We've just got in from being away for half term, and DM has brought us a food parcel...

What would you put in a food parcel for 2 adults and 2 teens to tide them over til tomorrow? DM has always had a disordered relationship with food, but this is one of her "best" efforts! I appreciate the gesture - which she insisted upon - and I have enough experience of her "meals" * to have got milk, bread, ham and a few bits in on the way home. To which we can add her food parcel of:

1 bottle wine
6 pack individual Mr Kipling type apple pies
2 bags of marshmallows
1 box Christmas chocolate biscuits

Apparently we'll all be very tired (we are, very early get up for flight) and need the sugar. She genuinely thinks that this is the basis for a good, light evening meal. (And yes, she's type 2 diabetic!).

The wine would be appreciated the rest not so much!

PuttingDownRoots · 05/11/2023 15:49

That's a smack not a meal (motvakk of it obviously!)

TomatoSandwiches · 05/11/2023 15:49

Well.... I suppose she could have not bothered at all?
I hope her disordered attempts are seen as a affectionate personality quirk instead of a flaw.

Aww at least the thought was there even if it’s a bit impractical.

Dacadactyl · 05/11/2023 15:50

Lol bless her efforts!

I mean, I'd put in milk, bread, butter, crisps for kids lunches and some sliced meat if it was me. Also a fresh pizza and garlic bread and a side salad for dinner tonight. Potentially some dinner for tomorrow if your working hours won't allow you to nip out for something tomorrow.

Sneery ungrateful daughter alert

BitofaStramash · 05/11/2023 15:55

That's really nice of her.

beachcitygirl · 05/11/2023 15:57

She's being lovely. It's the thought that counts. You sound sneers and difficult frankly.

pickledandpuzzled · 05/11/2023 15:57

Perhaps she sees it as welcome home bag rather than anything intrinsically practical.

Sparklfairy · 05/11/2023 15:58

She was probably really anxious putting that together if she has a disordered relationship with food.

Dacadactyl · 05/11/2023 15:58

Presumably all these ones having a go at you OP think that roast apple pie and sautéed marshmallows are the basis of a good meal

Orchidgarden · 05/11/2023 15:58

It was a kind thought, even if you don't appreciate the contents.

Manadou · 05/11/2023 16:00

20 fags would have been nice.

DaphneMoo · 05/11/2023 16:00

I would love someone to do that for me, yes milk would be good but it's a nice gesture.

Perhaps she knew you’d buy milk, ham, bread etc en route home, so decided to buy “treat” stuff like wine and cake to supplement it.

Reddishraddish · 05/11/2023 16:03

wow. she sounds lovely. I would hugely appreciate that

LittleMooli · 05/11/2023 16:03

I think that's sweet of her. And you already know it's not going to be enough so can buy your own food accordingly

No but we appreciate the sentiment and don't moan when someone's made an effort for us

Well I'd have been annoyed if my mum said "I'm getting you some bits so you don't have to shop" and then got given a load of chocolates/no proper food.

Bigfamilyproblems · 05/11/2023 16:06

She sounds lovely she’s made an effort . Be grateful or arrange your own shopping !

viques · 05/11/2023 16:09

It’s bonfire night, toasted marshmallows and warm apple pie with a glass of mulled wine for the adults sounds pretty good to me. I would hide the chocolate biscuits in a secret place known only to me for later in the week.

Even if you knew everytime it wouldn't ever be what you "needed" so could sort yourself out?

Mari9999 · 05/11/2023 16:09

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads
Not sure about the marshmallows, but apart from that everything else may fit in as snacks. Most people wouldn't have thought to drop off anything.

DontListenToWhatYouveConsumed · 05/11/2023 16:11

I'd enjoy that without the wine please.
Is she taking orders?
