I’ve messed up

I have used natural family planning as contraception for 3/4 years and it works well for me. I had unprotected sex last night. I thought I was in the clear but I have been so busy that more time has passed since my period than I thought. I’m right in the fertile window.

I have been frantically searching for solutions, the sexual health clinics are 25 and under. I’m 27. I don’t have a GP right now, that’s a whole other story. I don’t know what to do. I’m severely depressed right now which is making it harder to think straight. I am ND and for lots of reasons I don’t want a child. I had an abortion years ago and I can’t go through that again. I just need a handhold while I figure out what I can do. I have about 50 hours left to get my hands on the emergency contraceptive pill.

You can get it from your local pharmacy (at a cost) or order online.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 02/11/2023 16:58

I thought you just walked into a pharmacy, asked to speak to the pharmacist privately and then asked for the MAP?

mummybear945 · 02/11/2023 16:59

Try boots online or superdrug online you might be able to get help there. They have online doctors might help.

Betteroutdoors · 02/11/2023 17:00

Superdrug online are great if you can't get to a local pharmacy.

AKAanothername · 02/11/2023 17:01

Boots online, from what I can make out it will cost between £10 and £50 depending on which pill you need.

I forgot the literal most important detail from my OP because I’m all over the place I’m sorry!

I can’t afford it, I work term time and I am paid weekly. So I haven’t worked this week and I won’t be paid again until the end of next week. But all of the free places are out of my age bracket.

Get your partner to pay for it,

In future don't be silly, use proper birth control if you do not want a child.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 02/11/2023 17:05

Can’t you go to a walk in centre after work?

You need to borrow the money from somebody.

It's £30. Less than the cost of raising a child.

Ahh that's a bummer.

OP ring your local sexual health clinic, they will help.

Will they make allowances age wise?

Always one. I was on ‘proper birth control’ for 8 years and I had awful side effects. This method works for me without having to put hormones in my body. I lost track of the actual days because I have been over worked, barely slept which has burnt me out and made life pretty unbearable as all my ASD triggers have been amplified. I’ve just been trying to get through the day without hurting myself but thanks for your judgement

Yeah just ring around.

BananaHamster · 02/11/2023 17:12

Condoms don't cause side affects.

Stressfordays · 02/11/2023 17:13

Google SH24. I've had the MAP sent for free from them and I'm over 25.

Gaslit3 · 02/11/2023 17:16

Would a copper coil be an option if you don't want hormones? They can do an emergency one. MAP can be ineffective if you've already ovulated, and is a big dose of hormones

Ghostfacephonecall · 02/11/2023 17:25

SH24 I just checked out but it doesn’t issue within my area.

I will call around the emergency clinics tomorrow and see if any of them can still help!

OP posts:
CocoPlum · 02/11/2023 17:35

I had a copper coil fitted at the local sexual health clinic (NHS) after I was advised that the MAP I'd been prescribed at Boots wasn't recommended for me.

When I've had the MAP, I've been taken to the side room to answer questions and then am prescribed it for free. I think you pay for it if you just want to buy it no questions asked.

GrazingSheep · 02/11/2023 17:35

Hopefully you have family or friends who can lend you the money.

Stomacharmeleon · 02/11/2023 17:37

@Ghostfacephonecall hope you have managed to rest as it's been half term.

Mrsttcno1 · 02/11/2023 17:42

OP if I was you I would ring round local sexual health clinics, some pharmacies also provide it for free as long so worth checking that, and any walk in centres near you if there is one. If possible though I would honestly consider asking your partner to pay for it if you can’t afford to yourself and go and buy it from somewhere right now tonight, as it’s most effective the sooner it’s taken.

jolies1 · 02/11/2023 17:43

It’s free if you go to a pharmacy and have a consultation you only have to pay for it if you order it online

Not to state the obvious but condoms? If you “really don’t want a child” then why on earth are you using such a risky method of contraception?
