Would you go to Las Vegas alone?

I'm 40 next year and I'm hoping the next decade will be filled with all the places I've always wanted to visit. Within affordability that is. As life has turned out... I'll be doing all of these trips alone.

I've always wanted to visit LV but I've always said it's the only place I'd want to go with company. It just seems like the kind of place you should really be in a pair or a group. I'm not particularly fussed about concerts (as in singers like Adele etc) just really browse around. Eat and drink. Check out the casinos and have a little gamble. Shop. Walk around and just soak it all up really.

Be honest though. Will I look a sad wanker?

You will be fine. I went with exh but he was a miserable twat who decided he had a migraine every day so I just went out and about on my own. I loved it.

The buffets are awesome, the casino features like the fountains, the venetian canal are amazing. Playing at the casino is a solo thing anyway. Lots of people go on their own. You certainly won't stand out. Go and enjoy it.

RandomNutter · 22/10/2023 20:30

It's a place that lots of people are alone. Even lots of the ones that don't go alone seem to feel free to go off and do their thing. You'll have a great time.

You can always book some group things while you are there- from a quick google- https://www.tourradar.com/t/28322#:~:text=Start%20and%20end%20in%20Las%20Vegas!,%2C%20meals%2C%20transport%20and%20more.

which could break up that feeling of being on your own (I find after two days I sometimes feel a bit weird on my own when I travel). I did Vegas on my own, but it was at the end of a tour which saw the grand canyon and monument valley among other places. When we arrived in Vegas I had a few tour friends to hand out with for a couple of days before we went home.

Have you considered doing a group trip? Gadventures and Intrepid do trips like this. My single friend has done a few of these and had an absolutely fantastic time and made some quality friends from it too.

With that said, there's no shame in going alone. I just think (as much as I love LV) it's a place where you might get some enjoyment from having other people you can spend time with when you want to.

chipsandpeas · 22/10/2023 20:37

yeah id go alone, its probably one of the best places to go alone imo, you can blend in quite easily

KeithChegwinFromExtrasPopKnob · 22/10/2023 20:39

Really don't want to be stuck in a group. I'm doing NYC alone next February. I've done Europe alone. Doesn't bother me. I'm a loner. There's just something about Vegas that stops me!

You won't have any issues going alone and won't certainly feel out of place.

I'm 45 and travel the world alone, my fav place to go alone is the Maldives! People think I'm weird for going to a 'honeymoon' destination but it's not like that all. There are plenty of solo travellers.

For my 50th I will be doing South Pacific and French Polynesia alone.....can't wait

Greygardenz · 22/10/2023 20:43

Yes definitely. I'd stay at MGM grand. Do the shops, maybe a shoes and see the Grand Canyon.

shivawn · 22/10/2023 20:46

You'll be fine on your own. Do be careful walking around by yourself at night though and even during the day if you're off the main strip. It's almost 10 years since I've been to Vegas but the walk from the strip to Fremont Street was pretty rough at that time.

Mirackleeus · 22/10/2023 20:58

Absolutely not. There's a lot of sex workers in Las Vegas and you wouldn't want to be mistaken for one.

SophiaElise · 22/10/2023 20:58

Las Vegas and New York are wonderful done alone - I've done both! I'd argue that you'll get more out of them doing what you want to do and not having to pander to someone else's preferences or restrictions (e.g. an underage child)

I don't think this is a big concern for the OP - sex workers have a distinct look to attract business. It is quite obvious in LV who is a sex worker and who is a tourist. As pp said keep to the main strip, don't go out late at night and you'll be fine.

I would def go - it is so busy there, no one will notice if you're on your own. Loads to keep you occupied that's not a show or gambling related Last time I went we did a trip to the Grand Canyon which I highly recommend.

I would. I felt really safe there, I was with a group but mainly DHs friends so I often walked all the way along the strip on my own. There is a lot to do there so I don't think company is needed, its one of my favourite ever places.

Don't be so bloody ridiculous

Scotinoz · 22/10/2023 22:25

Vegas would be brilliant alone! I wouldn’t think twice about going. Eating, drinking, shopping, people watching…you’d never be short of someone to talk to if you wanted, but I happily spent a bit of time there in splendid solitude years ago 😀

PixiePirate · 22/10/2023 22:26

Absolutely great location for a solo trip. Try to stay on the Strip itself for safety and i would try to visit Fremont St during the day rather than at night if I was alone. I’ve been a few times and feel perfectly comfortable wandering around on my own. I’ve found the Cosmo particularly welcoming to women. Enjoy!

RandomMess · 22/10/2023 22:31

Go long enough to go to the Grand Canyon - do the helicopter & boat ride, it's mind blowing.

They do a 3 day ticket to do the zip line and all sorts of activities on the strip - def do that too.

Changingplace · 22/10/2023 22:36

I went earlier in the year and yeah it’s definitely a place you can do alone, if you’re into doing some gambling that’s a solo activity anyway :)

I regret not going to the Grand Canyon but if I went back I definitely would. I preferred Fremont St to the strip, the casinos are fun but once you’ve seen them you’ve seen them & Fremont felt more real.

SkaneTos · 22/10/2023 22:38

Sounds like fun!

Bon Voyage!

junbean · 22/10/2023 22:40

I live not too far from LV and recently went for a week with my DD. I've been alone as well. It's fun either way! Just walking around and looking at everything is fun. But if you're the kind of person who needs someone to say "Oh wow look at that" to you might feel lonely. That's the only thing I can think of that might be a drawback. It's very crowded with tourists so you'll be surrounded if not shoulder to shoulder by people for sure. Restaurants are very crowded too, so even if you're eating out alone there's so many people nearby to talk to- you know how friendly American are lol. I would go alone again and don't see anything wrong with it!

What!? No there's not! It's a very family friendly place. There's no more sex workers than anywhere else and none in plain sight to tourists.

Breakingpoint1961 · 22/10/2023 22:43

You'll be fine alone in LV, so much to see and do..loads going on..I'm
very jealous!

BouncyBallBall · 22/10/2023 22:44

I have been to Vegas alone. It was great. It was a 3 day stop off on another trip and I didnt even give the fact that I was alone a 2nd thought

MimiGC · 22/10/2023 22:45

Personally I hated LV itself, but the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon was unforgettable- exhilarating and a bit terrifying, but in a good way. Don't miss that.

DoratheFlora · 22/10/2023 22:53

No, I wouldn't go with someone let alone on my own.

It's a nasty naff gambling hell hole.
