Very grubby workmen going into pub after work..

I was out walking the other day and noticed a bunch of young workmen going into a pub after work. They were in their work clothes, but one in particular was really grubby. His jeans covered in grease and dirt.

I realize they were going to a pub, but same pub's clientele gets a bit fancier dressed later on, and many office workers go there for lunch. Some of the seats are padded vinyl, the ones up against the wall are upholstered in cloth.

What do you thing the protocol for this would be from the server's point of view? Direct him to the vinyl seats, give him a newspaper to sit on, refuse him entry? I know I wouldn't want to sit in the seat after he had been there.

I don’t think I’d notice, tbh.

What newspaper are you thinking of? I don’t mind sitting on a greasy seat but I wouldn’t frequent any establishment that carried The Sun.

Quitelikeit · 19/10/2023 23:00

What? Are you ok?

🤣🤣🤣

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 19/10/2023 23:01

A man?! A DIRTY man?! Saints preserve us! I am shocked, shaken and shrieking!!

CandidClarisse · 19/10/2023 23:01

Did you actually follow them in? Maybe they didn't sit down but just stood at the bar!

Meniscus · 19/10/2023 23:01

So you weren’t going to the pub later, hadn’t been for lunch at the pub, you don’t work in the pub, the workmen weren’t refused entry or in any other way presenting themselves to you as a problem to be solved, but you’re wondering which type of seat the pub staff should direct them to sit on, or whether they should throw them out, in case their jeans transfer dirt to the ‘fancier’ later clientele, or the office workers who might have lunch there tomorrow?

Orangewall · 19/10/2023 23:01

As someone who has worked in a pub similar to your description…his money is as good as good any any so no, I wouldn’t be putting him on newspaper 🤣

Orangewall · 19/10/2023 23:03

Typos in there 🤦‍♀️

  • his money is as good as any

I don’t think there’s enough pearl clutching on mn now. People used to clutch their pearls often. Hardly ever see a pearl clutcher these days. Or a gavel come to think of it.

On here for the comments 🍿

Please can some of you make it comedy gold Grin

Greenshake · 19/10/2023 23:05

How do you get through the day OP 😂😂😂

Jewelspun · 19/10/2023 23:13

Have you ever sat on train or a bus?

You must be a right pain in the arse taking your own mattress with you when you go on holiday ......

LoganCaleSeries5 · 19/10/2023 23:14

i can understand if the grease is getting on the seats, but then i guess before anyone sits is to see how the seat is ?

mdinbc · 19/10/2023 23:16

haha for all the comments, but this man was covered in grease/dirt to the point where you couldn't see his jeans original colour.

No, I didn't follow them in, but I do often go there for pub dinner and drinks to meet up with friends. I certainly wouldn't want to wreck my clothes sitting in a seat where where someone so filthy had been.

Admittedly pearl clutching. In future will check seats before I sit.

@mdinbc some places do have dress codes, i guess then it depends on the pub or venue.

HoppingPavlova · 19/10/2023 23:20

Meh, this is why I wear black. All my pants are black and prob 50% of my tops. If I’m eating out I will wear a black top in case I get sauce drips or whatnot down my front.

This will solve all your problems OP.
