Since we have the thread going ‘son ate my chocs’ I wanted to know what you would call posh chocolates and would you be willing to share them with loved ones if they weren’t gifted to you!

Personally, patchi are my favorite posh chocolates.

@Vegemiteandhoneyontoast glad to hear I'm not alone in my pernickitness! I totally understand making your own sausages, there's only one brand I will eat.

I just don't see the point of eating something that's 'almost right' but not quite there. I'd rather go without.

Absolutely, they have to be right and our snorkers are right too, in fact they're damned fine. I'm sure your chocolate is as well.

Chapon in Paris. A very special treat for my birthday in 2019. I shared a few with my DH but otherwise they were never up for grabs.

Plexie · 09/10/2023 13:32

I think it's more about whether certain chocolates are expensive, not posh.

Chocolates I would never share:

Charbonnel et Walker (but I like violet and rose creams, so little risk of someone else wanting them).

Prestat 'Jewel' selection boxes (only ever had a small one but at £15 a box I'd keep them to myself).

I'd share Thornton's, Lily O'Briens etc. Don't consider them posh or expensive.

Charbonnel et walker or Prestat. Super fancy.

Bendicks Bittermints are medium posh as they are still expensive for each one.

Non-posh is things like Cadburys Roses or Black Magic. I don't think of Hotel Chocolat as posh really, because I don't like it. Thorntons also not posh.

WoollyBat · 09/10/2023 13:33

A friend bought me a box of Prestat when I was in hospital after C-section and and told me to hide them from visitors. Best present ever!

oops

Justonedayatatime11 · 09/10/2023 13:38

Audreys. Definitely do not share!

UrsulaBelle · 09/10/2023 13:40

Not posh, Milk Tray, Matchmakers, Black Magic, Terry's All Gold, After Eights.
Used to consider posh as a child, Thorntons.
Now similar to Thorntons, Lily O'Briens Hotel Chocolate etc
Properly posh, ones I can't afford!

Pierre Hermé, Audrey’s. Anything where it costs a lot to buy a very very small amount. Hotel Chocolat is just a slightly more upmarket Thornton’s, not posh at all!

Audrey's make the ones at Fortnums. Definitely posh!

Cazzovuoi · 09/10/2023 13:48

Cailler (Swiss) - anything they make I will eat except the one with raisins in it. YUCK!

Also love Venchi (Italian) and Laderach (also Swiss).

Fireisland · 09/10/2023 13:49

Kinnerton

Luckingfovely · 09/10/2023 13:53

Prestat are the ultimate treat.

Roccoco is pretty good.

Lindt & Sprungli is good - in Switzerland!

And Baci always makes me happy!

Sssudio · 09/10/2023 13:55

I love l'artisan de chocolat caramels- but still wouldn't say they're 'posh'

Alain Ducasse, Paul A Young, William Curley - they're all super high end which I guess is what you're asking about?

Hotel Chocolat is not - perfectly fine middle of the road chocolate but not 'posh'

Plexie · 09/10/2023 13:55

I bought a selection from Audrey's when I was in Brighton, after seeing people rave about them on here. But having eaten them, I didn't rate them very highly.

Also Rococo chocolates - lovely packaging but I didn't think the chocolates themselves were good. I don't think I've ever seen anyone on MN recommend them. [Edited to say: Oops, just seen a PP has recommended them.]

But it's all down to personal preference.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/10/2023 13:55

Booja-booja and Bendicks are my 'posh' chocs. 💕

I'm going to investigate others' favourites now!

Tempnamechng · 09/10/2023 13:57

Anything Thornton's Continental upwards, something you wouldn't buy for yourself. My 15yo son is allowed to help himself though, half of the enjoyment of having nice chocolates is enjoying them with the family.

SomeCatFromJapan · 09/10/2023 14:01

My favourites (I get them as birthday/Xmas presents) are Bare Bones which is a local artisan chocolatier. At around six quid a bar they're a treat, but the taste and quality are remarkable.

jannier · 09/10/2023 14:02

If you buy something or receive a gift it's up to you if you share...but rude if you eat in front of others without offering....just like you would teach a child.

funbags3 · 09/10/2023 14:06

I never have to share my chocolate as my favourite is a Bounty.

therealcookiemonster · 09/10/2023 14:08

I like godiva and valhorna, but they are not exactly posh.

I guess hand made chocs from a chocolatier could be considered 'posh'... not selfridges etc. but the little boutiques...

sharing you say? chocs? Hahaha not in a month of Sundays. you touch. you die.

but I will happily share in other people's chocs

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 09/10/2023 12:08

Hotel chocolat
I share my chocs

I think the OP of the other thread was miffed because the don had actually opened the chocs that he had ostensibly bought her for her birthday. Which was very rude. She didn't say she wouldn't share them!

BareBelliedSneetch · 09/10/2023 14:10

Läderach. And I’ll share if I like you. A lot.
