Inspired by the trending weather thread and the individuals who appear to be au faith with weather models, got me wondering what uncommon or unique thing you know a lot about and would be regarded as people's "go to" (if they knew)?

Mine is foreign exchange.

Oh if we're including random stuff we know... I know all the books of the bible in order (old and new testaments). Occasionally comes in handy in quizzes! I'm a lifelong atheist btw, but my friend taught me it as a song when I was at school and it stuck!

Bbq1 · 28/10/2023 22:29

The Bronte sisters.

WeWereInParis · 28/10/2023 22:30

Oh and rocks. My dad was a geologist so I was often shown what were apparently interesting bits of rock and told about them on various hikes I was dragged on. A reasonable amount of it sunk it.

Early medieval French religious dynastic strategy. Surprisingly not many people want to know more about that.

I would be interested in this - can you recommend a book?

Ooh, what's the song? Is it on YouTube?

LadyRoughDiamond · 28/10/2023 22:32

British and European royal families and how many of them are linked to Queen Victoria

Ladyof2022 · 28/10/2023 22:33

The suffragettes. I didn't actually realize how much I knew until by sheer chance the subject was chosen by one of the contestants on Mastermind. She was given 19 questions and she got 17 right, but I shouted out the answers at the television, and I got all 19 correct.

TokyoSushi · 28/10/2023 22:35

Medicine manufacturing. Politics. Premier League football.

The brain, universities, students.

I doubt it! My friend's granny taught it to her. This was in the 1980s! It's not a tune I've ever heard in any other context.

HarridanHarvestingHeldaBeans · 28/10/2023 22:38

Sheep. Even though I bloody hate sheep.
Tidal changes caused by causeway building.

I beat a Mastermind contender on the novels of Antonia Forest (I knew the answer to the 'sugar in the petrol' question Grin) but Antonia Forest has a lot of fans on Mumsnet so probably not as niche here as in the rest of the world.

Female Pre-Raphaelite artists and muses.
How to spot if a wild boar has been nearby and what to do if one runs after you.

Funnily enough, neither subject has ever come up in conversation.

Extraordinary knowledge of nothing that really matters. Ace at general knowledge quizzes. I know the answers to stuff I didn't know I knew. Sadly I know nothing of use in everyday life......except never believe anything you read online, if it sounds to good to be true it's a con, and they really are all out to get you.

spookehtooth · 28/10/2023 22:46

My security software I deal with in my job I guess, there's rarely more than 2 or 3 jobs advertised in the country at a time. It's not exciting, sorry, but it pays the bills. I'm trying to branch out into developing some of the software ideas I have

Other than that I guess the environment and ecology stuff I read about is fairly niche. I love leaning about the relationship and interdependence of all the living things on our planet. Currently reading a book on road ecology, looking at the impact of roads on the environment

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 28/10/2023 22:48

Air crashes
the works of PG Wodehouse and Anthony Buckeridge
Female piano composers of the Black Chicago Renaissance

However my specialist subject on Mastermind would be Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 1-6 and more specifically, minor recurring characters thereof :)
