I'm bored with my Tesco shopping order. Tell me your titillating grocery purchases.

I just let out another huge sigh when adding to and editing my Tesco shopping basket. I'm utterly bored of Tesco and of meh choices in general. What are you all getting from Tesco that have been scratching your food/tasty itches lately? Unfortunately, no Waitrose in our town. We just have Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, M & S and Iceland. Morrisons is usually more exciting but for this order I need to restock a few items specific to Tesco, so Tesco it is for this round. SIGH.

I currently have about 5 different cheeses, a bunch of yoghurt, eleventy billion kinds of crackers, EVOO, toilet paper and our regular bananas and strawberries in the order. I'd like to try some new stuff. We don't tend to buy crisps, cakes or what have you, just as a guide. We do eat meat though. Please share your tasty choices! I'm sooooo booooorrredddd.

Watching with interest.

I get mine delivered weekly from Morrisons and I'm just bored of ordering the same foods.

No idea or inspiration though.

M&S:
Coronation Chicken Flatties
Almond Biscuits
Seasonal Greens with Herb Butter (frozen)
Sliced Roast Beef with Coriander and Garlic
Lemon cheesecake

Sainsburys:
Lemon and Herb chicken schnitzel with caper butter
Top Dogs
Outdoor bred pork cutlets

I know you said not a fan of sweet stuff but the frozen pret chocolate croissants are the bomb.

Sorry realised after you’d said only Tesco.

Beef stroganoff pies
Salmon Wellington
Tesco finest leeks, peas and pancetta
Their finest cooking chorizo is okay too

I don’t tend to buy a lot of meat from Tesco, I don’t rate it much and would rather use Ocado and buy the price match products.

Chocolate covered almonds o.m.g.
I just bought a load of deli shelf stuff. Sundried tomatos, harrisa kofta kebabs, pickled slaw, marinated artichokes.

The foregn food section is always interesting but unique to your area ime. We have an Eastern European section so get sauteed to tomato auberine dip, stuffed vineleaves, smoked kilbasa type sausage and unusual cheeses.

Ooh we had that leek, peas and pancetta the other night and it’s lush!

@WhateverMate isn't a bit draining? I'm also trying to eat down my freezer so what's in my shopping basket right now is really just the weekly items we run out of and just blah... I kind of want my shopping to feel a bit like Christmas each time. A nice little surprise or something new to try, you know?

@leopardprintismyfavourite funny you mention the chorizo... I was thinking of getting a link of chorizo to start incorporating that into our cooking. We usually only have it when eating out and I recently thought we could start flavouring some dishes with it at home.

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 14:13

@Luckydog7 we haven't had marinated artichokes in a while. Thanks for that! Also... kielbasa, I've been thinking about getting a link of that sausage too.

From Tesco, I like their packets of coleslaw with the mayo separately, so much crunchier and nicer.

Also their venison grill steaks (the burger like ones not the actual steaks) - so good.

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 14:19

Just added capers, sauerkraut, and aubergine to the basket. Scintillating!

@ohsoso @leopardprintismyfavourite is that leek pancetta and peas dish really tasty? Maybe I'll try that for something different.

I tend to go wild in the condiments and chutneys section. This week it's Lime & Chilli chutney - that's going to wake everyone's sandwiches up.

Forgottenmyphone · 16/10/2023 14:23

Every week we always get the apple, peach, mango and passion fruit juice. It’s gorgeous.
Capiscana fajita kits are currently on offer and they’re great. This week we’re also trying French's Carolina chicken and slaw seasoning kit. We’ve really enjoyed the Blue Dragon stir fry meal deals recently too.
Now that the weather’s gone cold, I’ve stocked up with some soup. The 3 bean chilli is my favourite.

Yes! I treated myself to a 'party' prawn ring last week Grin

leopardprintismyfavourite · 16/10/2023 14:36

I bought the leek, peas and pancetta as part of the two dine for £12 (basically stopped me buying a takeaway) and it was good.

The chorizo - I add it to a cod and butterbean stew and serve with crusty bread

@WhateverMate I'm so glad it's not just me! And that's a great idea to buy a party ring. I remember the cooked king prawns from Aldi are really good. Thanks for that idea.

A thousand times this. I quite often peruse the new items on Ocado just to find something that’s a little left field. World food aisle or Aldi are also good for this.

If you love houmous or baba ganoush the Sabra ranges are a really lovely treat too.

I’m not sure if Tesco sell it but Ossau Iraty cheese and Pie d’Angloys cheese are also good.

Ryeman · 16/10/2023 14:45

We get a Tesco delivery each week - I know what you mean about it getting samey but I'm sure that would be the same wherever you shop. Our regulars from Tesco are: luxury fruit and nut mix, fig rolls, finest granola squares, German salami, bagels (whichever brand are on offer), BBQ minted lamb kebabs, naan breads to use as pizza bases, and we quite like their quiches.

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 14:53

Okay, see this is also something that's been bugging me lately – the lack of availability of various foods. I just went to add tomatoes to my order and there are literally only two sets of tomatoes available when there are normally 10 – 12. Heck, the product on the left isn't even actually available!

I have noticed a shortage in the tomato department recently as well - maybe some kind of supply issue?

@leopardprintismyfavourite I currently have a Fleur des Alpes cheese, a Tesco smoked cheese, and a Le Roule garlic and herb cheese in my cart. This is besides the halloumi and Parmigiano Reggiano that I needed to restock... I like a lot of cheese... a lot. 😬

I got my tesco shop today and I had been trying to add tomatoes for a few days, they have none at all! So I didn't manage to get any.

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 15:01

@Ryeman @EvelynKatie that's so weird and annoying. Every couple weeks when I make an order this happens. What's so surprising is it's happening on a Monday afternoon when you'd think they would have restocked already?

TheOctomyTober · 16/10/2023 15:11

Could you go into the store? I find online shopping really dull and clinical but I love wandering around a supermarket and getting inspired!

I'm having crosta and mollica mini flatbreads with houmous, pomegranate and cheese for lunch this week.

And the chocolate apples are a lovely seasonal treat!

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 18:46

@TheOctomyTober i sometimes do go into the store and yes it does feel a bit better at times. I think I’m overall stuck in a bit of a rut but I have been trying new recipes lately. It’s just the actual shopping that’s been so uninspired!

@MeetPetaka I tried looking for the venison grill steaks and they are not available near me. Phooey.

@waltzingparrot in my last order I bought a Jamie Oliver Keralan spice jar that I’m still yet to use.
