock. All Scots I’ve met say Jaiy. I have a “jaiy” in my surname and at first I hadn’t got the faintest idea what they were talking about.

Gender reveals

YellowRibbon710 · 10/11/2023 21:16

Also, this is massively unreasonable of me but when grown men on the train or tube get a water bottle out of their backpack and start sipping. Gives me the ick.

I don't know why. I just find it really unmanly. I KNOW it is unreasonable.

How do you sustain relationships if you're turned off by men drinking?

SpongenotSpiker · 11/11/2023 06:47

My daughter is Autistic and refuses to walk around on the rare times she has to go to the supermarket so she has to sit inside the trolley to as he's to old to sit in the baby seat of course. Never occurred to me about her shoes as all products put into trolleys are in packaging! I'll wrap her around my shoulders next time like a scarf in case I annoy anyone by putting her inside it next time! 🙄

This! It drives me mad. Also when people use "I" or "me" incorrectly.

Floralie222 · 11/11/2023 07:00

People posting pictures of their partner with the caption "this one" or "boy did good" 🤮

pictoosh · 11/11/2023 07:09

People taking umbrage or offence at posts on threads like this and jumping in to argue. It's a pet peeves thread...you don't get to police them. It doesn't impact on you. Stop being so egotistical and just let people dislike things.

DropsofVenus · 11/11/2023 07:10

Also, when one of the Dads in the school playground refers to his 18 month old repeatedly as ‘young lady’.

He queues up outside the eldest DCs classroom and talks very loudly saying things like, ‘less of that young lady’, ‘put that back young lady’ when the child is doing perfectly normal things such as picking up a stone and looking at it.

It is just so cringeworthy. The wife stands there smiling in to thin air saying nothing.

Grown ups who drink squash?? I love squash

I know. This comes up every time and caused consternation!

NashvilleQueen · 11/11/2023 07:15

Men who don't wear shirts to go to shops!walk along streets when it's sunny

'Happy places'

Married couples who have a private conversation on public social media (eg facebook).

The word 'butty'

pictoosh · 11/11/2023 07:16

Selfies filtered to the nth degree to the point they look like a Disney character.
Who do they think they're kidding? We know what you look like.
Just shows how much pressure there is to look a certain way - people will actually pretend that they do, while other thickos encourage and compliment it.
"Gorgeous hun."
Stop it.

Toptotoe · 11/11/2023 07:18

People who say ‘ I was stood… ‘ or I was sat instead of saying ‘ I was standing/I was sitting’.

People who hold their fork like a spoon to eat with.

People who eat with their mouth open or talk when eating.

People who say ‘basically’ / ‘ to be honest with you’ /like and ‘somewhat’

You can probably guess I’m irritated a lot if the time 😏
