Where is the STORM!!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/11/2023 12:37

I love weather.

It’s dark, gloomy and raining heavily.

But it’s missing some oomph!

We’ve had weather warnings. I need some drama.

OP posts:

I'm sure this was meant tongue in cheek @TheLightSideOfTheMoon but spare a thought for everyone who is being affected and those who were utterly slammed by Babet.

Your first post is a bit insensitive to be honest.

Pharos · 02/11/2023 13:04

I’m sure people on the Isle of Portland would prefer to have had boring weather than be cut off from the mainland as the only road on and off has been closed due to flooding since this morning. 🙄

flufferknutter · 02/11/2023 12:40

There is no storm. It's the usual weather related hysteria 🙄 everything is exaggerated now.

Oh yeah?

At 3am here it was fucking mental.

qwertyuiopasdfgh · 02/11/2023 13:08

boring is good. excitement is overrated.

Tongue in cheek, really? I'm pretty sure people affected by the devastation last night won't be looking to get cheap laughs from a MN thread today.

What an arsehole the OP is 🙄

I've lived 20 years in rural Yorkshire and 20 years in Jersey. I've seen a lot of 'big' weather and I have never in 40 years been as frightened as I was between 4 and 7am this morning.

At 9 weeks pregnant I spent the whole night wide awake, shaking and primed to get out if we had to, which thankfully we didn't, but many in our community did.

Only later in the morning did it become clear that our building roof has in fact taken severe damage, rain water is leaking into adjacent apartments and we may have to move out at any time.

But yes @flufferknutter, it was exaggerated. Sure.

Is this enough drama for you?

Glad our school made the decision to close, I wouldn't be able to get home due to flooding now. Also we are due more rain this afternoon.

Storm Ciarán causes flooding and school closures in the East of England - BBC News

Dozens of schools close for the day as strong winds and rain cause travel disruption.

Caswallonthefox · 02/11/2023 13:13

It's been raining where I am since the early hours of the morning. No wind to speak of. In fact babet was worse, I discovered my roof leaked. My area had a yellow warning for rain. I'm glad it's been relatively quiet.
I hope everyone is doing ok

Riverlee · 02/11/2023 13:15

Quieter here than expected also. There were strong winsds during the night (sounded like a train rushing past) but just heavy rain and gusty wind since. I think it’s going to get stronger later again. (Kent)

Eloradannin2nd · 02/11/2023 13:16

More than 70 trees fallen here in Guernsey which is 10miles x 4 miles. Pretty scary going to bed last night with the wind howling. I love a good storm, but the very real threat to life took the excitement away. Fortunately we got off lightly compared to Jersey.

I was giving the OP the benefit of the the doubt. Maybe what I should have said was "I hope this was tongue in cheek"

Agree that whatever the OP's intentions were it's totally insensitive and very disrespectful.

AbbeyGailsParty · 02/11/2023 13:18

South coast we’ve got flooded roads, closed roads, just had a text from GP surgery they’re short staffed due to weather so don’t contact unless it’s absolutely necessary. Winds not too bad so far, haven’t seen any trees down yet.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 02/11/2023 13:21

Poor poor taste OP.

I’m sure all the people who’ve had the ooomph and drama would dearly love to have not had any

Crikeyalmighty · 02/11/2023 13:25

It's just foul here in Bath but not stormy- heavy rain and light wind and dull

Onethingatatime23 · 02/11/2023 13:25

I think it has been a lot more fragmented and less widespread than predicted, with some areas experiencing strong enough conditions to cause damage.

I was saying earlier I'd rather know and the storm be milder than expected than the other way round.

In London so far it is just an unpleasantly wet and windy day and the rain was heavy enough in the early hours to wake me up.

tattygrl · 02/11/2023 13:29

Sorry OP but this is tactless.

I enjoy a good storm and some rainy windy weather, when it's to the level that I can enjoy being cosied up inside with a hot drink and a good book - not to the level of 100mph+ winds and fearing for my safety and my home.

I'm in Yorkshire and we've not had anything save a bit of rain and clouds, but I have family in rural Cornwall I've been very worried for. Many people reading will be in the same position of worrying for loved ones down south, or will be in the storm themselves.

Allfourwalls · 02/11/2023 13:34

Jesus OP. Some people have lost their homes/cars and it wouldn't surprise me if there have been some deaths. It's not something to be envious of. But I'm sure with climate change you will get your chance to enjoy some flooding and hurricane winds at some point.

Marveladdict · 02/11/2023 13:46

That video of the baby cam is bloody awful and scary - that maternal instinct was on fire!

Bluevelvetsofa · 02/11/2023 13:46

It’s here and it’s gone on for far too long. We’ve had floods for over a week and they can’t get pumped out fast enough. There are trees down, roofs smashed- one roof has landed in a supermarket car park. Another supermarket car park flooded last week and the store is closed until next week, whilst the water rises higher and higher. Other roads, if passable are rammed.

It isn’t funny and if you’re sitting in the middle of the country, with a bit of rain, spare a thought for those who have lost their homes, some will lose their businesses because a business park is flooded. Or better still OP, come and help out.

treadingonlego · 02/11/2023 13:57

Are we meant to hope your home floods or your roof tiles blow off or a tree smashes into your car soon, OP?

shardash · 02/11/2023 14:02

Be careful what you wish for OP.

This, karma is a bitch 😜

ColleenDonaghy · 02/11/2023 14:27

God this is an awful OP. Have you even glanced at the news today? Or indeed all week?

DistrictAndCircle · 02/11/2023 14:35

I think we are running the risk of crying wolf a bit with naming storms and having traffic light warnings for what most people would experience as no more than a blustery autumn day.

I am in Somerset. It’s windy. But it’s not so windy that it should be the lead news story locally (which it is) with a live blog. It’s not so windy that some local schools have closed (which they have) or that we should be sternly warned to think about staying indoors.

It’s fine.

If we are to have named storms and warning levels, I think that the threshold should be higher, they should be as localised as possible, and they should be removed with as much speed and publicity as they’re imposed.
