Confused - star children?

Today while at work a customer midway through a normal conversation told me that she exists on a different level to almost everybody around her.

She went on to outline all the ways in which she was special, examples being that she was a star child, brought to this earth to create change, that she is capable of seeing the world for what it truly is and that she would eventually expose it.

She then told me that she can talk freely and openly to me as I am an “old soul”. That she could feel the same power in me but maybe Ive lost touch with it as I’ve grown?

I didn’t really know how to respond so I mainly nodded and smiled. I’m in no way a deep thinker. I put a lot of thought into lunch from about 11am and then think about how I made a bad lunch choice from 1pm until about 3pm.

I feel like I was being recruited into a cult. I’ve googled some of the terms she used but it’s left me even more confused!

Any star children on here who can enlighten me?

I’m not a star child, but I don’t think I need to be to see that this woman is bonkers…kudos for her self esteem though 😂

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/10/2023 13:23

It’s a load of mumbo jumbo. Like people who call themselves empaths, psychics/mediums, and people who insist that they can “read people” exceptionally well and know what others are thinking all the time. Just smiling politely and letting them get on with it is the correct response.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 17/10/2023 13:25

Is this the same as the indigo children who were all the rage a few years ago?

It's a lot of nonsense, of course, but I guess it sucks in people who feel inadequate or whatever.

My policy is to avoid people who show themselves to be bonkers.

I think Star Children are the successors to Indigo Children. Or is it Crystal Children who come next?

Tragic really-parents so desperate for their children not to be ND that they invent a whole mythology. But maybe understandable in the early days of understanding-or misunderstanding-neurodiversity....

A customer at my work told me we were poisoning her with heat, that the secret services were photographing her at all times, she has chip in her eye and we were giving her electric shocks through the floor. Probably your one's sister.

4naansjeremy · 17/10/2023 13:35

I was expecting her to launch into conspiracy theory but actually it seemed like she was confiding a secret with me although I’m sure she confides in everyone who crosses her path.

I will admit to feeling a touch of pathetic pride in being identified as an old soul. I obviously know I’m not but I can see how this belief system can be quite intoxicating for some! Who doesn’t want to feel like they are special?

You. Are. The. One

HighlandCowbag · 17/10/2023 13:40

Old soul = prepared to listen to her bullshit 😄

4naansjeremy · 17/10/2023 13:43

In that case I’m the oldest of souls! How do you shut down a conversation that bizarre without conflict? I was in her home at the time!

Was she accompanied by a carer? Maybe on day release from an institution 😉
Years ago a young lad early 20s came to work at my place briefly and told some of the younger female employees 18/19 year olds) that he was an undercover agent and he was entitled to kill them .
Yeah course you are sonny Jim

My old PT was apparently a star child. Funnily enough did a lot of drugs and lost custody of her child for 2 years. She told me angels appeared in her livingroom and told her she was sent here to save the world. This happened after she'd smoked DMT. Around the same time she told me this, there was a news story about North Korea and nuclear weapons and she was convinced this is what the angels were talking about and she had to stop Kim Jong-un.

She wasn't my PT for long because her friend who had been on a 10 day ketamine binge had a dream that the PT was a beauty therapist so she quit being a PT and applied for a beauty therapy course at the local college.

All the way though COVID she denied it's existence, it was all a conspiracy to control the masses bla bla bla.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/10/2023 14:00

LOL at your deepest thinking being about lunch, I think that's me too. Grin

I've never heard of a star child, I wonder what world changes she thinks that she is here to set into motion. I suspect that she doesn't have enough friends/family who are willing to give her a reality check. She doesn't seem harmful though, and harmless eccentricity makes life more interesting.

She sounds like a fruitcake to me.

She sounds more like she has psychosis

Latenightreader · 17/10/2023 14:12

I remember someone looking at my baby (c4 months old) and declaring she was an old soul who had experienced much and could teach us all. At that point (and for the next couple of years) she taught me a lot about sleep depravation.

Sheraprincessofflower · 17/10/2023 14:14

I used to be a teacher and a parent once told me that one of her kids was an indigo child and the other was a crystal child (this was to explain their behaviour issues, which they didn’t display at school). They were really lovely kids who had a chaotic upbringing and and no boundaries which I felt explained their behaviour issues much better but I just smiled and nodded.

Rosecoffeecup · 17/10/2023 14:15

I want some of whatever she is smoking

Mmmm.... fruitcake...lunch..... sorry I'm starving! Yup there are some odd bods out there, always interested to hear how conversations can suddenly swerve.

rocknrollaa · 17/10/2023 14:18

People just want to feel like they are special.

I just smile and move on, and don't get too entangled with people like this!

BertieBotts · 17/10/2023 14:22

My mum is into this stuff, it's magical thinking for people who struggle with everyday life as far as I can tell. I dread the day she falls into "lightworker" tiktok.
