Fire at Luton airport

Is anyone due to travel from Luton in the next day or so? Just saw news of the fire which looks awful. Heard nothing yet from Ryanair but not sure how responsive they are in this sort of situation...

@RockStarship yes and I'm sorry I said that, I was in shock, I'd only just heard the news and have no idea what's happening. Sorry that I let my shock and emotion take control, I was wrong. But calling me a hag is vile! How dare I be upset, I should be grateful apparently

waterlego · 11/10/2023 12:10

I don’t think anyone called you a hag @nothingevergoesright. Wasn’t it a typo?

The insurance company might be able to organise a hire car while he waits for a replacement, or perhaps he can use yours for a while.

BlowDryRat · 11/10/2023 12:11

@nothingevergoesright people are taking the mick because you were very rude and just a tiny bit OTT in your first and subsequent posts. I'm sorry you've been affected. I hope your DH and DSS get home safely and that the car is either fine or that the insurance company sorts out payment quickly. Maybe step away from this thread now.

P.S. No one called you a hag. It was a typo for Jag and the poster corrected it immediately.

Wow! Let me find my tiny violin for those of you who are travelling soon, you've not lost anything!

My DH and DSS are in Krakow right now, their flight back is at 1pm today, so fuck knows what's gonna happen.

What's worse is my DH parked our jag (which we bought with a gift of money and cannot replace) in the multi-storey car park which has gone up!!!!!

I am furious he took the jag tbh and unfortunately when he phoned me to tell me I blamed him for taking it, so his son went in 'luxury', when the airport is 20 odd miles and he could have taken our little car....what a stupid fucking prat DH is!

Then he parked in the multi-storey, when we've always parked in the outside one as it was 'closer'.

His son needs to be back home in Doncaster for work on Friday and his coach back is tomorrow night, so fuck knows how he's going to get back, not sure how they'll get back from the airport and not sure when they'll be able to fly back..

This has to be fake? The insurance will cover your beloved jag.

nothingevergoesright · 11/10/2023 12:13

@BlowDryRat I'm sorry for the violin comment, I hope your friend gets home safely, I was just in shock and emotional when I posted x

nothingevergoesright · 11/10/2023 12:14

@1stworldissues I expect it will. Can no one understand that I'd literally just heard about it from DH, still have no idea when he and DSS are getting home and was in shock! I'm sure others have said things in shock before.

SharonTheHappySquirrel · 11/10/2023 12:14

Youngmumss · 11/10/2023 09:38

Who cares about your ,,jag,,? Why do you put even accent in the word ,,jag,, and don’t put a car??!
Naaaaah it has to be aJag!!! To show off!

And a £1700 jag at that, must be a shed if it only cost that, hardly a luxury price tag

PuttingDownRoots · 11/10/2023 12:15

In defence of the angry poster... the insurance company may pay out what the car is worth, but used car prices have gone up massively in the last couple of years. Its unlikely to cover the cost of a car of the same quality or reliability.

waterlego · 11/10/2023 12:15

Look @nothingevergoesright. PP did NOT call you a hag.

She said ‘someone with a hag’ which is very obviously a typo which was corrected in the subsequent post.

Hope your loved ones get home safely and you get the car sorted.

I can see why you were upset, @nothingevergoesright
But maybe it's time to step away from the thread now.

nothingevergoesright · 11/10/2023 12:18

@BlowDryRat thank you. I shouldn't have posted what car is was, it's the only nice car we've ever had. I know that sounds stupid! It wasn't scrap, it may have been cheap, but we done it up and spent love and a bit of money on it. We've literally only had other cars that fall apart, as that's what we can afford. It was nice to have a nice thing for once, I'm not sure why people can't understand that.

I was way OTT, I have bipolar and personality disorders and tend to react first and think after. I don't hate DSS, not sure how that was implied. I feel for everyone who's lost a car, for those who breathed in the smoke and those who's flights are affected. I typed first and thought after.

User1748953 · 11/10/2023 12:18

They are hoping to remove some cars that are OK, so PPs car may be alright.

nothingevergoesright · 11/10/2023 12:19

@waterlego thanks, I apologise to the poster, I'm really not with it, can't get hold of DH to know what's going on and am anxious, sorry.

My best friend and her husband were supposed to be on a 2pm flight from Luton to try and say goodbye to his brother who suffered a massive stroke on Monday. I’ll be sure to tell them to get the fuck over themselves because someone Jag may or may not have burnt. Thanks for the perspective 🤗

waterlego · 11/10/2023 12:21

No worries @nothingevergoesright. Hope you get hold of them soon 💐

Goodmirror · 11/10/2023 12:22

Alighttouchonthetiller · 11/10/2023 12:00

Can we be sure it wasn't the clapped out Jag that started it?

🤣🤣🤣

KenAdams · 11/10/2023 12:24

I can't see there's a flight scheduled at 1pm from Krakow that was due to land at Luton?

Oh no that's just so awful, really hope they get there in time. There will be so many similar stories I'm sure 😞

All cars can be replaced, @nothingevergoesright

Even Jags!

It's not your h's fault.

its just so shit isn’t it, I was trying to work out the likelihood of others being in a similar position/who have just as pressing needs to get places and it must be so many, it’s awful. I’m so sad for my friends and crossing everything they can get there.

Sadly I'm sure it's plenty of people in similar positions, everyone just thinks holidays forgetting all the other reasons people need to fly xx

PerspiringElizabeth · 11/10/2023 12:35

@nothingevergoesright probably because you said Dh is always showing off to his ‘fucking son’ - makes it sound like you don’t like him much I guess. But hope they get home safe and the car is fine!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 11/10/2023 12:36

Notonthestairs · 11/10/2023 08:43

Why wouldn't you claim on your car insurance?

Nobody ever wants to claim on their insurance because their premiums go up. It's very stupid - the point of insurance is in case you need it, not to protect your premiums!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 11/10/2023 12:43

I thought the post about the jag was a spoof but having read on, I realise that it was genuine! Oh well. Cars really don't matter, they can be replaced.

That's probably/possibly because the latest state of play, according to some official sources, is no arrivals until 1400 UTC (GMT) which is 1500 UK time.

"EGGW (Luton)
Aerodrome unavailable for arrivals until 1400 UTC due to Fire in the carpark."

(that's from Eurocontrol)
