I wonder if they have Instagram or Facebook page. Mine just wore Christmas jumpers ( had to get my wear out of them) plus it was bloody cold 🥶.

AlviarinAesSedai · 05/11/2024 00:25

Just checked out their Facebook and people just wearing normal clothes (and jackets cause you need a jacket).
Did mention it’s freezing.
Hope you have a lovely time and you get a light dusting of snow ⛄️.

It is utterly depressing...couple of nice shops down Bondgate but walking along Newgate st is grim. I am old enough to remember how it was with Doggarts and a busy market

Thanks, I didn't think to check the Facebook page!. Good point, we have a late timeslot so we'll need to wrap up anyway probably!

Just catching up. I'm gutted about Binns! I have many happy memories from going in there (and Dressers!) as a child.

Can I ask where's good to eat in Durham at the moment? I'd hoped to get into Coarse but it's fully booked as usual 😂. Looking for somewhere to take DP at the end of the month for his birthday and was hoping for somewhere a bit nice as usually we have DS and go for pizza or a burger etc and we've got a rare child-free night!

Does it have to be Durham City? Have you tried the pavillion up at Iveston? Also, we love Ravello’s in Lanchester. We do love Coarse though!

Someaddedsugar · 07/11/2024 18:47

Ideally city centre so we can get the train so that I can have a drink! I do love the Pavilion though @Florelei!

The Rabbit Hole is a bit different - it's Asian fusion and does nice cocktails, small plates and mains. I think the menu has changed since we visited.

Or Whitechurch has nice, comfort food.

I've been wanting to try Barrio Comeda for ages but heard it's just closed!

AlviarinAesSedai · 07/11/2024 19:11

Is ‘Isla by coarse small plates Friday and Saturday night available?

AlviarinAesSedai · 07/11/2024 19:18

I love Tia’s and Fusha Asian Fusion. Then Crush the new wine bar.
The Rabbit Hole looks lovely. Or Zen.

AlviarinAesSedai · 07/11/2024 19:23

Barrio Comeda is closed was just in the paper. White church looks very nice.
Shaheens is nice too.

AlviarinAesSedai · 07/11/2024 19:37

I really want to visit ‘The Small Canteen’ in Sandyford Newcastle

Someaddedsugar · 07/11/2024 21:03

Thanks for all the suggestions! I didn't think of Isla @AlviarinAesSedai - browsing their menu now! Has anyone been to Faru?

I’ve been to Faru. It’s amazing!

That might be the one @AlviarinAesSedai!

PickAChew · 09/11/2024 14:31

I see the passport office is closed until January, now. Which particular bunch of cowboys threw it together, again?

PickAChew · 09/11/2024 15:56

Carillion. What a surprise.

Someaddedsugar · 09/11/2024 17:41

What's happened with it @PickAChew? I've missed the news on this one...

Some of the cladding came off in the wind and crashed through a skylight. Apparently staff have been complaining about shoddy build quality since it opened.

Someaddedsugar · 09/11/2024 17:58

That's awful! Why can't anyone seem to build things properly anymore?! It's only been there five minutes.

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 09/11/2024 18:41

The cladding on the new bus station is faulty too. Scaffolding is still up.
On Framwellgate front street today there was other God will save you man!
The new development opposite cinema is still not signed off!!

PickAChew · 09/11/2024 19:41

And there is no redress because Carillion went bust of course.

Another one, @AlviarinAesSedai ? There will be fisticuffs.

AlviarinAesSedai · 09/11/2024 19:53

Surely companies should insurance? So backed by guarantee?
You would think the Home Office would be sorted?
The council is par for the course. Bus station. They have also gave up repairing North Road.
And god knows what is happening with Premier Inn side( New Milburngate) it’s at least 2 years or more now. Wouldn’t surprise if they knock it down!!
And they are putting photos in the windows of The Stack. But I still miss M&S and even Yorkshire trading had some good stuff ( like a good hardware shop)
I’m going for a lie down now, need to stop moaning.
