Waitrose delivery - how do you unpack

falalalalal · 14/10/2023 10:19

I always unpack at the door and I've usually got about 3 trays delivered. The delivery person removes each tray as it's unpacked.

I've realised that I'm ending up on my knees at my front door unpacking the bottom tray.

How do others do it? ( I don't want them to come in to my house so prefer doorstep delivery...but not on my knees!)

Always have the delivery to the kitchen and unpack there. Never unpacked on the doorstep.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/10/2023 10:22

I carry the box thru to my kitchen & unpack on to work top or directly into cupboard or freezer. Rinse and repeat until all boxes emptied.

Terrifyingface · 14/10/2023 10:23

I got into the habit of doing it at the door during covid and haven’t really stopped. Our kitchen is at the front though so very close.

Do you swap around the empty crates? So when one is empty, put it on the bottom with the side bits up so the one you’re unpacking is always at the top of the 3?

This is what I do too.

Sunflowersinthewind · 14/10/2023 10:24

I unpack at the door into an IKEA bag. However ASDA take the emptied crate and put it onto the bottom of the stack for me so I dont have to bend down as much

Enko · 14/10/2023 10:25

I have some empty laundry baskets.
Decant into them and then carry through to kitchen. (while explaining to ddog no he doesn't need to sniff everything...)

Favouritefruits · 14/10/2023 10:26

I take the crate off them then in pack in quickly on to the side then swap my empty crate for a filled one and so on, they usually wait outside unless it’s raining then I tell them to step in for a minute! I would feel silly unpacking in the hall on my knees!

UnaOfStormhold · 14/10/2023 10:27

The crates have handles that can be flipped over so the boxes can be stacked without squashing the contents - I normally bend down to empty the first crate and then get them to flip the handles and put the rest of the crates on top of the empty one so they're the right height for easy unpacking. I have a set of some shallow cardboard boxes that are perfect for unpacking into, so I build up a stack in the hall while the driver is there and carry the boxes to the kitchen once they're gone. Seems to work smoothly.

Shadowboy · 14/10/2023 10:28

At the door the delivery driver drops the box in and then I carry into kitchen, then the next tray and so on.
It don’t like leaving the door open due to the dog and in winter all the warm air leaches out.

notthe1Parrot · 14/10/2023 10:30

I have two large crates in front of the doorstep (on the path). The driver unpacks his crates into my crates. I stay in the house. He usually offers to carry them into the kitchen when he’s finished but I tell him that I can manage. Been doing this weekly/fortnightly since the start of Covid.

bilbodog · 14/10/2023 10:31

my waitrose drivers are very happy to bring the crates into my kitchen where i put out a chair for them to go on - i unpack quickly on to my kitchen table whilst they bring the next one in and so on.

ssd · 14/10/2023 10:33

Don't they deliver the shopping in bags that you just carry through to the kitchen?

What do you rinse?

No that would work if the delivery driver wouldn't take the crate away. Perhaps they should be upturning them? I'm find emptying the top 2, it was just today and I was feeling a bit tetchy (bad night's sleep). I got down on my knees and suddenly thought "what the hell am I doing". I said to the delivery man "do you want me to get down on my knees" and he then picked up the bottom try and held it while I emptied it.

I carry though to the kitchen, then yes, rinse and repeat (no actual rinsing involved OP)

OK, so that's what Waitrose should be doing too. You and another person have mentioned this.

In the same way that I unpack my Asda or Tesco delivery, into the laundry basket. Although all of our delivery drivers allow us to unpack the top box and then move that to the bottom until we are done.
Just say that you have trouble bending down.

nibblessquibbles · 14/10/2023 10:47

I carry the crate myself into my kitchen remove the eggs and literally tip it upside down onto the floor. Take it back and grab the next one and tip that etc.
It's very quick and you can get a child to then pick out freezer stuff etc

fauconberg · 14/10/2023 10:49

I’ve given up now no longer bagged and use Ocado instead. It’s too bad for my back and a nightmare with dogs, kids around. I do go to the shop sometimes which is preferable to their delivery.

I’ve done exactly the same. Ocado’s bagged deliveries are far more civilised than scrabbling around on the doorstep with Waitrose’s bloody crates.

LargeMeateor · 14/10/2023 10:56

I take the top crate into my kitchen, put contents on my worktop then take the empty crate back to the driver and take the next one and so on..

I can't imagine myself on my knees at the front door, you're over complicating things.
I've also never thought there would be a different way to do it than taking the crate to the kitchen.
In the olden days when they used to give bags I'd put all the bags in the hallway.

LargeMeateor · 14/10/2023 10:57

falalalalal · 14/10/2023 10:42

If you're on your knees making a scene they probably feel awkward getting involved

BigBundleOfFluff · 14/10/2023 11:04

I have a spare under bed storage box - it's long and on wheels. I tip the shopping crates into the box and then push it with my feet into the kitchen.
The Sainsbury's men are always quite impressed with my set up.

Same, except it is Tesco in my case.
