Vinted - is this a common thing with sellers?

I purchase quite a few things on Vinted and overall have had good experiences with sellers.

However, I have noticed quite a common occurrence and not sure if this is a common thing or not but it kind of peeves me off.

I will purchase the item and when it arrives the seller has added in a ‘freebie’ or two.

Last month I purchased a Next polo shirt for dh and they had thrown in 2 new but very cheap looking t shirts. Not only did they not fit dh but he doesn’t wear t shirts and they were of such poor quality they were almost see through.

Last winter I purchased a coat and the seller ‘popped’ in a ghastly silk-effect scarf, in a colour I’d never wear.

Yesterday I bought a lovely pair of Zara wide legged trousers, the seller was very helpful and has added a photo of the tracking number but then added ‘I have thrown in a pair of leggings for you’ - nice of her but I didn’t ask for a pair of leggings, I don’t wear leggings, I don’t want any leggings lol!

I don’t need any extra clutter and now I’ll have to either put them in a clothing bank or hold onto them until a charity bag comes through the door.

I know it’s not the end of the world and they think they are doing something nice but from my angle it’s just crap that I have to then get rid of my end.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Never!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/10/2023 19:50

Gosh I’d hate that. I’ve never experienced that and I’ve been buying and selling for a while.

vincettenoir · 07/10/2023 19:50

Only once. I bought a bundle of kids clothes and there was a bonus pair of sandals which were actually perfect for a wedding we were going to.

Not many of us have room for lots of extra clutter at home so I get why you’re not over the moon about this but as you say it’s just as case of moving this stuff on through a doorstep charity bag.

Nope I both buys and sell on vinted and have never had that or done that

Handcreamqueen · 07/10/2023 19:57

Its weird as I’ve been buying off Vinted for ages but these freebies have all occurred this year, how strange!

I buy loads on Vinted and have never had this!

OldTinHat · 08/10/2023 13:45

I've never had this either! How strange!

evtheria · 08/10/2023 13:48

I've never had a freebie off eBay or vinted, and those kinds of items would annoy me.

I have, however, added a perfume sample (the tiny free ones you get) when someone bought a nearly full bottle of fragrance off me. It was similar in notes, which is why I put it in, and I got a nice private message off the recipient thanking me for it.

BananaSlug · 08/10/2023 13:49

I buy on there a lot and have never had this happen.

RigorMortisRadio · 08/10/2023 13:49

This has just happened to me for the first time!

Received the dress I ordered plus a book 'as a freebie', I don't need more books to clutter my house.

zurala · 08/10/2023 13:53

I've read people saying they do this as they think it's nice. I think it's just offloading their clutter and I wouldn't want it.
Maybe when buying you could send a message to say "no extras please"?

bubblicious47 · 08/10/2023 13:56

I bought a leather jacket. In the packaging there was some Christian literature 🤷🏼‍♀️

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/10/2023 14:04

There was a really similar thread about this recently. Very strange to include items the buyer hasn't actually bought.

I sell on vinted and never done that. Thats odd

CesareBorgia · 08/10/2023 14:07

I once got an extra skirt thrown in on an eBay purchase - I was pleased as it was a nice skirt!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/10/2023 14:08

I wonder if the sellers are using Vinted to run a business and trying to drive reviews and repeat business in some way.

UsernamenotavailableBob · 08/10/2023 14:09

I'd hate that but I suspect people are doing it because they want to be rid of clutter and it's easier to post it to you than take it to a charity shop

I think this is probably it but it certainly didn't work with me because I left a worse review because of it.

yarnwitch · 08/10/2023 14:12

I've never had this. I think I had a sweet once from an eBay seller but that's it!

asterel · 08/10/2023 14:13

I’ve sometimes had that when buying children’s clothes on eBay. Mostly I don’t mind it, but we have lots of places nearby to recycle any unwanted clothing. I definitely can understand it’s annoying if you don’t want extra clutter!

KevinDeBrioche · 08/10/2023 14:13

That’s so weird! I sell on Vinted and would never do that.

Incognito2023 · 08/10/2023 14:15

I don’t buy clothes from Vinted, but throwing in some freebie extras is a very common thing with buying crafting items online - both new and 2nd hand. Has been for years

Lyricallie · 08/10/2023 14:18

I buy a decent amount and have never had this. I’m also glad I haven’t, just offloading clutter to others.

Mkgmum · 08/10/2023 14:38

This has happened to me twice, with baby clothes people have put a few extras in. The first time it was a lovely blanket and hat, that were brand new or at least looked it. Second time it was used vests and quite a few extra cardigans in a bundle, still appreciate the gesture but I don't have a lot of storage so it's something I hope doesn't happen much in future. Plus I don't drive and the nearest clothes bank is a pain to get to so I understand why it would be annoying

This would get a bad review from me! Wow.
