Surely companies should insurance? So backed by guarantee?
You would think the Home Office would be sorted?
The council is par for the course. Bus station. They have also gave up repairing North Road.
And god knows what is happening with Premier Inn side( New Milburngate) it’s at least 2 years or more now. Wouldn’t surprise if they knock it down!!
And they are putting photos in the windows of The Stack. But I still miss M&S and even Yorkshire trading had some good stuff ( like a good hardware shop)
I’m going for a lie down now, need to stop moaning.

I know, it does seem depressing as we'll lose the shops in Prince Bishops whilst that's redeveloped and who knows if any will return afterwards.

I suppose a lot of town centres elsewhere have been completely abandoned and we still have some lovely independent shops and cafes at least, even if they aren't too helpful for the day-to-day shopping. I've earned enough 'stamps' at Collected for a free coffee now Grin

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/11/2024 00:28

I forgot for a minute about Prince Bishops. TG Hughes/Next /New Look won’t be back.I think.
They are making the units quite small. Not sure about vision express and Boots opticians they might move somewhere else.
I do like the Northern Deli. They now have some weight your own items now.( from shop at Framwellgate moor)
They are doing something with the old northern electric shop on North Road. But I do love a good bookshop (eyes pile of books 🫣.

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/11/2024 00:30

The loud God preaching man was at Framwellgate Moor not town centre.

PickAChew · 10/11/2024 08:23

I'm hoping the Prince Bishops redevelopment doesn't meen that yet another coop bank closes it's doors. DS1 banks with them and while I have permission to call them on his behalf (he is non-verbal) it's much easier to deal with someone face to face so that he feels involved.

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/11/2024 11:18

I was hoping that part wasn’t going to be affected! So Coop and Greggs etc.
Hope Chester le Street Coop stays.

House of Fraser is staying in Darlington - www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/24714272.closing-signs-taken-darlington-house-fraser/

That's good news for the town. It would have left a big hole.

AlviarinAesSedai · 11/11/2024 16:05

Anyone else find the Northern Echo website almost unreadable? The adverts.
But good news for Darlington.

PickAChew · 11/11/2024 16:37

It's even worse than the Chronicle @AlviarinAesSedai but at least the Chronicle doesn't nag me to pay it money and it does have an app available. I've not managed to be able to run the teesside live app on the same phone, though. They obviously didn't bother to account for those of us on the cusp of two areas when they created the current version of their apps.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/11/2024 11:15

God yes. I came off the Echo website

Not at all about buses but I’m giving up sewing and wonder if there is anyone who would appreciate some lengths of material. I don’t want to post them but would be happy to deliver. Odd selection really ,some tweed lengths, velvet Polyester bought to make a dressing gown, guipure lace in green. I live near the bus station in Durham. I just don’t want to bin them.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/11/2024 13:55

Oh I would as dd is doing costume design but won’t be in durham
at all. I’m in Darlington.

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/11/2024 15:11

I bet some of the textile students at Durham sixth form or New college would love the fabric.
Olio is good for giving items away. And if they don’t turn up. You can rate them.

The Pass it on Durham Facebook group is always good for donating items - things get snapped up quickly.

Someaddedsugar · 15/11/2024 20:00

I'm in Durham once a week so could collect for @lifelongfrugaleer @Stanislas?

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 15/11/2024 20:56

Only if you are sure @Someaddedsugar that would be great thank you

Someaddedsugar · 15/11/2024 21:20

If that's ok with @Stanislas I can collect. I pass through Durham city on my way home anyway 😊

PickAChew · 15/11/2024 21:34

I'm glad the fabric can go to a good home. If my fabric stash could talk, it would be complaining about being kept in overcrowded and inhumane conditions 😂

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/11/2024 07:31

We don’t yet have a fabric stash as dd is only in y1 sixth form. I can see it in my future to jostle with the craft stash

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/11/2024 07:31

Thank you. If it’s not too much bother. Otherwise donate it well be fine

SinnerBoy · 16/11/2024 14:13

I've just been past the Tyne Tunnel, on the Newcastle side. There's been a pile up, Police and 3 ambulances in attendance. Two smashed up cars in the outside lane and 3 on the verge, on the Southbound approach road.

Nothing in the Chronic, as yet.

PickAChew · 16/11/2024 14:33

That sounds nasty, @SinnerBoy - and the chronic is useless for travel news on a weekend. Plenty about the impending flurries smowmageddon, I've noticed.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/11/2024 08:17

Oh awful. Hope people aren’t too badly hurt

Stanislas · 19/11/2024 18:09

@Someaddedsugar if I pm you my address or would you like some other way to pass it on. I have a bag ready and have a bench outside my house where I leave things for collection or to be collected.i hope the materials would be suitable. Whole sewing room in fact but DH is having health problems and my time is non existent.

Stanislas · 19/11/2024 18:10

Hadn’t heard about the crash. The snow was very light here in Durham.
