Fire at Luton airport

TeenagersAngst · 11/10/2023 08:04

Is anyone due to travel from Luton in the next day or so? Just saw news of the fire which looks awful. Heard nothing yet from Ryanair but not sure how responsive they are in this sort of situation...

Come on people - @nothingevergoesright is understandably really upset and worried. I'm sure she can claim on insurance but we all know that its a time consuming process and will no doubt result in huge ongoing premiums. Her DH and DSS are stuck with all the associated costs that entails - another insurance claim. OK "tiny violin" may be a bit over the top but she deserves a bit of compassion surely?

I'm sorry for all of you whose holidays and other flights have been affected, what a horrible thing to wake up to

Everyone affected deserves compassion but she posted specifically to say she has no compassion for those due to fly out over the next few days. She doesn't know anyone's situation and what we are also losing by having our flights affected.

Actually. You don’t know that the car is damaged. But my “tiny violin” will be playing for you as your loss is clearly so much worse than that of anyone else. If you had omitted your tiny violin from the first post then the irritation from posters would have probably changed to sympathy. Oh. And referring to it as the “jag” was also a but ott.

Wow! Let me find my tiny violin for those of you who are travelling soon, you've not lost anything!

My DH and DSS are in Krakow right now, their flight back is at 1pm today, so fuck knows what's gonna happen.

What's worse is my DH parked our jag (which we bought with a gift of money and cannot replace) in the multi-storey car park which has gone up!!!!!

I am furious he took the jag tbh and unfortunately when he phoned me to tell me I blamed him for taking it, so his son went in 'luxury', when the airport is 20 odd miles and he could have taken our little car....what a stupid fucking prat DH is!

Then he parked in the multi-storey, when we've always parked in the outside one as it was 'closer'.

His son needs to be back home in Doncaster for work on Friday and his coach back is tomorrow night, so fuck knows how he's going to get back, not sure how they'll get back from the airport and not sure when they'll be able to fly back..

Was your husband supposed to know the fire was going to happen when he parked the car?

If you're insured then you can replace it. If not it's your own stupid fault. And there are many others who will have lost cars in the mess. There are also 4 people in hospital due to the fire, but don't worry about them your car is MUCH more important obviously. Perhaps if you don't want people attacking your frankly ignorant rant then have a little bit of a realisation that everybody affected by this has lost something. You don't know why people were travelling, they may have lost the last chance to see a loved one before death. All you've lost is a replaceable hunk of metal.

Tinysoxxx · 11/10/2023 09:06

Tbf a second hand jag was always going to be a money pit as they go wrong a lot and parts are a fortune.

Sorry that you are in this situation but maybe console yourself a bit with that.

cheezncrackers · 11/10/2023 09:09

So awful! That car park was only a couple of years old too. Luton Airport has spent millions in the past 5-10 years on infrastructure improvements and that car park was where all the taxis dropped off passengers on the lower level - the system worked really well for the first time ever. It will cause utter chaos again for years now. And all those poor people who will have lost their cars while they were on holiday Sad

bonbon2023 · 11/10/2023 09:19

@nothingevergoesright ah it's a shame he didn't take the other car and park in the same place. Would have got a payout instead of scrapping it. Typical

FrenchandSaunders · 11/10/2023 09:21

Oh not the jag!! Presumably it's insured? So why all the talk about being unable to replace it.

I've far more sympathy for friends stuck in Israel at the moment.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 11/10/2023 09:22

Given the state of the world with wars raging a car park fire where no one died is small potatoes.

TeenagersAngst · 11/10/2023 09:22

Yes, I feel really bad for everyone who has lost their car - I would be absolutely gutted.

It's a shit situation all round. We don't need to be competing for the top pity prize.

Is it never possible to have a discussion on MN without this sort of post? I get that it's not comparable to what's going on elsewhere in the world, but does that mean noone is ever allowed to complain about anything? Ever again? Unless they live in a war zone and are dying?

Wow this thread went south quickly.
Someone with a hag not insured who hates her DDS, and the what about everything else in the world. Of course it’s shit and if that’s the hugest shit in your life of course people are upset with no flights or holiday or stick or no car etc

IAmHeartless · 11/10/2023 09:30

hag? Jag!!!

PennyPinkPineapple · 11/10/2023 09:32

I live about 8 miles from the airport and work near Watford. I've just got home after spending two hours sitting in the traffic it has caused and giving up! It's mayhem.

You do know that there is a capacity to recognise that there are all manner of things happening in the world right now which are deserving of thought?

This “you must think of Of the suffering elsewhere before you dare to bring up something which is less” attitude is really tedious.

Nah, the virtue signallers need a playground y’know.

PennyPinkPineapple · 11/10/2023 09:38

@cheecheezncrackers Agree, it was a really good system! So much better than Stansted Airport.

Youngmumss · 11/10/2023 09:38

Who cares about your ,,jag,,? Why do you put even accent in the word ,,jag,, and don’t put a car??!
Naaaaah it has to be aJag!!! To show off!

OccultOctopus · 11/10/2023 09:39

Wow this thread went south quickly.

They always do, these days. Sadly.

I close more threads than I engage in now, because of the obvious building of a bun fight.

LadyJaneEarlGreyTea · 11/10/2023 10:36

I’m still not getting why people are getting so annoyed about me wondering if an EV started the fire.

I can’t imagine anyone showing off with a £1700 Jag. At that kind of value it’s pretty much scrap.

Yes after years of being a building site the drop off system was working really well.
It's a real blow as I imagine just clearing the site will take quite a long time.

You don't even know if you have lost anything. 'The Jag' might be fine. Even if it's not presumably it's insured

A bit of empathy might be nice for people who's flights have been cancelled who were flying out to visit a sick relative, go to a funeral. I bet they wish their Jag was all they had to worry about

Cant see why the anger towards your poor husband. He was off somewhere with his son. Stands to reason he'd take the nicer car.

Bet he hopes the flights home are delayed indefinitely if you're this charming in rl

LlynTegid · 11/10/2023 10:58

To the person who has heard nothing from Ryanair, not surprised. Mr O'Leary cannot rant at anyone because it is a genuine accident.

Hope the four people taken to hospital make a speedy recovery, such a fire could have injured many more or worse.
