Where do you guys live where takeaways don’t deliver?!

The bigger village with multiple takeaways is 12 miles away. Some won’t deliver that far at all, some will, but only if they have more than one delivery locally.

The only one that guarantees a delivery charges £10 delivery charge.

The next village has a Chinese takeaway, but it’s hit and miss if they’ll deliver as they often don’t have a driver.

PinkMoscatoLover · 06/10/2023 05:59

@YetMoreNewBeginnings bloody hell. That’d certainly make me cook more as it seems you can’t really rely on a takeaway. A blessing in disguise I guess?😬

@artG I think we live in the same place.

@Goldencup Is Kokoro a chain? We have one in our nearest city.

I don’t think so @TheOutlaws . Although we have fewer than 500 residents we do actually have a village shop/post office (open about 4 hours a day). I think you said you don’t have one. We also have a pub which used to do food but which now opens only 4 evenings a week. I suspect it will close soon sadly.

ArcticBells · 06/10/2023 06:01

Pizza

Alighttouchonthetiller · 06/10/2023 06:03

8 miles from the nearest town, down twisty country lanes. No-one will even deliver!

I miss Chinese food.

WereYouListeningToTheDudesStory · 06/10/2023 06:05

I've only got one in walking distance and it's KFC.

I always get stuff delivered though and luckily there are dozens and dozens. I was actually complaining about it the other day because there's so much choice it can be beyond difficult to choose what you want. If there was two, it would be easy because then I'm only missing out on one. If there's 100, that's 99 takeaways I can't have.

Poniesandrainbows · 06/10/2023 06:08

None in walking distance.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/10/2023 06:12

10 minutes walk from us we have a nice chippy, a dodgy Indian and a gourmet burger place. Walk for another 5 minutes and you could chose from two other, nicer Indians, Five Guys, Nando's, sushi or Thai.

It’s no coincidence that I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight in the last few years as several takeaways and pubs that delivered have closed 😂

You definitely have to be more organised or just accept that it is something from the one place or nothing.

Bearsinmotion · 06/10/2023 06:18

Fish and chips if it’s a Thursday because that’s when the van comes to the village. Indian if it’s a Friday, because that’s the night the pub does takeaway. Any other night we’d go hungry if I don’t cook!

You do have to make adjustments (I’m originally from Islington/Camden but I feel well-compensated. On most days we get more horses than motors coming down the lane, the farming here is livestock mostly and prices have meant that fewer chemicals are being used on the cultivated fields so the wildlife has made a big comeback. It’s peaceful and the scenery is beautiful. As for the lack of amenity, we make a virtue of it. We eat only home-baked bread because there’s no bakers within easy reach, not even in the local market town; given the paucity of choice, we seldom bother with take-aways , going into town if we feel like a treat or taking something pre-cooked from the freezer if it’s a “can’t be arsed to cook night”. We make our own pizzas from scratch which, to be honest, are better than any (apart from a place down south we used to go to) I’ve had in the UK. I have to say though, it’d be far less liveable if supermarkets didn’t deliver and our mobile coverage is non-existent.

snowstormys · 06/10/2023 06:24

I'd love a Greggs next door! One that opens until very late too!

Sparklehead · 06/10/2023 06:25

Within a 5-10 minute walk we have:

falafel/middle Eastern
fish n chips
dominoes
Chinese
Thai
kebab shop
chippy
Indian

We are in a medium size city, residential area but close to 3 busy shopping/takeaway streets.

AlwaysPrettyOnTheInside · 06/10/2023 06:27

Within walking distance here, there's a pizza restaurant, I assume they do takeaway and an Indian, so I'd have Indian.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 06/10/2023 06:39

The co-op or fish and chips. It would be a 20 min walk each way for fish and chips though. The co-op would be about 7 mins each way.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/10/2023 06:54

50 minutes walk I can get chippy, indian, Chinese, pizza possibly kebab. I sometimes get a Chinese delivered.

Chasingsquirrels · 06/10/2023 06:54

Nothing, unless the pub which has been closed for over a year but which is/has reopened is doing takeaway.

Small Cambridgeshire village of about 250 houses.
1 aforementioned pub.
Primary school.
2 churches.
Village hall.
No other amenities.

MyCircumference · 06/10/2023 06:57

there is a chip shop but i dont trust it - my favourite is a drive away, or walk for over an hour

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/10/2023 06:57

Nothing is within walking distance

Usernamesarenoteasy · 06/10/2023 07:00

In walking distance I have
2 chinese
3 indian
fish and chips
kebab
a new chicken place
dominos

margotrose · 06/10/2023 07:00

Our choices would be:

Chippy x 2
Chinese
Indian
Pizza/kebab x 3

Simonjt · 06/10/2023 07:02

It depends what you class as walking distance, I’ll happily walk a few miles to get somewhere.

Within a short distance we have a little burger shack (like a seaside kioske), but apart from that I’m not sure, no chain places near our house though. The convenience chain Pressbyran, often do take away pastry, coffee etc, so a bit like a shop with a greggs attached.

daffodilandtulip · 06/10/2023 07:06

Peri chicken which is amazing, two minutes away. Chinese, which is the one we use, five minutes away. A £1 bakery two minutes away, which is open in the day, which does actually do nice lunch baguettes. And a chippy that is technically walkable but would leave you with cold chips. So I suppose it's what you class as walkable, as the main town centre is only two miles away...

Hobnobswantshernameback · 06/10/2023 07:08

Indian
chinese
italian
pizza
greek
kebab
chippy
mexican
noodle bar
lebanese

Hobnobswantshernameback · 06/10/2023 07:10

Oh there's a Syrian restaurant as well a bit further away but still walkable
i am very lucky
