Since we have the thread going ‘son ate my chocs’ I wanted to know what you would call posh chocolates and would you be willing to share them with loved ones if they weren’t gifted to you!

Personally, patchi are my favorite posh chocolates.

Ones that you go into a proper chocolatier to buy or selfridges/fortnums staffed counter.

Ostryga · 09/10/2023 12:08

Richart Splendor box are my all time favourite. And I hate sharing 😂

Something organic and handmade like Fetcha

Luckydog7 · 09/10/2023 12:14

I know they are not anymore but I love me some Ferrero Roshe. Posh in the 90s maybe...

Lindt and Sprungli confectionery on paradeplatz in Zürich. It’s the best

HippeePrincess · 09/10/2023 12:14

I’d call them my chocolates, it’d depend how nice they were and how many in the box before I offered to share them.

ShanghaiDiva · 09/10/2023 12:16

Mary Belgian chocolates

spitefulandbadgrammar · 09/10/2023 12:16

Pierre Hermé, Audrey’s. Anything where it costs a lot to buy a very very small amount. Hotel Chocolat is just a slightly more upmarket Thornton’s, not posh at all!

At least you are honest. You know what they say sharing is caring 😜

Two things I don't share: my men & my chocolate!

Leonidas.

Leonidas. I love them.

DH knows he's very lucky if I share.

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 09/10/2023 12:20

I love milk chocolate and I don't think that's ever considered properly posh in the world of chocolatiers.

Cinnamonspice1 · 09/10/2023 12:21

Interesting, many brands I’ve never heard about or tried, I’m not posh after all.

L'Artisan du chocolate.

I have fond reminiscences of the days they used to sell misshapes on their stall at Borough, so you got some slightly imperfect deliciousness for less than insane prices...

Fulshaw · 09/10/2023 12:24

I tend to equate posh chocolate with dark chocolate so I don’t really like it.

Is there much posh milk chocolate about?

TomatoSandwiches · 09/10/2023 12:25

Charbonnel et Walker.

Hbh17 · 09/10/2023 12:25

I wouldn't use that description for any product, as "posh" is actually considered to be a rather downmarket word.

I suppose Leonidas or Godiva might be considered top end, as would something that's not a national brand, but anything you can buy in a supermarket or from a high street store would not be.

By whom is 'posh' considered a rather downmarket word? Perhaps the OP comes from the lower middle class, rather than the echelons who tend to use 'smart' where 'posh' might be used further down the class ladder?

Or maybe she's a duchess who gets bored by U/non-U shibboleths?

Panicmode1 · 09/10/2023 12:31

I adore Bendicks Bittermints, which aren't really smart (or "posh" if you insist 😉) and I share them very reluctantly. My SIL lives in Brussels and buys us chocolate from chocolate 'ateliers' there that cost a fortune and it is lovely of her to gift them, but I'm not sure they are worth the money. (I used to live in Brussels and would equate Leonidas with being slightly more expensive than Hotel Chocolat chocs and not that special..Ditto Lindt which you can buy in supermarkets.)

So I guess what this thread will show, is that everyone's idea of "posh" will vary as much as tastes and experiences do! 🤣

Bendicks Bittermints were a favourite of our former Queen Elizabeth II.

Handmade from specialist chocolatiers. Not ones you can buy in a supermarket.

I don’t share chocolate with anyone (unless they contain nuts or liquor fillings which I don’t like).
