Vinted - is this a common thing with sellers?

I purchase quite a few things on Vinted and overall have had good experiences with sellers.

However, I have noticed quite a common occurrence and not sure if this is a common thing or not but it kind of peeves me off.

I will purchase the item and when it arrives the seller has added in a ‘freebie’ or two.

Last month I purchased a Next polo shirt for dh and they had thrown in 2 new but very cheap looking t shirts. Not only did they not fit dh but he doesn’t wear t shirts and they were of such poor quality they were almost see through.

Last winter I purchased a coat and the seller ‘popped’ in a ghastly silk-effect scarf, in a colour I’d never wear.

Yesterday I bought a lovely pair of Zara wide legged trousers, the seller was very helpful and has added a photo of the tracking number but then added ‘I have thrown in a pair of leggings for you’ - nice of her but I didn’t ask for a pair of leggings, I don’t wear leggings, I don’t want any leggings lol!

I don’t need any extra clutter and now I’ll have to either put them in a clothing bank or hold onto them until a charity bag comes through the door.

I know it’s not the end of the world and they think they are doing something nice but from my angle it’s just crap that I have to then get rid of my end.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I always put a little pack of Haribo in my Vinted parcels and a ‘thank you for buying’ note, but I agree that sending on unrequested extra clothes etc is odd and can completely see you don’t want them.

(Now starting to question my Haribo habit in light of that! 😳 - but they are consumable and I have had some lovely reviews mentioning them, so hopefully not a nuisance.)

Im vegan so the Haribo would be wasted on me. I don't want extra things when I buy stuff, the only exception is make up and skincare samples direct from the brand.

Never happened to me...

You can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time.

@GrowUpWoman if you included a pack of haribo and a thank you note I would consider that a lovely gesture.

AbbeyGailsParty · 08/10/2023 15:16

Never had a freebie thrown in on Vinted or EBay. Wouldn’t upset me if I did, if it’s not for me I’ll just drop it at a charity shop or clothes bank.

shinny · 08/10/2023 15:19

I got a tiny sample perfume from a seller recently and I liked the gesture.
I also received a pair of shoes that were mailed in a cornflakes box and the lady who gave them to me was in fits of laughter. No stray cornflakes inside thankfully!

I suppose I buy stuff from the type of sellers who wouldn't necessarily have any 'tat' they want to get rid of

CosyCoffee · 08/10/2023 15:22

No I've never experienced this and I wouldn't like it, I've got enough tat I don't need.

It's bad enough when sellers send clothes drenched in Febreeze Envy

Chevrom192 · 08/10/2023 15:43

I've never had a freebie myself but I was selling some of DS's clothes and had some of his t shirts that I just wanted rid of. When someone bought his jogging bottoms I asked if they'd like the t shirts for free and they said yes please.

Smellslikesummer · 08/10/2023 15:54

I always enjoy receiving goodies in my Vinted parcels! What is the problem if you don’t want the extra item, just throw it away if you can’t be bothered dropping it off at a charity shop.

KeepScrapingBy · 08/10/2023 16:16

I buy quite a lot on vinted but never had extras. If I did I would assume it was a mistake and contact the seller and ask them if they meant to send it?

I suppose if it's ethical reasons like using again etc you don't want extra stuff you have to chuck?

Oddly enough I bought some perfume on Vinted the other day and when it came it was packed in a little wash bag and there was a small tube of cliniquee face wash and a kit kat - I was really pleased.

About 13 years ago I bid on a summer dress for DD on ebay and when it came the parcel was huge!! There were 7 dresses and the seller had put in a note saying she simply didn't have time to sell them so I could either keep them, sell them or put them in a charity shop They were all beautiful - Boden, M&S, Monsoon and a couple of designer labels as well. DD wore them all summer and some of them for a few years as she grew and they moved from nearly ankle length to mini skirt!! Best £2.45 plus postage I ever spent Grin

Violinist64 · 08/10/2023 17:10

The only time I had it was when I bought a vintage handbag on ebay. The seller had included a lucky £2 coin. Very lucky for me.

Namechangenamechanged · 08/10/2023 17:11

I bought some shoes and the seller included a matching bag. I was delighted!

MerryMarigold · 08/10/2023 17:12

I've only ever had a free herbal tea bag! (I don't drink herbal tea but at least I have friends who do!).

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 08/10/2023 17:14

When I was selling some children’s ski base layers I added in a couple of pairs of ski socks into each package.
The buyers were pleased, or polite!

Doggymummar · 08/10/2023 17:17

I got a coat from eBay the other day and in the pocket was a pair of dirty socks. The dog enjoyed ripping them to shreds!

moominzoomin · 08/10/2023 17:25

I used to do this when I was giving stuff away on our local "before it goes the tip/charity shop" Facebook group but it would always be similar items (IMO).

But now I have discovered Vinted I would NEVER. Mostly because I could probably earn another £1 for said free item 😃

I am pretty new to Vinted and feel sick thinking of all the clothes I have given away over the last 3 years.

I hate, hate, hate haribo in all its forms. If you sent any to me I would not buy from you again

Dracarys1 · 08/10/2023 17:35

I did this once but it was a pair of baby trousers in a certain design and after they were purchased I found the matching mittens in the same fabric so rather than contact them I just threw them in as well. To just stick in random stuff is weird and a bit rude!

RinklyRomaine · 08/10/2023 17:37

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. A small, dark coloured cropped jumper arrived with two massive, oversized white shirts. I messaged the seller and she sent me some smiley bollox about freebies. Offloading crap which I had to send to charity. Not welcome.

Caffeineislife · 08/10/2023 17:44

I've had this a couple of times when buying kids bundles on vinted. The free items have been rubbish quality that no-one would have purchased. Both times the seller has uploaded multiple bundles at a time and it's obvious they are having a clear out. Pretty sure it is decluttering and saves a trip to the tip/ charity shop for the seller.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/10/2023 17:44

Occasionally on kids toys but like "ooh I found thos random toy that's also X Brand so I chucked it in"
I've done it once, totally messed up an order and was a pita to sort. I popped in an age appropriate kids book as a sorry.

Lovemycat2023 · 08/10/2023 17:51

Never happened to me, and I’ve never done it as a seller, but I’ve heard it happening especially with children’s clothes. It would annoy me too.
