Since we have the thread going ‘son ate my chocs’ I wanted to know what you would call posh chocolates and would you be willing to share them with loved ones if they weren’t gifted to you!

Personally, patchi are my favorite posh chocolates.

From Belgium, thankfully dp is there every 6 weeks or so and brings me a big box, he's on his way currently so looking forward to Thursday night on his return!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 09/10/2023 16:14

Lindt or hotel chocolat is posh to me and yes I would happily share them( as long as they didn't take my favourite!)

gotomomo · 09/10/2023 16:16

@WinterDeWinter

Ooo orange matchmakers, love them! Ok not as nice as Belgian chocolates from the proper chocolatier in Brussels but a close second Grin

Leonidas.

Ditto, especially their white Manon. Yes I share, begrudgingly....

AutumnAuntie · 09/10/2023 16:35

I consider anything above dairy milk/quality streets level to be posh.

This whole thread feels deliberately set up to allow mumsnetters to show off their wealth.

On any other forum I wouldn't feel that way but here on Mumsnet it feels very much like opening the floor up to stealth boasts.

🤣🤣🤣 yes.
What I actually wanted to reply is wouldn't thank you for fancy chocolate just get me a galaxy please and give me the change

ErinAndTonic · 09/10/2023 17:03

To me it's proper chocolate bon bons/bars etc with coloured cocoa butter shells. I did a course to make my own as they are obscenely priced otherwise.

These were my first dabble at Easter eggs

Charbonnel et walker

Cumbrianlife · 09/10/2023 17:09

I was working as a stugent chef in France and visited Valrhona's shop in Tain-l'Hermitage. It was like the scene in Love Actually when he buys the necklace (how could he cheat on Emma Thompson!) Just buying a tiny tin of chocolate almonds for a friend was an event and felt very posh. It involved several tastings, beautiful packaging and extra chocolates aa samples placed in the bag.
I remember it costing around £30, a lot of money circa 1990.
I don't like chocolate.

Pierre Hermé, Audrey’s. Anything where it costs a lot to buy a very very small amount. Hotel Chocolat is just a slightly more upmarket Thornton’s, not posh at all!

Hotel Chocolat is way more expensive and better quality than Thorntons!

God, they're amazing.

ErinAndTonic · 09/10/2023 17:18

Thank you 😊 They were a little lockdown activity I got into, it's quite good fun, but messy AF 😅

I'd prefer the scoffing part, myself 😂

itsmyp4rty · 09/10/2023 17:27

I don't like Hotel du Chocolat at all, I'm amazed that they are popular. I agree they're not much up from Thornton's, just more overpriced.

Posh for me are L'Artisan du Chocolat, and they're the best I've tasted.

Charbonnel et Walker.

Yesssssssss ❤️

PamFritters · 09/10/2023 17:36

Another vote for Chococo! Handmade and ethical, and local (to me at least).

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/10/2023 17:50

Mary’s
Pierre Marcolini
Daskalides
Neuhaus
Charbonnel et Walker
Fortnums.

Charbonnel et Walker.

These
and Godiva.

I tasted the Mary Belgian chocolates.
You can keep them and the above.

I prefer Leonidas, Lindor red and Cadbury's made in Dublin - the clue to where the Cadbury's bar is made is on the bar.
In very tiny letters.
If it has OCO on it, it is made in Dublin.
Their Twirls are still lovely.

ActDottie · 09/10/2023 17:59

Tbh anything that’s in the fancier chocolate section in the supermarket. I only ever buy chocolate bars so anything that is in a box is fancy to me.

Arniesleftleg · 09/10/2023 18:12

Hotel Chocolate, Lily O'Briens, Lindt, anything really 🤣

whatausername · 09/10/2023 18:15

I feel like "posh" chocolates are less about the chocolate (a thin shell to hold the insides) and more about the filling.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/10/2023 18:16

Henri le Roux Paris (I get a delivery for Christmas)

Bchocolates Aldeburgh - salted honey chocolates are really fabulous

Audrey supply Fortnums - I had them at Christmas last year and they were a good enough mass market chocolate

I think a lot of the ones named are really mass market to me Blush

Smellslikesummer · 09/10/2023 18:17

At the very least not from a supermarket (and not Hotel Chocolat).
I like Venchi or Maison du Chocolat

DomPom47 · 09/10/2023 18:33

Booja-Booja chocolates are delicious!
