Vinted - is this a common thing with sellers?

I purchase quite a few things on Vinted and overall have had good experiences with sellers.

However, I have noticed quite a common occurrence and not sure if this is a common thing or not but it kind of peeves me off.

I will purchase the item and when it arrives the seller has added in a ‘freebie’ or two.

Last month I purchased a Next polo shirt for dh and they had thrown in 2 new but very cheap looking t shirts. Not only did they not fit dh but he doesn’t wear t shirts and they were of such poor quality they were almost see through.

Last winter I purchased a coat and the seller ‘popped’ in a ghastly silk-effect scarf, in a colour I’d never wear.

Yesterday I bought a lovely pair of Zara wide legged trousers, the seller was very helpful and has added a photo of the tracking number but then added ‘I have thrown in a pair of leggings for you’ - nice of her but I didn’t ask for a pair of leggings, I don’t wear leggings, I don’t want any leggings lol!

I don’t need any extra clutter and now I’ll have to either put them in a clothing bank or hold onto them until a charity bag comes through the door.

I know it’s not the end of the world and they think they are doing something nice but from my angle it’s just crap that I have to then get rid of my end.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve had this but I’ve only bought baby stuff on Vinted so they throw in a couple of baby grows or something which I’m grateful for. But for adult clothes I’d be annoyed at getting extra stuff.

My pet hate is if I favourite something on Vinted straight away I get the seller messaging me saying “I can post Monday if you buy it” or “I’ll sell it for £7” or “go on make me an offer” it just annoys me. Just because I’ve favourited something doesn’t mean I’m going to buy it, it just means I want to have a think about it while I browse other things that I may prefer.

I sell on Vinted and there was one occasion I accidentally added a infants top to her order that was meant for someone else. I only realised after I posted it when I hadn’t posted the other order so I messaged to let her know it was a mistake but to keep it (it was lovely and same size as she had ordered) as it was less hassle and for her to send it back! She was happy with that, but it was 100% an accident as I lost another sale technically!

I always put some sweets in with things I sell on eBay/Vinted etc. I've had quite a lot of messages from buyers saying thank you. Nothing special, just like the mini packs of Haribo or a couple of lollipops.

Wanderinghome · 08/10/2023 18:02

As a seller I've only ever done this when I've spoken to the buyer and sent them photos first. I wouldn't ever just put them in without asking.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 08/10/2023 18:08

I wouldn’t appreciate sweets. Or freebies.

I did get some weird shit from an Etsy order once. The actual thing I bought was much smaller than I’d thought. Plus Loads of little envelopes of stickers and earrings and shit. I did message to say I didn’t want it. I probably was being miserable because I felt ripped off by the actual item.

I have done it in the past on eBay by adding a pair of (clean) slippers in the same size when selling dd’s shoes once or twice. Random stuff, no. No one has ever sent me anything extra.

OneFrenchEgg · 08/10/2023 20:04

I think it's a bit odd. I know people put stickers in or sweets and I would just buy my own sweets if i wanted any . I definitely don't want to guess how old any random edible stuff is.

I have received the following: A Dior lipstick, A Calvin Klein lipstick and a bottle of YSL Rive Gauche. The Dior lipstick was brand new but obviously a tester, and the CK lipstick also brand new and never opened. The perfume wasn't quite full. These came from different sellers with purchases that weren't particularly expensive and were from EBay not Vinted. I love, them all!

Smellslikesummer But why would I want to put something like an item of clothing into a landfill site, especially something I never wanted to receive in the first place? Imo, it’s just offloading crap you can’t get rid of yourself.

I get that all the time, I know they are eager to sell but it drives me insane.

I have had little additional crystals or jewellery items plus other small things and the odd t shirt. I am grateful and pleased with the thought, and always thank the seller. Really don't get the problem with this, if I don't want the item one of my friends will or I put it on the "free, please take" table at work
