We arrived shortly after 10 when the sculptures were still relatively fresh.

I think the Demagorgon, the crown and Genie's lamp are in the most vulnerable spots on the bridges.

Got super packed by the time we made our way home after lunch.

We must have been there similar time, because the Demogorgon look same as my photo , sky was very bright.
The Alien one was very frozen looked better thawed a bit.
Did you solve the puzzle, I’m no good at anagrams.
I imagine this afternoon was heaving. It was definitely a good weekend for it. Very cold but bright.

xsquared · 24/02/2024 16:41

Yes, we did @AlviarinAesSedai . It was an anagram of Fire and Ice.

AlviarinAesSedai · 24/02/2024 16:48

Hope you handed in , I would love to have won jewellery making and afternoon tea.
I was trying for one word, 🙈

PacificCoastHighway · 24/02/2024 18:00

We had a good visit to Fire and Ice today as well - I'm glad we went this morning as some of the sculptures were melting quickly in the sun. It was so busy everywhere for lunch we grabbed a sandwich on the go in the end.

We also popped into the Cathedral to see the Lego scale model of the Cathedral which was impressive. If any of you have young DC into Lego, there's also a house on South Street which has a Lego display on the windowsill - the owners have some lovely Lego sets that they change quite often to match the season!

AlviarinAesSedai · 24/02/2024 18:10

I can remember the Lego Cathedral when it was being built, I paid/ donated a couple of pounds for some bricks .

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 24/02/2024 18:30

I think I built around half of that cathedral with my DC! It took years! Or at least it felt like it.

PacificCoastHighway · 24/02/2024 22:58

Wow, your building efforts / donations were worth it in that case Grin!

AlviarinAesSedai · 04/03/2024 14:08

Happy March everyone, I’m off work this week and it’s freezing but the sun is shining.
Spring needs to hurry up, the lighter morning and nights are welcome.

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/03/2024 20:12

The weather is horrible, I’m so sick of the rain and the cold. It’s so depressing.
I forgot we are having elections in May, is it for the new Mayor, who I don’t want, another layer of bureaucracy to cost money.

SequentialAnalyst · 10/03/2024 20:45

Blimey! If you think the Lego version took a long time, can you imagine how long it took to build the actual thing Wink Worth it though...Easter Smile

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/03/2024 21:57

Years and years but they kept adding bits on. Can you imagine how clever they were. No cranes etc. Master builders indeed.

AlviarinAesSedai · 28/03/2024 08:30

Happy Easter everyone.
Just seen Coarse are opening another restaurant, exciting.
Just received our election cards.
I don’t want a north east mayor. Can see Co Durham being left behind, but hope to be proven wrong.
And I’m not saying anything about the Police Commissioner

@geordielass we're over here if you fancy joining 👋🏻

Hope everyone's ok!

Has anyone been to the Redcar kite festival before? Just wondering if it's worth a visit

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 19/05/2024 10:35

I've not heard of it before, I'll look it up.

I have got tickets for me and the bairn for the Northumberland County Show, next Saturday. She loves it.

AlviarinAesSedai · 19/05/2024 11:31

Northumberland county show is good, but the queue to park!
Never been to a kite festival, didn’t Sunderland have a kite festival years ago (but my memory is rubbish). If weather nice everything is better.
Hope everyone got great photos of the aurora? Not asleep like me🥲. DD got some great photos.

AlviarinAesSedai · 19/05/2024 11:34

@Geordielass35 this is the newest thread.

PickAChew · 19/05/2024 11:36

I remember a kite festival near Washington back in the 90s, @AlviarinAesSedai though I never did visit. Not the wort of thing ex would have been seen dead at.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/05/2024 12:52

I was asleep @AlviarinAesSedai

Someaddedsugar · 27/05/2024 18:53

I was asleep for the aurora too!

Didn't end up going to the kite festival but did think it looked ok for a day out from what I saw on social media. There was a fossil event at the same time that was free but I didn't see that advertised anywhere which is a shame!

I wish the weather would make its mind up what it's doing. I'd really like some proper sun for a bit - not this sun then shade then rain cycle 😂

Saw Durham bus station for the first time yesterday. It’s a bit of an eye saw isn’t it

The buses still don’t have much room. God knows how it cost about 10 million!
They could al least have made the road safer, when the buses are leaving!
I’m quite excited about the new Coarse restaurant, if it’s half as good as either Flat White/Leonards I will be happy.

AlviarinAesSedai · 27/05/2024 20:21

Agree the weather is shit, it’s so clammy.
We have definitely had enough rain this year! Hopefully no water shortages for us ☔️

The trick is to get there early, we arrived just before 10. By heck, it was a quagmire! I relented and let my daughter wear her Crocs, which seemed to have been a mistake, but in the end they were easier to clean than shoes; my walking boots were proper clarted up!
