My daughter is 3. Possible infection. She's had a seizure and I'm waiting for an ambulance but I feel so so scared and so so alone. Please

So glad she's getting the right treatment now. What a terrifying experience. Hope she recovers quickly.

ImWally6 · 26/10/2023 23:51

Oh thank god!!! Good mama instinct. So sorry you had to go through this. The tories have alot to answer for. X

Cropcycle · 26/10/2023 23:52

So good they’ve worked out what is going on and got her on an IV so quickly. You must be relieved but i imagine totally physically and mentally exhausted. Are you in LGI? I hope you manage to get a bit of rest and can get something to eat and drink yourself. Really hope DD is much brighter by morning after fluids and antibiotics. Xx

LightSpeeds · 27/10/2023 00:00

So very very pleased to hear your update ❤️

WithIcePlease · 27/10/2023 00:04

Best wishes for a rest tonight and a speedy recovery

wanttokickoffbutcant · 27/10/2023 00:09

I know it’s not the same op but my MIL spent 8 hours on Tuesday night on the floor waiting for an ambulance and then 10 hours in a corridor in a&e waiting for a bed. She has a fractured pelvis and is 89. The emergency system seems broken. She is getting great care now she is on a ward. Hope your daughter has a good night and is much recovered tomorrow.

HikingforScenery · 27/10/2023 00:16

Good to read that she’s receiving treatment. Speedy recovery 💐💐

sugaryouth1 · 27/10/2023 00:57

We are at the lgi. The nurses gave us both some toast and tea for me. I'm so exhausted I could cry but she's getting the care she needs. Nothing else matters

Hi OP I’m a paeds nurse with 14 years experience and seizures still frighten me!! I’m sorry you went through this, so glad you’re being treated now. My daughter recently had croup and we were told the same with regards to the ambulance despite her gasping for breath :( it was very scary and my husband scooped and ran just like you. She’ll soon be on the mend, try to sleep when you can x

Anyone who's seen any of those Ambulance TV documentaries knows that the service is staffed from top to bottom with dedicated people who deal with an overwhelming number of calls. If lots of Category 1 calls come in, the dispatchers know this, and they are all Number 1 Priority, but there are only a certain number of ambulances, and they are all over the locality. And then ambulances have to spend hours outside hospitals waiting to get their ill patient actually admitted. All the while knowing that somewhere someone is lying on the floor with a broken hip, or any number of emergencies, that they can't get to yet. Meanwhile, the dispatchers are tearing their hair out, because they know what all those emergencies are, and how long they have been waiting, and there is not much they can do about it.

I don't know what the solution is. More staff, more resources, and more money. I would be happy for Income Tax to go up to 21%, but lots of families couldn't afford it.

So glad you trusted your instinct, and scooped and ran. I expect you could do with a cuppa BrewBrew

CockSpadget · 27/10/2023 01:10

So glad shes now getting sorted OP. What a mess our emergency services are in. An unresponsive child having to wait hours for an ambulance is horrific.

WomanHereHear · 27/10/2023 01:14

I’m sorry op! Hang in there. This happened to my nearly 3 yo I actually thought she died, we rang ambulance but wait was long, she started coming around but we took her to hospital where she had loads more and was completely out of it when the seizure was over, it was so scary seeing her like that in that state. She hasn’t had any since and we think it was covid related as since then she’s had temperatures but not seizures. It’s so scary and I know how you feel but she will hopefully be fine, just see if you can take her in a taxi

WomanHereHear · 27/10/2023 01:15

Just seen the update, she is in safe hands

SirVixofVixHall · 27/10/2023 01:16

So frightening reading this Op. i am very relieved to read that your dd is now getting the care she needs and I hope that she is feeling better soon.
My friend’s dd had several febrile convulsions when she was small, she was prone to very high fevers and that triggered them. She grew out of them with no lasting effects.

coxesorangepippin · 27/10/2023 02:06

Hugs Op she's in the best place

You must be beyond exhausted

I get it @TerrysNeapolitan
My thoughtless friends with small children used to say you couldn't understand how a mother felt until you had children - not to me, but while I was in the room and could hear them. I reckoned I could understand - maybe not fully, but I am a human being with empathy. I was lucky enough to have the children I wanted, not without some difficulty, and do you know what? I was right about how I would feel, though the intensity of the feeling was more.

In this case, I think it was just unfortunate wording. OP didn't mean to exclude you. BrewBrew

nodneat · 27/10/2023 03:25

So pleased she is in safe hands OP, vert frightening for you.
A very thoughtful post from sequential, however. Terry's seems very bitter with that comment. How can you say you were worried and glad until thar comment? So,because of OP's wording you now aren't?
OP has just been through a traumatic ordeal and you're comments are about you, as Willywonka says.

heldinadream · 26/10/2023 20:10

Keep your body in contact with her body OP. Lie against her so her body can feel your warmth and heartbeat.

She has a temp already, she needs stripping of otherwise she will fit again. The fit is caused by the high temperature.

Cropcycle · 27/10/2023 04:58

Glad you were given tea and toast OP and hope DD is asleep and you are resting if not sleeping. I’ve got 3 friends who worked in Paediatrics at LGI and St James for a long time and friends who’s DC have been treated at LGI for various conditions, and it seems really great. I’m sure they will have her back to her usual self very soon.

Sparklfairy · 27/10/2023 05:03

@TerrysNeapolitan the last thing the OP should be worrying out when posting is offending some random stranger on the internet fgs.

I don't have children either. This is a really inappropriate thread to spill your own baggage all over.

leni172662389901 · 27/10/2023 05:04

So, so glad your little one is ok. Well done for taking her to A&E. I hope she feels back to herself again soon!
