I love weather.

It’s dark, gloomy and raining heavily.

But it’s missing some oomph!

We’ve had weather warnings. I need some drama.

Fancy having a tree land on your car?

Have you even seen tonight's News?

What a tone-deaf post.

South east coast here. Was very windy last night some damage to trees and fences etc but jot as bad as i thought it was going to be basing it on being stranded as a teenager during the 1987 hurricane.

These were taken this afternoon and shared on fb (not by me). Major incident declared in the area.

Here in NI, people in Downpatrick, Portadown and Newry (to name but a few) have had their homes and livelihoods destroyed. Who wants drama like that?

Not far from you myself and this post sickened me.

Grow up. People have had their houses destroyed, some have died.

Drama?? FFS!

We were forecast 40-50 mph winds over night and this afternoon, it was very wet and quite windy overnight but I don't think as strong winds as predicted (so far) but I'm relieved. I've not seen any footage elsewhere but reports on the radio sounded like it was pretty devastating in some areas, so I'm grateful that for us, we got off lightly.

notimagain · 02/11/2023 22:19

As someone mentioned upthread it tracked a bit further south than initially forecast.

Hence the Channel Islands got wacked, followed by a big chunk of north western France.

Just to give some idea of the scale of what then happened in that part of the world there was a gust of over 200 km/h reported last night on one of the headlands in Brittany.

Breakfast time this morning it was reckoned over a million French consumers were without electricity, also without mobile phone signal. Most of the mobile network is back but possibly still over half a million households are still without electricity tonight.

In at least one department (Finisterre) for a lot of the day there was a complete ban on any driving by the public to allow emergency services to function, rail service very disrupted but hopefully back to normal tomorrow.

Despite all that only two fatalities being linked to the storm so far, a lorry driver killed by a falling tree in north east France and somebody felled by a gust of wind (I think in Brest).

Basically the storm certainly warranted the warnings, but a small shift in track spared most of the UK.

Are you for real? Out town was seriously flooded.

Mindovermatter247 · 02/11/2023 22:38

I’m pissed, dd has 2 weeks half term so we purposely chose this week because most schools down south were half term last week, we decided to take her to Portsmouth shopping. But because of the supposed storm all schools in Portsmouth were closed and so people went shopping instead…
i live further along the coast and wind is par for the course this time of year… this storm is not living up to it’s warning… at least where I live..

RufustheFactualReindeer · 02/11/2023 22:45

Near portsmouth on the south coast so it was just a very windy day

but I would obviously rather that than the dreadful conditions some people have suffered today and over the last few weeks

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/11/2023 23:27

How bloody insensitive and ignorant of you
Go and create your own drama

You’re just as bad as the OP. Just because it hasn’t directly hit you doesn’t mean many, many more have lost a lot. Have some sympathy for others.

Presumably you're not in state school if you've got a 2 week half term?

crumblingschools · 04/11/2023 00:00

@CandyLeBonBon some state schools have 2 week half term. They take the week from summer holiday

Lateliein · 04/11/2023 03:17

I'll think of your daughter not being able to shop as I remove a bough from my car

HelpMeGetThrough · 04/11/2023 04:03

I think we have Ciarans final fart here, it draughty outside again.
