The knock-off Baileys. This stuff.

I like their deluxe macaroni cheese with pancetta and breadcrumbs. DD and I have it sometimes when DS isn’t here as he won’t eat it. I can make macaroni cheese but sometimes if busy with work it does the trick!

I also like their 0% Greek yoghurt which I have for breakfast. And their own baked beans (Newgate?) are actually really good too.

waistchallenge · 23/10/2023 21:27

Christmas food goodies are worth a look if that's your thing. 24 month matured Christmas pudding, mince pies, stollen, marzipan bars. Probably a lot more I'm missing off.

vipersnest1 · 23/10/2023 21:28

@waistchallenge, I can assure you I'm a very ordinary person who is definitely not engaging in market research! (I know I'd say that even if I was, but if I were, I think I'd come up with a more imaginative way to do it.)
So far, the cheeses and Kalamata olives are sounding appealing (kalamata are the only olives I like).
I'll pass on the kayak and the tracksuit, thanks @OldTinHat and @LaDamaDeElche! Grin
Any thoughts on nice chocolate (particularly dark) or frozen lollies and ice creams, in particular a cornetto dupe or fruit smoothies?

If UK Lidl is the same as Danish then the Christmas food has just arrived. So if they have them I recommend the pate selection where they come in little round circles, the mini stollen, and liebkuchen.

From the freezer I quite like their vegetarian pizza.

TommyDeVito · 23/10/2023 21:36

@vipersnest1 they call them ‘kalamon’ (it’s a different name for Kalamata) and they’re in a jar in the aisle with the pickles (gherkins etc) in red wine vinegar and olive oil they’re amazing, stones in too, which is good, they also have lovely olives / feta selections on the deli, I love their houmous too, lots of varieties
think you will be a Lidl regular 🫒

ReviewingTheSituation · 23/10/2023 21:36

The greek yogurt. The full fat version (they've recently rebranded it as 10% fat). Not greek style, but actual greek.

Their Lurpack rip off is good.

Salmon fillets (the Deluxe ones) are better than all the other supermarkets, but nowhere near as cheap as they used to be!

Sausages also good (again the deluxe ones)

Wine, beer etc are always on my list.

Things that I bought once and wouldn't again - Tunnocks wafer rip off, digestives, tea bags, bagels, malt loaf.

waistchallenge · 23/10/2023 21:38

Yes, @ReviewingTheSituation , the tea situation is a let down relative to their other offerings.

shardash · 23/10/2023 21:39

Bakery. All of it.

Vettrianofan · 23/10/2023 21:42

Sleep tea bags with Linden and Lavender.

Wrongsideofpennines · 23/10/2023 21:44

From the fresh bakery the chocolate brownies are good, and they have some amazing olive and rosemary bread at the moment. I think its only supposed to be there a while but its amazing so I hope they keep it.

They also had chocolate covered gooseberries in the other week which were surprisingly good.

And in the Christmas food the hot honey and camembert crisps were worth trying.

waistchallenge · 23/10/2023 21:46

Just remembered, sourdough crumpets.

shams05 · 23/10/2023 21:46

Their Cornetto style cones are definitely better than the original Cornetto, better priced and bigger too.

ssd · 23/10/2023 21:47

Tje chocolate brownies and past del nata custard cakes

Cantonet · 23/10/2023 21:48

I like the herrings they do in sour cream with gherkins & apple - a little niche I know. Wine is a really good selection, especially coming up to Xmas. The botanical Gin is so much nicer than Gordons.

NotFastButFurious · 23/10/2023 21:49

Avoid their almond milk, it’s disgusting and has an overwhelming flavour of articial almond flavouring.

shardash · 23/10/2023 21:52

Their chocolate coins and tree decorations are good.

ltscoldonthesidelines · 23/10/2023 21:53

Fillet steak, continental meats, cheese, coffee capsules, Low GI bread and a pomelo. My shopping trolley today

JemOfAWoman · 23/10/2023 21:57

Dora particularly likes the premium cat food! Can't get enough of it......

I'm going to Lidl tomorrow...
waistchallenge · 23/10/2023 21:57

Over summer they have loose dark cherries that you scoop yourself. Absolutely delicious. Didn't get a sniff of them this year, it was a clean sweep by the gannets 😂

This year someone even bagged up the last remaining kilo or so of them while I was waiting my turn!

weebarra · 23/10/2023 21:57

I really like their Tony Chocoloney dupe with caramelised almonds.
DS1 loves their smoked duck slices. Sultana butter biscuits.

ThreeRingCircus · 23/10/2023 22:02

Pastel de nata from the bakery. They are amazing.

Livingoncaffeine · 23/10/2023 22:08

Potato salad with yoghurt dressing. Comes in a huge tub.

Angrymum22 · 23/10/2023 22:11

Brownies from the bakery. 10secs in the microwave and they are to die for.
I also stock up on their version of Lurpak.

Leighdown · 23/10/2023 22:15

The Bon Gelati premium ice cream tubs - the chocolate and salted caramel ones are my favourite.
