Waitrose delivery - how do you unpack

falalalalal · 14/10/2023 10:19

I always unpack at the door and I've usually got about 3 trays delivered. The delivery person removes each tray as it's unpacked.

I've realised that I'm ending up on my knees at my front door unpacking the bottom tray.

How do others do it? ( I don't want them to come in to my house so prefer doorstep delivery...but not on my knees!)

..house, not hose.,... (I look after my own hosepipes)

I carry the box thru to my kitchen & unpack on to work top or directly into cupboard or freezer. Rinse and repeat until all boxes emptied.

This! With Tesco. But Ocado is the best, they just plonk bags where I want them (doorstep and I run them in), no trays involved. I had years of bagless Tesco deliveries but Ocado bagged is the way forward. They must have special bag carrying training as they carry like 6 per hand at a time. Takes about 30 seconds to deliver my weekly shop 😄 Just give the bags back next time.

When we had 4 children at home, both worked full time and had a cleaner we used to order it to arrive when the cleaner/hosekeeper was here and she put it all away which was very helpful.

Yes just get a housekeeper instead OP! 😂 Classic Xenia, and I absolutely love it honestly, what a queen 😄❤️

I keep the crates and swap them every week so I can unpack at leisure (I have room in garage to store crates).

newnamethanks · 14/10/2023 12:28

I ask the driver to pack into bags for me at the door. Not a problem.

FishPie2 · 14/10/2023 12:38

Thank goodness I do my own shopping and the taxi driver carries all my bags to my kitchen counters. Who on earth wants to empty shopping trays at the front door on hands and knees, certainly not me.

If you're on your knees making a scene they probably feel awkward getting involved

Edited

I've never got down on my knees in front of a delivery person and I'm not about to start now!

Mouldyfoodhelp · 14/10/2023 13:07

The delivery driver takes the crates after I empty them. I used to do it on the floor and now on the table/ counter but I don't get why you're on your knees?

I bent down and picked it up and when putting it on the floor just upturned itConfused

unsync · 14/10/2023 13:24

Ocado deliver in bags still. You return them at the next delivery and get your money back. Gave up with Waitrose, too much stuff near date or rotten fruit and veg.

Ihateslugs · 14/10/2023 13:53

I did not realise so many people do not have their grocery deliveries taken into the house. Obviously during Covid alternative arrangements were necessary but at least then the shopping was put into plastic bags which made it easier.

I have no problem with my Tesco deliveries being carried into my kitchen, they usually only need two trips to get all the trays in. I just place everything onto a worktop as quickly as possible and sort it out later once the driver has left. Usually the driver helps unload once all the trays are in.

I’m not worried about catching Covid, I’m fully vaccinated and my kitchen window is usually open ( as well as the front door while the driver is in the house). I have a laminate floor in the hall and kitchen so am not bothered about dirty shoes. I just want to get my food in the house without too much effort and faffing around!

KingsleyBorder · 14/10/2023 13:59

Why don’t you want them to come into your house? What would you do if you had a sofa delivered?

Poblano · 14/10/2023 14:01

I carry the crate from the door into the kitchen, unload onto the work surface, take the crate back to the door, do the same with the next crate.

TeaAndStrumpets · 14/10/2023 14:04

We have our own plastic crates (v. lightweight) which we take to the front door ready for the delivery, then DH and the delivery chap transfer the groceries into them. We do have a little trolley to wheel them into the kitchen, which I use if I'm by myself, but generally DH lifts them up and carries them in one by one. I didn't know we could borrow crates from Waitrose.

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/10/2023 14:10

I take the crates into the kitchen and unpack

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/10/2023 14:10

Whoa you make the driver wait around whilst you put it all away?!?!?! That's not fair at all. You should be emptying the trays and handing them back asap!

Please read properly. That is not what I said at all. I said I unload onto the worktop or cupboard or freezer. It depends which is fastest. Obviously I don't keep the driver hanging about unnecessarily.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 12:19

Morrisons don't use bags

They do if you order on the green app which is warehouse delivery not if you order on the white app white is store delivery. The majority of the country is the green app.

DragonFly98 · 14/10/2023 14:18

@PabloandGustheGreySquirrels
In the areas that we deliver shopping in carrier bags, carrier bags are charged at 10p each. You can however hand your carrier bags back to the driver for recycling and the charge will be refunded on your final receipt.

RampantIvy · 14/10/2023 14:43

I did not realise so many people do not have their grocery deliveries taken into the house

I don't want someone tramping their dirty shoes on my hall carpet to go through to the kitchen.

SquigglePigs · 14/10/2023 14:47

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/10/2023 14:10

I take the crates into the kitchen and unpack

We do this too. Definitely feels like the quickest option. If we're both home DH carries the crates back and forth and I haul everything out of them onto the side.

skgnome · 14/10/2023 14:51

I just take the crates (one at a time) to the table, empty them there
so crate to table, empty contents, return with empty crate and take the next one in…

C8H10N4O2 · 14/10/2023 15:18

I hate bagless deliveries. Ocado still use bags and bring them to my kitchen, then take back last week's bags for recycling. I like Waitrose and they will bring the crates into the kitchen but I still feel that need to rush to let the driver go and I can't always manage it.

On of my DC lives across the channel and they have returnable crates as part of the service which would be ideal - he gives back the previous week's crates for reusing in the same way I return bags for recycling. (I think there is a notional deposit on the crates which is returned with them, just like Ocado's bag costs).

joan12 · 14/10/2023 15:20

RampantIvy · 14/10/2023 11:05

Same, except it is Tesco in my case.

This!

Jelllytot · 14/10/2023 15:26

I had never done online groceries until recently having a baby and found it a godsend. And I have been thinking the same about my unpacking technique. I end up bending very low at my doorstep to unpack. And sometimes my top gapes too and I am sure the delivery people have seen everything... Not a show at all. Think breastfeeding mum with breast pads in nursing bra, dirty PJ top, stretch marked saggy belly, full works 🫠

PickAChew · 14/10/2023 15:28

Box on stool in the kitchen and put it all on the worktop.
