Has your DH turned into a grumpy old man?

I love my Dh and I used to hate him going away

But now I enjoy a weekend with him out of the house. He has become quite grumpy and a bit controlling

He definitely wasn't like this when we were young

Male mid life thing?

yes - mine is absolutely the same, sometimes I wonder if I've ruined him somehow. Definitely a mid life thing

Liuckle · 31/10/2023 17:00

I do hope it changes again

Does getting him into the countryside ( walking etc ) help ?

( hope he is not still doing some 9-5 job :( )

ItsFreeOnFriday · 31/10/2023 17:17

Mine is increasingly so. He is over 70 though so not sure if it is mid life thing or an old fart thing. It’s quite tiring though.

hattie43 · 31/10/2023 17:28

I think it's an affliction for any man when he hits 50

Allmarbleslost · 31/10/2023 17:30

Yup. He has literally turned into FIL. Who he always used to complain was so grumpy.

Nippi · 31/10/2023 17:32

Mine's over 70 and has been a GOM for 20 years. Not controlling just complains about stuff.

user1471556818 · 31/10/2023 17:45

Luckily no but changed his job a few yrs ago to something he loves doing and works with young people. He's always been a younger soul, sadly for him I'm turning into a grumpy old woman by the day

Screamingabdabz · 31/10/2023 17:48

Mine’s turned into more of a non-stop chatty fusspot. It’s a standing joke that I just continue scrolling on my phone ignoring him as he rabbits on about radiators or something.

FictionalCharacter · 31/10/2023 17:52

Yes. Grumpy and uncommunicative. I’m wondering whether I can cope with it forever TBH because he spoils everything we do, outings, holidays, the lot.

Agree

DH is 53, and more grumpy than he use to be

I lovingly call it 'dickmentia'

THisbackwithavengeance · 31/10/2023 18:14

I have renamed my DH "Victor".

SquishyGloopyBum · 31/10/2023 18:14

What do you mean by controlling op?

Flibbertigibbettytoes · 31/10/2023 18:18

Yep, grumpy and tends to interpret stupid everyday things as criticisms or (unwanted) requests. Makes relaxing and just chatting really difficult.

BigFatLiar · 31/10/2023 18:20

Depends on what's going on. Mainly he's incredibly laid back but somethings just get to him. He used to get annoyed and grumpy about them but these days he just shuts down if anything contentious comes up.

Eliza121 · 31/10/2023 18:21

Yep, he's unbearable at times. He's 44

KohlaParasaurus · 31/10/2023 19:54

No, he knows I wouldn't tolerate living with a grumpy man. He's not as active as he was 20 years ago, but his increasing inertia is good natured and co-operative.
My father is in his eighties and enjoys a rant, but my mother would soon tell him if he was turning into a grumpy old man.

Liuckle · 31/10/2023 20:08

Maybe controlling is a bit much

Just gets grumpy around the house and ruins the atmosphere

I'm not perfect but when he is away me and the kids get along fine

Hereforthebunfights · 31/10/2023 20:17

He gave it a go but I told him to sort his shit out or I'd divorce him.

BetiYeti · 31/10/2023 20:20

Yep, mine is definitely getting grumpier!

Northernsouloldies · 31/10/2023 20:27

My theory is as the years roll by you accumulate more things that irritate and bug you thus getting more grumpy as you age. My wake up call to this was when the young lads at work christened me.. I didnae like.

Teaandscone · 31/10/2023 20:29

My darling dad was never grumpy and liked a good laugh until the day he died.

Summerhillsquare · 31/10/2023 20:31

My exDH got like this in his late 30's!

DramaAlpaca · 31/10/2023 20:35

Mine's 61 and as long as he gets out on one of his many bicycles regularly he's fine. Plus it keeps him out from under my feet.

AmandaHoldensLips · 31/10/2023 20:37

Not just the grump but what the fuck is it with all the fleece clothing?
