Where is the STORM!!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/11/2023 12:37

I love weather.

It’s dark, gloomy and raining heavily.

But it’s missing some oomph!

We’ve had weather warnings. I need some drama.

There is no storm. It's the usual weather related hysteria 🙄 everything is exaggerated now.

Er what the fuck?
We have no stork here as we’re not in the south coast and didn’t have a storm warning. But I’m not that much of an idiot that I can’t see the Channel Islands and south coast have been shredded FFS. But if something doesn’t affect you personally then it hasn’t happened I guess.

CoffeeWithCheese · 02/11/2023 14:46

We have minimal bad weather here this time - I'm perfectly glad for that since we've still got two inches of water in our cellar from the flooding after Babet (although yes I think the named storm thing is naff as fuck).

Insurance loss adjuster says he's now been in most of the houses in this road assessing flood damage from the last storm.

crumblingschools · 02/11/2023 14:48

@DistrictAndCircle i think the storm tracked slightly than they thought. Where we are it hasn’t been too bad but can’t say the same for other parts of our county.

And warnings were removed during the day

Itsnotchristmasyet · 02/11/2023 14:48

I’m in Cornwall and haven’t been too badly affected but over 6000 homes have still got no electricity, many roads are still blocked and many schools and businesses are still closed.

We’ve also had severe flooding which is going to impact businesses and homes.

I don’t want it any worse.

Nemareus · 02/11/2023 14:49

Somewhere in the SE and all calm.

PinotPony · 02/11/2023 14:49

JFC! What an insensitive post OP.

You need some drama? Grow up.

I cannot stand this attitude of ‘if it doesn’t affect me personally, then it’s obviously not a big deal and no one should be worrying about it’.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 02/11/2023 15:06

Just started with heavy rain here, West Yorkshire, obviously as it's school pick up time! Hmm

Liamgallaghersparka · 02/11/2023 15:08

I live up north and I'm pissed off to buggery with this bloody rain / wind / grey bloody skies / shite weather.

TheChosenTwo · 02/11/2023 15:14

SE here, it has rained quite a lot but not really anything in the way of wind. Obviously I am incredibly grateful but I was expecting, based on the forecasts which i am aware is a prediction not a crystal ball, a lot more.
As I said, very grateful that our local area seems to be all fine and ignored by the storm and thinking about all those who are now having a bloody nightmare.

Lateliein · 02/11/2023 15:23

Guernsey too and it was scary. Kids and animals terrified. Fuck your drama

Stressedafff · 02/11/2023 15:32

What sort of oomph would you like? A tree falling on your car? Your roof being wrecked?
What a weird post

Cheesecakefiend · 02/11/2023 15:36

I’m with you OP. The weather ( in England at least) is not dramatic enough for me. Drizzle and wind just does not cut it. I’d like lightening and thunder more often than the 6 times a year we get locally.

Nemareus · 02/11/2023 15:37

Proof that people will argue about anything 😀. Anyway, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people who have made decisions based on the information they were given to mention that that information was wrong.

I am sure we are all sorry for anyone affected and suffering while wondering why got got diff info. Both can be true simultaneously.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 02/11/2023 15:37

PickAChew · 02/11/2023 12:44

Maybe just open the BBC news site and see for yourself. Plenty of drama for other people for you to rub your thighs at. Some deaths and injuries and plenty of near misses for you to relish 😠

This ffs

Quite. My desire for more dramatic weather does not mean I don’t feel empathy for People caught up in a storm.

purplecorkheart · 02/11/2023 15:41

Strange wish. I was watching an elderly man cry on the news because his house was flooded and everything destroyed. I am sure he would be happy to swap places with you and you can have the drama!

GoatsareGOAT · 02/11/2023 15:42

FFS one of the people that died in the last storm was my friend's niece.

Be careful what you wish for.

FoleyHuck · 02/11/2023 15:42

@Nemareus The original information wasn't 'wrong'. The incredibly powerful storm that was predicted and modelled but was very much still forming this time yesterday simply tracked about 100 miles south of the exact predicted route.

100 miles is nothing in meteorological and geographical terms but meant that parts of Northern France and the Channel Islands got hit even harder than predicted and a a PP accurately put it got 'shredded', and some of the South of England narrowly escaped it.

There are some really clever folks on the Weather board who can explain it much more accurately than me.

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/11/2023 13:05

Oh yeah?

At 3am here it was fucking mental.

@HelpMeGetThrough

sorry to hear that, how are you now? Any lasting damage?

it was supposed to be bad here (north Hampshire) at 2 am, but it wasn't even drizzling, sounds like you might have had ours as well as yours 😩

TheBirdintheCave · 02/11/2023 16:16

We're in Horsham and I'm just about to walk to get my son. It is blowing a gale and pouring down here. Wish my luck 😓

Boopydoo · 02/11/2023 16:18

I have never lay in bed awake listening to the wind howling and fearing the windows would blow in in all my 53 years like I did overnight last night. The wind was hellish here in the bottom of Cornwall. Wheelie bins were all being blown around, the tree in front of mine was rocking, and you could hear god knows what rubbish and debris ricocheting around the streets. It was very frightening, I am so relieved there's been no structural damage. Schools opened late morning and some are closed completely. Roads are still blocked with trees and people are without electricity.
Dramatic enough for you?

Tessisme · 02/11/2023 16:43

Here in NI, people in Downpatrick, Portadown and Newry (to name but a few) have had their homes and livelihoods destroyed. Who wants drama like that?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/11/2023 16:56

Not the smartest thread.

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/11/2023 18:34

@Pinkpinkpink15

No damage, but was getting very worried about the tree in our side garden, as it looked like it would go at one point. Would have hit the house.

Need a bloody good clean up outside though.

Gusts here recorded at 90+ mph. It was pretty hairy at times. A few fences down the road gone and trees down around the main roads.
