Would you go to Las Vegas alone?

I'm 40 next year and I'm hoping the next decade will be filled with all the places I've always wanted to visit. Within affordability that is. As life has turned out... I'll be doing all of these trips alone.

I've always wanted to visit LV but I've always said it's the only place I'd want to go with company. It just seems like the kind of place you should really be in a pair or a group. I'm not particularly fussed about concerts (as in singers like Adele etc) just really browse around. Eat and drink. Check out the casinos and have a little gamble. Shop. Walk around and just soak it all up really.

Be honest though. Will I look a sad wanker?

Except people mistook me for a sex worker when they thought I was on my own so clearly not ridiculous. Unless you're denying what happened to me happened?

Haha. I don't believe it for a second. Sorry.

I wouldn’t go as far as “very family friendly”, but I would certainly feel safe as a sole female traveler.

I’ve been a number of times, and would jump at the opportunity to go alone.

I’d say stay at the Bellagio if it’s in budget - it’s luxurious, central, has a great pool for a chill day if need be, and is by far and away the best LV hotel I’ve stayed in.

I took my child last year- there's an incredible amount of activities for families and young kids, hotels with no gambling or smoking, etc. It's very easy to have a wholesome time.

I went alone about five years ago in my mid-30s.

Never once mistaken for a sex worker ffs 🙄

Stayed in a budget hotel in the strip, felt perfectly safe as fully busy touristy.

August and outrageously hot. There was a caviar vending machine.

Downsides: I have no idea how to gamble and no real interest in learning, so wandered round the casinos but never had a go. Everywhere STANK of stale cigarette smoke because you could smoke indoors like it was the 1980s.

Took a small group trip one day to the GC which was awesome, and took the edge off any “solo lonely”.

Not sure I’d need to go back, but certainly a once in a lifetime experience.

Totally agree, we took 2 toddlers with us and there was plenty to do, everyone made such a fuss of them also.

We have stayed in various hotels there, The Wynn and The Bellagio are gorgeous.

The OP asked if MNers would go to Las Vegas alone. I said no and gave my reasons. You don't have to believe it.

No you're right, I don't have to believe it. Luckily there are hundreds of holiday destinations and what suits one person may not suit another.

Grimbleton · 23/10/2023 18:58

Have a look at air bnb experiences if you don’t want to solo the whole trip. There will be walks/events/food tastings you can sign up to as a small group experience / likely to meet some other solo travellers

Absolutely not. There's a lot of sex workers in Las Vegas and you wouldn't want to be mistaken for one.

Why would she be mistaken for a sex worker? What a strange comment.

hattie43 · 23/10/2023 19:35

I did years ago . I was let down last minute so spent a week on my own in vegas . It was fine and I felt safe .

Because I was when men thought I was on my own.

Throughabushbackwards · 23/10/2023 20:33

I've been to LV twice on business and both times spent much of the trip on my own. I absolutely loved it, it's safe and easy to get around if you stay in the main part of the strip.

I'll be in jeans and flip flops. Think I'll be fine 😀
