There is so much out there, but nothing seems to fit the bill any more.

We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ (but not in UK so some things might not be available).

We have enjoyed: Spies in Disguise, Mitchells vs the Machines, Pokemon movie, Hotel Transylvania, Despicable Me, Shrek, Tangled, Cars, Emoji film, Mario Bros, Lego movies, Monsters Inc, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Home, Sing, Trolls...

We only want animated, nothing that is too tragic or preachy. Something engaging and entertaining for adults and older teen, but fun and suitable for a slightly sensitive 8yo.

We have not all enjoyed: anything Dr Seuss, Encanto (anything with Hamilton guy involved), Planes, Monster Family, Sea Beast, probably loads more that I've just blanked.

Any ideas? There are SO MANY films out there, I need recommendations! Thanks!

Ratatouille of course. We all watch it regularly! I love it!

MeinKraft · 27/10/2023 23:52

Also it's nearly time for Christmas so, Arthur Christmas

MeinKraft · 27/10/2023 23:53

And Home Alone - the only non animated film my son would ever sit through (with the possibly exception of Smokey and the Bandit Grin)

Oh yes, please try your younger one on Home Alone if they’ve never seen it

OliviaFlaversham · 27/10/2023 23:59

Back to the Outback
Big Hero 6 (massively underrated I think)
Clifford the big red dog

We have enjoyed these recently

TootiiFrootii · 28/10/2023 00:08

Zootropolis. Sing 1 & 2. Mary Poppins (the original). The Iron Giant. Big Hero 6. Encanto. Alexander and the Terrible Bad Day.

I'm happy to watch any of those more than once!

Dottydoodoo · 28/10/2023 00:16

Wreck it Ralph, and then wreck it Ralph breaks the internet. We have rewatched both of these this week and really enjoyed them, they are so cleverly done!

truetruebarneymcgrew · 28/10/2023 00:54

Chicken run
Curse of the wear rabbit (although might be a bit scary for a sensitive 8yr old)
The secret life of pets
Arthur Christmas...some brilliant lines in that one!
The rescuers
Brave
101 Dalmatians
Robin Hood (cartoon version)
Sword in the stone
The black caldron
Eldorado
Aladdin
Lion king? But maybe a bit heavy going?
Turbo
The croods

WhatsWorkLifeBalance · 28/10/2023 08:06

Mine are 5 and 7 love the Narnia films, Matilda, Charlie and the chocolate factory, Annie, Stuart Little, Mrs Doubtfire, absolutely loads to choose from.

dontforgetme · 28/10/2023 08:12

Top animations in the house are
Sing 1 and 2 - number 2 is coming to Netflix soon.
Mitchells vs The Machines
Luca
Wreck It Ralf 1 and 2
Ron's Gone Wrong
All the Toy Story's - my kids recently got back into these and I have been loving it!

SENDhelp2023 · 28/10/2023 08:21

How old are you dcs? The haunted mansion is brilliant, on disney

Jijithecat · 28/10/2023 08:44

Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers the movie on Disney Plus. It has jokes for the kids and adults. I think it's part animation part live action.

Doone22 · 28/10/2023 13:14

Go classic old skool: princess bride

thelongroad · 28/10/2023 14:47

Thank you for all the suggestions. Some we've seen and enjoyed, some are new for me.
I've avoided the Studio Ghibli up to now because I really dislike the style they are drawn in (I also am not keen on really clunky 3D-type animation, although that has thankfully got less obvious over the years).
That Hamilton Guy - the style of music he composes really grates, I can tell almost immediately if he's been involved in something as it has that patter-speaking thing and he uses a very distinctive set of chords for everything.
Obviously I'm able to sit through something I'm not massively keen on, but given a choice I'd prefer something I actually enjoy too.

I need to work on ds2 and live action, I think - that will open up a whole world of film possibilities! He's enjoyed Paddington and Pokemon, so it's not a blanket ban.
Really looking forward to Christmas films, that seems to be a lot easier somehow!

I know you said no Hamilton guy but I won’t be able to live with myself if I don’t mention Moana…

If you do like The Bad Guys, you might want to know it's actually a book series, my kids have read them all since watching the film and love them!
