I'm 35 and I'm currently in a 1 bed flat on band 3 (general needs )
I've been on housing list for 7 years now (same housing list my flats with )
I'm bidding on 2 bed houses and getting up to 20th position
Sometimes 15th ish
Do you think I'm wasting my time ?
What's the chances of me getting a 2 bed house ?

Look into what deposit they require and work towards saving for that. Your monthly mortgage payments maybe cheaper than your rent payments. Once it's all paid off all you have to worry about is bills every month.

porridgeisbae · 27/10/2023 13:03

£100,000 for a two bed house is not expensive and could be achievable!

Not for everyone, especially now mortgage fees a month are so much higher than they used to be.

It absolutely is out of reach for many people. I'm a single person earning £22k there's no way I could get a mortgage on my own for any amount unless I had a massive deposit.

Could be achievable is what I wrote because it could be achievable! I didn't say it was a given, I'm not sure what ppl are not understanding!
Would it make it better if I offered the op my house? "Good size three bed, sought after location" I don't have artificial flowers though so she might not like it!

Hecate01 · 27/10/2023 13:36

@Kendodd I don't see how it's remotely comparable. Social housing is funded by the government and people who rent them pay a lot less than they would in the private sector.

I can't see why anyone would think it's right for a single person to have two bedrooms because they want sleepovers with friends whilst there are families trapped in temporary accommodation with no cooking facilities, literally just a bed in a room.

We all moan about the housing shortage when the OP clearly has a roof over her head, just not one big enough for her entitlement.

loandbeholdd · 27/10/2023 13:55

@Lifeetc why are you trying to make out that me wanting to move from a horrible 1 bed flat filled with druggies and all sorts is me being "entitled"
All your comments have been so rude and patronising
Go and spend time in your 3 bedroom house in the sought after location minus artificial flowers rather than trying to pull apart someone who just wants a house to feel safe in and actually be able to enjoy living in

@loandbeholdd

There's are other people who have commented similar or more directly not sure why I've been singled out.
But thanks I will enjoy my beautiful home 😊

Did anyone else link to a £100,000 house to buy as the answer?

But thanks I will enjoy my beautiful home

@porridgeisbae I'm pretty sure a lot of people will have looked at house prices in Middlesbrough, another person (spent longer than I did) and pointed out a£60.000 property

Lifeetc · 27/10/2023 14:13

@loandbeholdd
Honestly it's beautiful, so thank you 💞

loandbeholdd · 27/10/2023 14:17

@Lifeetc there's being helpful like some decent posters who don't agree but give helpful advice
Then there's being rude/arsed to someone for no reason
It's just unnecessary
Not everyone has the same opinions on things but honestly there's so much nastiness in the world
There's just no need

I hope you get it!

Some horrible posts on here. If you didn't bid on these houses then someone even "less deserving" would get it. Which I almost want to happen as it would wind people up even more. But then, no-one would ever know...

LaurieStrode · 27/10/2023 15:37

Good luck, OP!

loandbeholdd · 27/10/2023 15:56

I actually think I may have got it
This has came up on my account
I'm trying not to get too excited

How was the property when you viewed, OP? I assume you like it.

funbags3 · 27/10/2023 15:57

Well done. Hope it's in a better area.

loandbeholdd · 27/10/2023 15:57

The previous tenant had left all the carpets down and all the blinds up
I won't sleep now till Monday morning 🤣

Looks nice and clean. Will they leave the carpets down for you?

Nice. You're very lucky. Enjoy your new home.
