Who's had the current Covid strain? I've never felt so ill in my life :(

Started feeling rough at the weekend but thought I was just tired as I'd had my toddler grandson for the weekend, but went to walk the dog yesterday morning and realised I just couldn't... felt dazed and just not with it.

Got a blazing positive which is no surprise as it's spreading through my school like wildfire. By 9am my temp was well over 39, everything hurts and my HEAD. I have never had such a headache in my life, it feels like someone is drilling through my sinuses. I'm alternating paracetamol and ibuprophen but I literally can't get out of bed other than to stagger to the loo. I've pretty much dozed , sweated and that's it. Just waiting for next lot of pills to kick in so I can sleep again.

How long is this likely to last???

Get some Solpadine Max the dissolve in water ones.

HateLongCovid · 03/10/2023 07:18

How is your temperature now? If it's still over 39 you should call your GP or 111. Hope you feel better soon, it's just awful isn't it? Flowers

Lilibert456 · 03/10/2023 07:20

Were your vaccinations up to date? Hope you feel better very soon.

Mine started Saturday. Got a bit tired and a cough/cold. Basically back to normal now.

Chiaseedling · 03/10/2023 07:25

My temp skipped at over 39c at first and I thought the thermometer was broken, but it only lasted about 12 hours at that height. I didn’t call any GP as for adults it’s not dangerous until over 40c, but that obv depends on whether you’re vulnerable or not as well and other symptoms.
Once the temp subsided I just had a god awful cold and felt tired.
Hope you feel better soon, covid is nasty.

Netcam · 03/10/2023 07:28

That sounds exactly like ours a month ago. Unbearable headache and sinus pain, alternated paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 hours day and night to survive. DH, DS1 and I all had similar symptoms, although my sinus pain was worse. First four days were like that, with fever, we just lay in bed. After that we got sore throats and a bit of shortness of breath and runny nose but no cough. Took about 2 weeks to fully recover and were still tired on 3rd week. Hope you get better soon.

Dustpantsandbush · 03/10/2023 07:30

Im on day 7 and much better though still have no taste or smell. The first 4-5 days were horrific, temp of 40, whole body in agony even my skin was painful to touch. I had it in 2020 and it was so mild, a bit shivery and a temp 38 for a couple of days and that was it. This time I felt like I might actually die I felt so unwell. I’m left with very blocked sinus and lingering cough now which I can hopefully shake off in a few more days. Get well soon OP

verdantverdure · 03/10/2023 07:30

I don't know which strain I've just had but would concur with the "never been so ill in my life" part.

DivingForLove · 03/10/2023 07:31

@Lilibert456 most of us can’t get vaccinated now can we? Thought it was only the over 65s?

AbbeyGailsParty · 03/10/2023 07:32

Try one soluble Solpadeine with one co-codamol. Every 4 hours, max 8 in 24 hours. Co-codamol can make you constipated but you can sort that out later.
Hope you feel better soon.

Whu · 03/10/2023 07:33

Yes day 6 and I may make it out of bed today!
Days 1-4 were hideous with sky high fever, shivers, body was in agony. Far the worse variant I’ve had so far.

Current list of who can get a booster.

Lots of conditions are covered by “ weakened immune system” so worth asking as some vaccination centres will take walk ins.

Covid booster: Who can get another jab this autumn?

Covid vaccine rules are changing, but those most at risk are being offered another jab this autumn.

Sorry to hear you're feeling really rough with it OP.

How do you know it's the latest strain? I've had it twice (most recent last week) and I've never known which strain it is.

Everyone is different in how long it takes to shake off. First time I was like a zombie for six days and really glad we had to take ten days off and then my employer told me know to go in any way as I was positive. This time around I wasn't so bad, probably started feeling a bit better around day five. Been back at work now on days nine and ten and felt myself shaky when rushing around, but otherwise ok.

whatsupspot · 03/10/2023 07:41

Yes I've had it recently, most likely the Eris strain. I had nasty headache, body pain, temperature, feeling faint and nasty alongside normal throat and sinus problems. The nastiness started to fade on day eight and I was better by day 11, just fatigued.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/10/2023 07:44

On day 14 and still only just up and about, first 10 days could just about stagger to the loo. Had all my jabs ,this is the first time I've had it. I had the flu earlier in the year and this is mich worse for recovery, still no smell or taste.

Londontown12 · 03/10/2023 08:04

I got it on the 17th September! I am ok but I still have a sore or dry throat in mornings and dry mouth and still congested throughout the day it comes and goes it’s very odd ! I having trouble sleeping as well last few nights ! I’ve had 6 vaccines due another in a week or so ! X

itsgettingweird · 03/10/2023 08:09

We've had lots of staff off with it (also a school!) and also pupils.

All raging temps and headaches.

I had my booster at the weekend (jab 5!) so I'm hoping if it gets me I won't be quite so unwell because this strain seems horrendous.

Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Sonolanona · 03/10/2023 08:24

Ah thanks for your replies... I don't actually know if it's the latest strain..just assuming as I've had it twice previously and this time is much much worse! I don't think I've ever been unable to get up before, ever!
I'm not eligible for jabs but my DS2 is immunosupressed and has just been called for his... need to get him there asap but meantime I'm just trying to keep him away bless him. He's just taken the dog out for me, and I'm very grateful he is around in the mornings as there is no way I can take her out!
Just had lemsip and realised I can't taste anything again. Back to sleep I go...

This one seems to be making people really quite ill for 5-10 days, plus needing to take it very easy for a bit longer after that.

That still counts officially as mild, btw.

LynetteScavo · 03/10/2023 08:48

I also tested positive at the weekend, and agree Civid this time is not fun! I've had it twice before and was just very sleepy with bad brain fog. This time the headache and body aches
are miserable. I fell really dizzy. I don't think I'll be back at work this week, which is going to annoy my boss a lot .

I'm a long way from needing medical help, but this does not feel "mild".

1month · 03/10/2023 09:49

Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that OP.

I’ve not had this strain but your post has made me realise I need to get some paracetamol and some ready meals in just in case (single parent).

I had it a couple of years ago and I’ve honestly never felt so ill in my life.
It was really scary.
Thank goodness I’d been vaccinated as I probably would have needed hospital treatment else.

I now have a covid drawer in the freezer- bread, milk and covent garden chicken soups . Also I've been stock piling paracetamol as the limit of buying 2 boxes in one go is ridiculous when the whole family is ill and needing them regularly. Rehydration sachets really helped too.

GiantPandaAttacks · 03/10/2023 10:01

Me too! Feel utterly awful with it. There was a ‘heavy cold / sickness’ ripping through my school so I’m assuming I’ve picked it up there. I was due to get a booster this Saturday so I was within a week when I tested positive. I’ve spent a lot of time feeling like I can’t breathe enough / properly.

There is a note on the NHS website about no appointments needed for walk in clinics so am assuming that others can get jabbed that way.

Jayneisagirlsname · 03/10/2023 10:04

I'm on 4th time of covid and this is the first time I've had the covid cough. Other than that I don't feel too bad. Maybe I'm finally getting some resistance! First three times were all awful though.
Get well soon all.

Purpleavocado · 03/10/2023 10:05

I had it 6 weeks ago, I felt terrible. DH has it now, he's pretty wiped out. Neither of us had it before. I tested positive for 12 days but felt better by day 9
