Waitrose delivery - how do you unpack

falalalalal · 14/10/2023 10:19

I always unpack at the door and I've usually got about 3 trays delivered. The delivery person removes each tray as it's unpacked.

I've realised that I'm ending up on my knees at my front door unpacking the bottom tray.

How do others do it? ( I don't want them to come in to my house so prefer doorstep delivery...but not on my knees!)

The delivery person stays at the door and I hand them my bags, which they fill for me. I always ask them to do this and nobody has ever refused.

SquirrelFan · 14/10/2023 11:12

Unpack at the door into laundry baskets. If DH or one of the kids is around, they remove baskets to the kitchen, decant, and bring back for refilling (if we have a lot of shopping). I do usually end up on my knees as I transfer things into the baskets, but I regard this as a good opportunity to 'use it or lose it'! I'm not keen on a stranger coming into my home with the crates.

Growlybear83 · 14/10/2023 11:15

I only use Ocado so don't have recent experience of other supermarkets but are people saying that they have to unpack their shopping wile the driver waits?

panachronic · 14/10/2023 11:16

Always unpack at the door into a massive laundry basket. Waitrose drivers on my route as a whole are very helpful and tend to lift up the crate so that I don't have to bend over to lift stuff out - I don't particularly mind if they don't do this.

Of course. They don't come in bags any more, just loose in a crate, unless it is loose vegetables.

I’ve done exactly the same. Ocado’s bagged deliveries are far more civilised than scrabbling around on the doorstep with Waitrose’s bloody crates.

It’s hardly civilised to waste the world’s resources with unnecessary plastic bags.
I don’t care if the the bags are recycled, they don’t need to be manufactured in the first place

Sparehair · 14/10/2023 11:34

Just take the crate from the driver, carry to kitchen, unpack onto the side, take crate back. Pick up next crate. Then once I’m done and he’s gone I put it into the cupboards/ fridge etc.

ThePoshUns · 14/10/2023 11:43

I used to do it at the door until I realised the driver could probably see straight down my top, now I carry the crate into my kitchen and empty quickly onto the table

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/10/2023 11:46

I’m short and have step stools in every room. I just put one in the doorway - delivery boxes sit on top and I empty them into some shopping bags. Take the bags through to kitchen once he’s gone. No kneeling involved. Easy.

CrunchyCarrot · 14/10/2023 11:50

During the days of Covid the crates would be unpacked outside the door by the delivery driver into my bags left out there. Now, they bring the crates into the kitchen and unload the shopping onto the cleared bench. I don't carry anything due to having chronic back issues.

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 14/10/2023 11:53

I have a teeny tiny kitchen with limited worktop space, so any trays that aren't heavy I take into my bedroom and empty onto the bed, anything that's too heavy to carry I quickly empty the trays out in the hall and put everything into bags for life. Then just stack the trays up in my porch ready for the driver to take back with any substitutes I don't want on top ready to take send back

DragonFly98 · 14/10/2023 11:53

Just use Morrisons or Ocado who use bags.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 14/10/2023 11:56

The Waitrose delivery person asks me where I want the trays and I always ask them to bring through to the kitchen and I unpack them onto the counter. The delivery person usually also unpack onto the counter.

No way would I be unpacking at the bloody door and lugging into the kitchen. In covid I unpacked at the door into a couple of big ikea bags and carried though.

I know the arrival text suggests a doorstep delivery 'where possible' but all of the delivery people have not batted an eyelid when I ask them to bring the crates through.

RingALingADingDong · 14/10/2023 11:58

Waitrose always offer to bring mine to the kitchen

I've never had bags from Morrisons

nobleisle · 14/10/2023 12:01

I carry the box through to the kitchen

Valhalla17 · 14/10/2023 12:04

I bring each box in and tip out on the floor, take out eggs or anything fragile separately. Means I can tip out 3 trays in about 10secs and get the driver gone/unpack in peace! 😂

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 12:14

I struggle massively! I have limited mobility so bending over 85 times just about kills me. I prefer Ocado as they still use bags and will refund bags from your last delivery

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 12:15

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/10/2023 10:22

I carry the box thru to my kitchen & unpack on to work top or directly into cupboard or freezer. Rinse and repeat until all boxes emptied.

& @WYorkshireRose

Whoa you make the driver wait around whilst you put it all away?!?!?! That's not fair at all. You should be emptying the trays and handing them back asap!

This is what we do too.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 12:17

@LargeMeateor Making a scene?!?!?! Hmm

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 12:18

@WaxhamSeals They do for those of us who are disabled and cannot bend over 85 times!!!!

Morrisons don't use bags

ReignOfError · 14/10/2023 12:20

i also carry the trays through to the kitchen and unpack onto the worktop. I’m too old to be scrabbling about on my knees to unpack shopping.

Xenia · 14/10/2023 12:20

When we had 4 children at home, both worked full time and had a cleaner we used to order it to arrive when the cleaner/hosekeeper was here and she put it all away which was very helpful.
