Since we have the thread going ‘son ate my chocs’ I wanted to know what you would call posh chocolates and would you be willing to share them with loved ones if they weren’t gifted to you!

Personally, patchi are my favorite posh chocolates.

I found that when it comes to chocolate I'm cheap. I hate the butteryness of expensive truffles, the bitterness of dark choc and even the "natural flavours" of a lot of posh chocs.
Milka (the huge duty free specials) and Ghirardelli (bring home from US holidays) are as posh as I get. And yes, I share.

Waystation · 09/10/2023 12:55

My lovely SIL lives in Brussels and brings me assorted artisan chocolates but being honest I am much happier with a bar of cadbury dairy milk - never found a “upmarket/posh” chocolate to compare (before someone informs me about the change since the takeover - I know but it’s still my fave)

edited to say I never share

Royce chocolate or Maison Chocolat

I love venchi chocolates. They taste delicious, they aren't too expensive and they have the prettiest packaging

Chemenger · 09/10/2023 12:58

I generally ask for rose or violet creams. Firstly because I love them and secondly because nobody else likes them so I don’t have to share.

usernother · 09/10/2023 12:59

Charbonnel and Walker. I don't share them.

PosterBoy · 09/10/2023 12:59

The only ones I wouldn't happily share would be ones that come from an individual or small scale chocolatier if that's even a word.

Everything else, meh, you can just easily buy another box at the shops.

thegreylady · 09/10/2023 13:01

My posh chocolates were brought as a gift from Belgium for Christmas one year. There were 3 layers in a sort of drawer shaped box. There were several young adults staying that year and I gritted my teeth and handed them round…once then put them away in the kitchen . I actually said I would pass them round again on Boxing Day as they were so special. Come Boxing Day morning I found an empty box on the living room floor! Everyone was in bed. I was upset and asked why/who etc. I eventually found the culprit was my step daughter’s boyfriend who had staye up watching tv, was looking for snacks and despite having been gifted a selection box decided my chocolates were nicer! I wish I could find them again but don’t know the name. I have the empty box somewhere still .

Kaill · 09/10/2023 13:03

If it’s more than £1.50 per chocolate I would call that posh. Cheaper than that, probably not.

Westfacing · 09/10/2023 13:04

Rococo - I try not to share!

Zola1 · 09/10/2023 13:04

The word chocs gives me the ick

Honeyandwine · 09/10/2023 13:06

Hotel chocolate and I won't share these. I share most chocolates but not 'posh' ones. My family know this.

Scuttlering · 09/10/2023 13:06

I wouldn't call any chocolate posh. I'd call it good quality handmade. Like Braemar chocolate.

Southwest12 · 09/10/2023 13:08

I loved Paul A Young in London but he closed his shop in July which is a real shame. Now living in Liverpool and it's RS Fine Chocolates in Southport, all made by hand in the shop. A lovely selection of flavours and all sorts of chocolate shaped gifts

howaboutchocolate · 09/10/2023 13:09

My username suggests that I share my chocolates, but I do not!

Posh for me is anything made by a named chocolatier who has one or maybe two small shops.

I like other chocolates too, hotel chocolat, Leonidas etc are nice, but they're not posh they're national chains!

Thisismynewusername1 · 09/10/2023 13:12

HippeePrincess · 09/10/2023 12:14

I’d call them my chocolates, it’d depend how nice they were and how many in the box before I offered to share them.

This.

it doesn’t really matter if it’s “posh” or not. If it’s a small box and particular favourites not a chance, and that probably includes maltesers 😂

if it’s a big box or something such as Thorntons which i don’t particularly like them so I’d have a couple of favourites then let everyone else dive in.

willingtolearn · 09/10/2023 13:12

@thegreylady I would have been furious, and equally upset. Did they recompense you in any way?

betsyannegrey · 09/10/2023 13:16

I am very fussy about chocolate, so much so that I 'make' my own. I buy artisan chocolate from a local deli, 85% dark and 40% milk which I melt and mix in a particular proportion to get it exactly the way I like it😂 I then set it in moulds.

Ridiculous I know!

Not ridiculous at all. Hats off to you for doing it yourself! We make our own sausages for the same reason, so they're exactly as we like them.

I know they are not anymore but I love me some Ferrero Roshe. Posh in the 90s maybe...

I didn’t even realise these weren’t posh until my friend bought some for herself on a weekend and I asked whose birthday it was lol.

I don’t think you can beat them though.

Ooh, live just a few min away, must try it!
I love Lindt and Milka but I think Hotel Chocolat is overrated and not even that nice.

IStandWithSycamoreGap · 09/10/2023 13:22

Charbonnel et Walker

Good quality hand made chocs

betsyannegrey · 09/10/2023 13:24

@Vegemiteandhoneyontoast glad to hear I'm not alone in my pernickitness! I totally understand making your own sausages, there's only one brand I will eat.

I just don't see the point of eating something that's 'almost right' but not quite there. I'd rather go without.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 09/10/2023 13:25

Zola1 · 09/10/2023 13:04

The word chocs gives me the ick

Agreed. Posh chocs, hot choc. The sweet equivalent to my savoury ick word, veg.

Bamboobars · 09/10/2023 13:25

I'd call them chocolates. And never, ever chocs
