Very grubby workmen going into pub after work..

I was out walking the other day and noticed a bunch of young workmen going into a pub after work. They were in their work clothes, but one in particular was really grubby. His jeans covered in grease and dirt.

I realize they were going to a pub, but same pub's clientele gets a bit fancier dressed later on, and many office workers go there for lunch. Some of the seats are padded vinyl, the ones up against the wall are upholstered in cloth.

What do you thing the protocol for this would be from the server's point of view? Direct him to the vinyl seats, give him a newspaper to sit on, refuse him entry? I know I wouldn't want to sit in the seat after he had been there.

I once went to a club which had a sign up saying "Women and dirty clothing are not permitted in the vicinity of the pool table". 🙄

Thoughts and prayers to you at this particularly challenging time OP. I hope you can find the strength to pull through.

Darker side???

It's how mn used to be

You did ask for it, op, come on

I find it ever so useful to carry a silk lace doyley in my purse for the purposes of resting my clean and dainty derriere upon. The servants wash any stains and chewing gum out of it.

Ok this made me laugh out loud 🤭

I used to work at a canalside development a few years ago where there was a Wetherspoons with a big outdoor area. In the height of summer, all the men drinking there would be shirtless. However, woe betide any of them going inside to get a drink like that (as if none of us had seen them like this on the patio).

Maybe the OP should drink there.

🤣
PMSL
Sorry, that's all I have.
Apart from are you sure a pub isn't beneath your sensibilities?
Try a tearoom instead

Darker side of the forum? 🙈🙈

Good grief OP you do live an extremely sheltered life.

I was just about to say the same thing. How some people cope with life is frankly beyond me.

haha for all the comments, but this man was covered in grease/dirt to the point where you couldn't see his jeans original colour.

No, I didn't follow them in, but I do often go there for pub dinner and drinks to meet up with friends. I certainly wouldn't want to wreck my clothes sitting in a seat where where someone so filthy had been.

Admittedly pearl clutching. In future will check seats before I sit.

Buy a pair of Jeans from a charity shop and roll about the garden in them a good few times before wearing them to the pub for dinner. It won’t matter then if you have to sit where the workman sat earlier in the day.

Recycledblonde · 20/10/2023 05:25

You'd have conniptions in rural France where workmen go to restaurants for a sit down lunch, the last one we were in, the dustmen were having a 3-course lunch, and very nice it was too.

I'm giggling at this! I read "good grief!" In the voice of Lucy's dad from Not going out!!! 😂

This is literally what public houses are for.

cravingmilkshake · 20/10/2023 05:53

I went on a long run with a friend this evening and stopped at the pub for a coke. Both covered in sweat, red , puffy faces..... should we not have gone in?

We were welcomed in a friendly manner.

Posh pub too!

Aquestioningmind · 20/10/2023 05:56

Heaven forbid that a man who isn’t a banker goes to the pub straight after work and has a night evening.

Given the state of the service industry ATM I imagine they’re happy for any customers to go in (sorry to shit on your strawberries)…even if that customer is you.

cravingmilkshake · 20/10/2023 05:57

Last night * not this evening, still in bed !

tiredmama23 · 20/10/2023 05:58

Dying at some of these comments 😂😂

cocktailanddreams · 20/10/2023 06:06

Filthy dirty man in work gear...ding dong. Tell me which pub and I'll sniff him out and seductively whisper the error of his ways. I'll happily clean the seat afterwards.

This!
Perhaps you (quite literally) need to get out more OP?

A few years ago there was local news footage of Boris Johnson conducting some 'business' from one of my favourite coffee shops. I haven't been able to return since for fear of residual transference of all the lies and evil that hop about his person like fleas.

I'd be fine with a dirty workman though.

Beezknees · 20/10/2023 08:45

This literally wouldn't even cross my mind!

PositanoBay · 20/10/2023 10:46

Firstly, are you ok?

Very grubby workmen going into pub after work..
ScarletWitchM · 20/10/2023 10:46

You can’t go back to this establishment again. God forbid.
I suggest you find a new watering hole - maybe a nice wine bar where dirty workmen are not allowed in. They might also ban anyone not wearing formal clothing and shoes which should ease your concerns
