I'm bored with my Tesco shopping order. Tell me your titillating grocery purchases.

I just let out another huge sigh when adding to and editing my Tesco shopping basket. I'm utterly bored of Tesco and of meh choices in general. What are you all getting from Tesco that have been scratching your food/tasty itches lately? Unfortunately, no Waitrose in our town. We just have Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, M & S and Iceland. Morrisons is usually more exciting but for this order I need to restock a few items specific to Tesco, so Tesco it is for this round. SIGH.

I currently have about 5 different cheeses, a bunch of yoghurt, eleventy billion kinds of crackers, EVOO, toilet paper and our regular bananas and strawberries in the order. I'd like to try some new stuff. We don't tend to buy crisps, cakes or what have you, just as a guide. We do eat meat though. Please share your tasty choices! I'm sooooo booooorrredddd.

Gets some pitta, falafel, hummus and nice leaves to go in it.

grayhairdontcare · 16/10/2023 19:01

Is it your shop or is it because you are just bored of eating repetitive meals at home?

menopausalmare · 16/10/2023 19:03

I like their cheap rhubarb gin and glade candles (pumpkin spice) are on special for £3 at the moment.

I order myself a large Tesco "party salad" to have with prawn mayo or smoked salmon.

It's nothing earth shattering but feels decadent for some reason.

Also like organic medool? dates destoned then thickly swiped with mascarpone cheese and topped with fresh cracked walnuts.

Was only saying to DD this afternoon whilst we indulged it's a Snickers bar in individual bites.

Crackers with continental meats, mozzarella and tomatoes

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 21:13

@happylittlesloth we have the Itsu prawn gyozas in the freezer right now and already ate the chicken ones last week. Maybe I’ll do a special broth soup to eat them instead of just directly stuffing them into our faces.

@Molly54320 just added Ramona’s hummus wares to our cart. Thanks for that Rex. It’s a huge tub too for not much money!

I just did mine and alcohol is actually cheaper than food, it's certainly cheaper than toilet roll. So I may take up drinking.🍺🍺🍷🍷

JingsMahBucket · 16/10/2023 21:32

@grayhairdontcare I think it’s the lack of variety. I’m used to having much more access to interesting fruits, veg, and other products back where I’m from originally. It’s even difficult to find any squash other than butternut squash in the stores. Sometimes you can’t even find that.

Fry some bacon and some halloumi then put in a warm baguette with sweet chilli sauce. It isn't healthy but it's delicious and quick.

We do a lot of tapas style food so people can help themselves to cheese, dips, crackers, falafel, olives, salads etc.

I love the Greek flatbreads from Tesco toasted and topped with the jalapeño chilli jam from Aldi and a couple of fried eggs.

Have you pan fried them? They are amazing fried

Mourningbecomeselectra · 16/10/2023 23:11

Not really what you asked but Tesco organic butter seems a bit cheaper than other supermarkets at the moment. So get yourself some nice Maris pipers, savoy cabbage, spring onions , and have a feast of colcannon.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 19/10/2023 22:43

I have not read the whole thread, but I like this cheese: -

Caprice Des Dieux French Cheese 200G

I saw it recommended on Mumsnet once so I tried it and liked it.

BoohooWoohoo · 19/10/2023 22:54

I order from Tesco every week- how did I miss this thread?
I have ordered some recommendations like the venison steaks because I'm bored of my order too.

BettyBunMaker · 19/10/2023 22:58

I'm so bored of Tesco too. I pop to Aldi and get their butter chicken in a jar, fishcakes, potato gratin, peri peri rice and chicken from the freezer to mix things up.

Clotheshorses · 19/10/2023 22:59

What is the best way to cook frozen gyozas? I can't get it right but love them

YeaGads · 19/10/2023 23:02

Buy dates and streaky bacon wrap them and bake, chorizo in red wine, bake a Camembert and top with crispy red onions, small chunks of salmon with sweet chilli sauce, bake peppers and stuff with chilli rice and top with cheese, salad and crusty bread.

Try every type of noodle, they are overpriced in supermarkets, I go to a Chinese supermarket a few times a year but it’s a 40 mile round trip and stock up, I’m Chinese heritage so we eat a lot of Chinese food . Try this with stuff from Tesco. Mix minced pork, ginger, chopped water chestnuts, five spice powder, roll make them like a cocktail sausage, wrap in cabbage leaves and steam.

You can do a combination of steaming and frying them I forget the exact method but they go soft on top crispy on the bottom. Yum.
Or I just add them to a soup. I just kind of haphazardly throw some bits and pieces into boiling water plus the gyoza et voila! Usually mix in some miso, sesame oil and a good quality soy sauce.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 19/10/2023 23:06

My favourite bits from Tesco:
The fresh sauerkraut and kimchi.
Sabra houmous.
Olives, fancy breadsticks & other random deli bits.
The wicked vegan range.

timetorefresh · 19/10/2023 23:09

I found a nice recipe for souvlaki the other day which i bought all the ingredients for from Tesco. Was tasty, reminded me of holidays

Takeitonthechin · 19/10/2023 23:47

Great thread, I've just changed my items in my basket ... my Ds was getting bored of the same food

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 20/10/2023 11:45

I also like their finest ham and mushroom pizza.

AmIUnkind · 20/10/2023 12:10

Don't buy strawberries in October! English apples and pears are in season now.

IJemimaDigging · 21/10/2023 22:11

Finest Prawn Cocktail

MyAnacondaMight · 21/10/2023 22:26

Great thread.

The finest semi dried cherry tomato antipasti with orange are really good. The finest cheeses can be fun. I pick a different one each time I want to mix it up.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 22/10/2023 13:41

Luckydog7; are they the Deliciously Ella Chocolate Orange Almonds?
