Does else’s dog get a Sunday roast?

Our DDogs are thrilled Autumn has come because that means dinner comes a bit late on Sundays. But when it does come, it’s the best dinner of all!
Today their bowls were full of roast venison, carrots, mash, broccoli and gravy. Then a bit of crumble and custard for pudding.
They are now sharing the sofa watching the Strictly dance off and snoring away.
Just to reassure anyone with dogs with sensitive dietary needs, I have two Labradors, there is no food stuff, or indeed non food stuff, they won’t happily guzzle down and digest. And they both work as gundogs, so make me envious with how easily they stay slim.

Any one else have happy dogs full of Sunday dinner this evening?

My ddog had rump steak tonight, but it wasn’t from a roast. Does that count?

Shhh… don’t tell my Labradors. They didn’t know rump steak is an option for dogs. You have a lucky hound!

My girl loves a Sunday night roast, never tried her with pudding though 😱

DDog gets some little bits of meat off the Roast, and will also get some on Monday when we finish off the leftovers. He recognises the dish we put the leftovers in and gets very excited when we have jacket potatoes because he knows he gets some extras. He loves Sundays and Mondays when we have roasts 😀

UndercoverCop · 08/10/2023 21:15

My parents lab always had a roast, just the meat and veg though. He loved it.

wetotter · 08/10/2023 21:16

DDog has yet to have the left-overs of a roast chicken, but they will be coming her way, cold, tomorrow
I need to strip off all the remaining meat for human consumption, then she'll get all the gubbins

Photographsandmemories · 08/10/2023 21:16

Our dog has a plateful of roast and veg and a hint of gravy too... but carefully spits out any peas and broccoli.

Wouldn't give pudding honestly for the sake of her teeth.

stripeyknitwear · 08/10/2023 21:17

Another greedy Labrador here who loves her roasts! And terrier who also enjoys a smaller portion Smile

Ours’ don’t normally get pudding, but they do love a bit of custard. DboyDog was out training all morning and was fab, so I reckon he deserved it.

My pug has a Sunday dinner unless it is a non dog friendly meal (we had chilli tonight so he was out of luck)
He is a reasonable weight for a pug but we don’t give him pudding (my mum does give him tiny bits of cake on occasion)
If we have roast or similar he gets bits of meat and chopped up veg, no gravy as it has onion in. He seems to know when he will be getting a bowl full he practically pirouettes while waiting…

StarDolphins · 08/10/2023 21:19

Ahh this is lovely! Just how they should be treated.

My dog is a real gut rot Gary so if I give him anything other than his chicken & burns, it’s not pretty. He does get bits of cooked chicken throughout the day as a treat & salmon skin to nice a week too.

However, on Christmas Day, he gets a tiny Xmas dinner & he loves it! Pays for it the next day though!

My mums dog got pot noodle, Philadelphia, coffee & choc eclair most days & only just died at 16 years old!

Mum2jenny · 08/10/2023 21:19

The only reason ddog got the rump steak was that my dh didn’t want to eat it. It’s not that she’s a spoilt little hound (ok, she is!!)

Dizzydeers · 08/10/2023 21:22

My dog loves a roast but only eats the meat, vegetables do not pass her lips!

LuckyCharm9 · 08/10/2023 21:22

Ahh this makes me miss our family dog. We had a gorgeous blue staff and her favourite day was Sunday. She used to love her roast dinners.
After lunch, I’d take her for a big walk and then she would snooze on her chair for hours, just full and content.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 08/10/2023 21:23

Not tonight, he had crispy chicken fajitas but last week he had a full English for breakfast and a roast dinner 😂. He’s also a skinny lab with the world’s longest legs, I’m very jealous!

WhateverMate · 08/10/2023 21:23

My two dogs and the cat get some Sunday roast meat.

I won't feed them the other stuff because my old dogs developed sore/itchy skin patches and the vet blamed it on all the dinner leftovers.

Dinner is at 3pm on a Sunday and my cat meows relentlessly from about 1.30pm because he can smell it cooking 😳

moanymandy · 08/10/2023 21:27

Our DDog also loves his Sunday roast. Tonight he had roast beef, roast potato, carrots broccoli peas and a Yorkshire pud. Smile

WithIcePlease · 08/10/2023 21:29

My DDog had Sunday roast too when she was with me and DSis dogs always had them too. Same with Christmas dinner of course 😊
Lucky dog! @Idratherbepaddleboarding😊😊

Aposterhasnoname · 08/10/2023 21:33

Aww, our beast loved his Sunday roast. Beef or chicken, with plenty of veg, it didn’t touch the sides. Hes been gone six years now. Still miss his big hairy face every single day.

LabradorLoveSausages · 08/10/2023 21:34

Oh yes, Christmas dinner is a favourite here. Starting with a smoked salmon blini, then the goose/beef and roasties, and some cheese to finish. But can you imagine the disappointment when the Christmas pudding, full of doggy poorly fruits and never to pass their hungry little lips, comes out?

FoxClocks · 08/10/2023 21:37

Mine does but she only likes meat and would spit out any yukky vegetables! She does love cake or a bit of cheese for dessert.

Yes ddog gets Sunday roast but no gravy as it upsets her stomach. She had beef, roast potato, swede, carrots and cabbage today. She also gets a Saturday sausage on the weeks I cook a breakfast.

@WithIcePlease, he doesn’t consider himself lucky, he thinks he’s very hard down to that he doesn’t get all of the food. I genuinely think he’d eat til he popped if left to his own devices.
