Fenwicks window looks really good this year.

PickAChew · 03/11/2024 22:57

I didn't realise it was tonight. It does look a fun one.

I wonder how it will work when they put the central front doors in. Or have they abandoned that plan?

AlviarinAesSedai · 04/11/2024 10:42

I didn’t know they were going to change doors. They could make it work. I mainly go to food hall.
I find the shop more confusing than John Lewis!

I took my daughter up there on Saturday, for Christmas shopping, but didn't think to go on Northumberland Street. We were getting Jelly Cats and I also got dragged into Sephora - £70 on three items!

PickAChew · 04/11/2024 12:50

I think the launch was last night, anyhow, @SinnerBoy - I spent a happy 10 minutes browsing the Jellycat display a couple of weeks ago and bought DS1 a gingerbread Christmas tree one for his birthday, next month, along with some festive lego.

SinnerBoy · 04/11/2024 12:53

Ah, thanks - I feel less silly now. We managed to miss the Whitley Bay fireworks last night, I thought it was going to be on Friday... There's a display at Segedunum, with free entry to the museum...

Min decided that the baguette was a better bet than the croissant.

AlviarinAesSedai · 04/11/2024 18:44

I thought Jelly cats look just like beanie babies! But they are very cute. Saw some today out shopping.
I’m not going in Sephora!
Going to Newcastle this weekend so Fenwicks window from afar. lol.

PickAChew · 04/11/2024 20:37

I don't think there is a beanie baby 🍆🤣

AlviarinAesSedai · 04/11/2024 20:48

What are they called? I have always called the beanie babies. Lol.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

Beany babies don't have one of these 😂

Ah, I see. I’m out of the loop and very naive!
They are bloody expensive and why would you want an 🍆 or a 🥐. They even have a sandwich 🥪.

AlviarinAesSedai · 04/11/2024 23:11

Do you know if the new all weather pitch at new college will have flood lights? Because if it has I can’t believe they got planning permission!

PickAChew · 04/11/2024 23:22

The college already has floodlights, anyhow. Hopefully the new ones wont be much bigger.

AlviarinAesSedai · 04/11/2024 23:22

Bloody hell it will be bright!
I feel sorry for the flats/houses behind.
But I suppose progress.

Apparently Binns in Darlo has a buyer though I didn't see what it's to be. I haven't been in there since it became a glorified Sports Direct.

Consultation is open on the North East transport plan (you Darlo folk are Tees Valley for this. Sorry!)

Mugwump in Durham has an excellent selection of Jellycats too - DC love them but they are so expensive!

We usually have a trip to see the Fenwick windows once the queue has died down.

Out of interest, has anyone done the Tanfield Polar Express before?

PacificCoastHighway · 04/11/2024 23:56

AlviarinAesSedai · 25/10/2024 21:38

Just seen that the passport office is closed.
If rumours of windows damaged it’s shocking for a new building.
And the bus station isn’t fixed yet.
Collected the book shop must be doing well they are expanding, so happy news.
But in other news the religious man was very very noisy in market place today.

That's great news about Collected, the staff in there are fantastic - are they going to be staying in Riverwalk do you know?

AlviarinAesSedai · 05/11/2024 00:00

@PacificCoastHighway yes same shop, I think the Facebook page mentioned basement?
It’s a lovely shop, great books and very nice coffee! Credit to the city centre.

PickAChew · 05/11/2024 00:00

Yep, I bought DS1 his Aubergine in Mugwump! I must have ankther look around.this year. I'm trying to buy as many gifts as possible from physical shops.

AlviarinAesSedai · 05/11/2024 00:03

I’ve done Tanfield polar express but many moons ago. Was very good, but my children loved going on trains.

AlviarinAesSedai · 05/11/2024 00:06

I keep forgetting Mugwump is there! Definitely need to visit again. Cathedral then new ice shop then Mugwump, books then home. Perfect day.

That's good to hear! Ours love trains too (as do I)! Do people wear pyjamas or just general Christmassy gear?
