Live from Iceland had a camera on the area as it blew yet again, his timing is impeccable. Shawn Willsley is still in Iceland too so should be able to give excellent insight into today’s eruption

Blue Lagoon evacuated once again

@Puffinshop Can you tell us what they’re doing on the webcam at the moment? They look like they’re hosing down the volcano 🌋

@DarcyProudman the berm closest to the power plant has been overtopped by a small(ish) amount of lava. The perched lava pool breached and sent lava towards the plant a day or so ago.

Workers are building a secondary berm between it and the power plant and also have been spraying water on the lava to slow/cool the lava down and hopefully stop it.

Activity in the main crater is slowing so hopefully they will control it for now but god knows how they will be able to protect the power plant going forwards

I marvel daily at those workers! Such a tough job, I hope they can slow down the lava flow enough to get the second berm built.

It seems like the most worrying time will be in the early phase of the next eruption episode. For now the lava is likely to be controlled enough to prevent significant damage to infrastructure.

But next time all bets are off. Inflation has begun again. The current flows go right up to the berms surrounding the town and power plant. There isn't a lot more space that can be filled now.

It looks like things are gearing up again. The met office has issued another update today, they think we might be days away from another eruption / intrusion.

Eruption has just started
