What food do you hate?

Inspired by another thread.

Could be anything.

I ant actually think of many foods that I dislike, but I am quite particular about how things are cooked.

The main things I don't like are meat or seafood that I'm not used to. I'm not veggie and love meat and fish but certain things like duck, squid, venison I couldn't eat.

Tinned, or 'sold in slices' corned beef. It was a revelation to me, after moving to Ireland, that real corned beef (ie, a beef joint that's been cured in spices, although there's also 'spiced beef' which is different) is bloody marvellous.

Jellied eels.

Uncooked egg white, though I love a runny yolk!

Coleslaw (love carrots, cabbage, onions etc., just not when made into coleslaw, which always looks and tastes as though someone's eaten it already).

So you commented because?! 😂

It’s dull and repetitive and I’m irritated with myself for reading it.
But I can’t be alone in finding long lists of food dislikes rather less than riveting. (It’s always the same stuff too. Fish. Offal. Fat. etc etc)

The solipsistic attitude that strangers on the internet might find your foibles as fascinating as you do is just baffling.

MaloneMeadow · 10/11/2023 18:07

Aubergine & courgette
Avocado
Raw tomatoes
Olives
Anything pickled
Soft fruits (peaches, plums, most berries)
All seafood except for cod & haddock
Pork
Aniseed
Fennel
Cumin
Mint in savoury dishes 🤮

Tarragon- only herb I hate, so therefore also hate tartar sauce
Offal
Salad cream and mayonnaise
Milk and milky things like custard's, rice pudding, bread and butter pudding etc
Almond flavours is Bakewell tarts, Altho I like almonds
Coconut
Food that's meant to be hot, served lukewarm or cold
Cooked carrots but I like raw carrots
Can only tolerate mushrooms in small doses
Hate mushroom soup

Will eat everything else although even if I'm not keen, I can generally manage to eat it to be polite with the exception of offal

No tarragon in Tartare Sauce and I have made it countless times with lots of different recipes. If you do have a recipe I would love of you share please. (Sorry not the point of thread).

I think some pork tastes like piss. I can't explain it but it's horrible. It's not always present but I can detect it in things like char sui pork and siu mais (Chinese pork balls). I also don't like chilli other than sweet chilli.

Greengagesummer65 · 10/11/2023 18:24

Cheese, it stinks of socks that haven’t been washed for a year. Also hate the texture, like soap, waxy or melting. Can just about tolerate a bit of overcooked Halloumi if sliced very thinly but everything else makes me gag. I do not get people’s love for it at all 🤷‍♀️

Georgyporky · 10/11/2023 18:25

There's not much that I've tried that I actively dislike, but whelks are unpleasant.
I eat offal, including brains, hearts, etc.
Always willing to try something new; recently had alpaca, & guinea pig - both lovely.
Never tried insects or grubs; think I could only eat them if cooked, but there again I love oysters.

WingingIt101 · 10/11/2023 17:11

Mushrooms. Hate them. And most fish.

Same!

SweetBirdsong · 10/11/2023 18:26

I dislike most fruit and most salad and most things low fat and healthy sadly. Sad

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/11/2023 18:30

The only thing I WILL NOT eat is tinned baked beans. I'm really quite phobic about them. It takes a lot just to heat them up for the children, who love them the mentalists

Dartmoorcheffy · 10/11/2023 18:31

Jellied eels. I will eat anything else.

Deadringer · 10/11/2023 18:34

I dislike savory and sweet flavours together, so wouldn't eat bbq or sweet chilli sauce, and i hated that trend of fruit coulis with main courses of a few years ago. And I would rather die than eat an oyster, salty sea snot, yuck.

I hate aniseed flavour.

I also have such a strong hatred of truffle oil that I can't even bear the smell-it makes me feel ill.

Can do without mushrooms and don't like raw ginger since I tried to eat it to combat morning sickness. It did not work but left me hating it.

I also thoroughly dislike aniseed and truffle flavours.

I like mushrooms and ginger.

Morrigandeity · 10/11/2023 18:42

Ice-cream, irrationally, it tastes of frost, not that I've ever eaten frost.
I can't bear the smell or taste of tea, milk and cereal. I never buy cereal.
Neither do I like ginger, swede/turnip or rhubarb or anything too sweet, dark chocolate features in this house.
Honey
Baked beans swimming in tomato sauce is an abomination.

zelda10 · 10/11/2023 18:44

Sweetcorn IN things. Happy with corn on the cob but don’t mix it with anything, it somehow evilfies it. Especially pizza 🤮

Also prawns. Insects of the sea. Not food.

CattingAbout · 10/11/2023 18:45

Cheese

I like mozzarella on pizza but that's literally it for me cheese-wise

Oh god yes this too. I can’t eat those store made Christmas sandwiches because they’re full of bloody jam. In what other reality would you have a chicken and jam or bacon and jam sandwich? Ludicrous.

OldTinHat · 10/11/2023 18:47

Beef. Liver. Creme caramel, panacotta.

🤮

Jewelspun · 10/11/2023 18:49

I'm a vegetarian but I hate cucumber, beetroot, melon, grapes, grapefruit, certain types of lettuce, avocado and detest raisins.

MonsteraMama · 10/11/2023 18:50

I'm a very un-fussy eater and love most foods and will tolerate basically everything else. I've eaten some very odd things while traveling too.

Only things I just can't eat are passion fruit. The texture just gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Therealjudgejudy · 10/11/2023 18:52

Mushrooms. Sultanas. Yuck

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 10/11/2023 18:57

Cheesecake! 🤢

tokesqueen · 10/11/2023 18:59

Seafood in general.
Except tinned tuna.

Lemonbaubles · 10/11/2023 19:00

Bread sauce, even the sight of it makes me queasy, probably because it looks and smells like vomit

GonnaNeedABiggerBag · 10/11/2023 19:06

Apples - cooked or raw
Aubergines - too slimey
