Who's had the current Covid strain? I've never felt so ill in my life :(

Started feeling rough at the weekend but thought I was just tired as I'd had my toddler grandson for the weekend, but went to walk the dog yesterday morning and realised I just couldn't... felt dazed and just not with it.

Got a blazing positive which is no surprise as it's spreading through my school like wildfire. By 9am my temp was well over 39, everything hurts and my HEAD. I have never had such a headache in my life, it feels like someone is drilling through my sinuses. I'm alternating paracetamol and ibuprophen but I literally can't get out of bed other than to stagger to the loo. I've pretty much dozed , sweated and that's it. Just waiting for next lot of pills to kick in so I can sleep again.

How long is this likely to last???

Being well over 65, I have had my up to date jab. It put myself and husband in bed for two days. We felt really unwell for best part of a week so the actual full.blown virus doesn't bear thinking of. Son who is diabetic has had his and his wife who has asthma.

MuchTooTired · 03/10/2023 17:28

I’ve got it now. Headache, body aches, dizzy, snotty and sore throat are my main complaints. No resting for me, my DTs have it too and DH is isolating from us so he doesn’t catch it. No medical reason, he just doesn’t fancy it.

I'm having to hoik my big girl pants up and hope it passes quickly which I doubt it will based on our earlier session this year.

My temp skipped at over 39c at first and I thought the thermometer was broken, but it only lasted about 12 hours at that height. I didn’t call any GP as for adults it’s not dangerous until over 40c, but that obv depends on whether you’re vulnerable or not as well and other symptoms.
Once the temp subsided I just had a god awful cold and felt tired.
Hope you feel better soon, covid is nasty.

It's not dangerous at 40C either unless it's for an unusually long period of time.

I'm starting to wonder if there's some other lurgey going round, I've had a POUNDING headache the last few days, however I haven't been able to take my hardcore headpills today as

A) they seem to be phasing them out 😡migraleve as an alternative does not touch it

B) I'd taken them the past 2 days and they are 3 days max and I've got to travel somewhere for work tomorrow that I need them available for as if it turns even worse, I'm up the creek without a paddle

However I only have one test and don't feel any other symptoms bar occasionally being warm but I think that's this ridiculous hot weather

Off to hold my hot water bottle to my head, I can recommend trying that for the headache

Brocollimatilda · 03/10/2023 17:33

Me. Had it for over a week. Just tested negative today. I think it’s the worse I’ve ever felt as well. I’ve started work from home again but am taking it easy as I am exhausted.

Brocollimatilda · 03/10/2023 17:34

Oh and I felt so ill because I could not get my temperature down for about 3 days.

WildFlowerBees · 03/10/2023 17:35

I'm on day 5, night nurse helped me sleep last night finally. I have never felt so ill. I hope tomorrow is better. Recover well 💐

Haggisfish3 · 03/10/2023 17:41

It seems more virulent as well. Definitely more people catching it round me than previous strains.

RobinGet · 03/10/2023 17:50

Currently have Covid for the first time and it’s so much worse than I thought it would be. Aching all over, sore chest, shivering one minute then sweating buckets the next, mouth full of razors, running nose, shortness of breath. No headache though.

Took four days between symptoms first appearing to testing positive.

Lastchancechica · 03/10/2023 18:00

It’s the new variant. You have my sympathies op.

Day 14 only just functioning.

I have never been so ill in my whole life.
I was in pain everywhere even my eye sockets. Couldn’t move for days. Migraine type headache and neck, back pain. Stomach pains. Chest pain. Sickness/diarrhoea. Acute sore throat. Body aches. It’s gets better, then there is a second wave so watch out for that.

I don’t know what to say.

I feel so angry we still have not held anyone responsible for this disaster, and herd immunity is clearly not happening nor is it weakening in time, and that really worries me. We don’t even know what it is, it’s been made in a lab.

I still can’t work.

chatenoire · 03/10/2023 13:27

Am I the only one with a strange feeling around the chest? It feels dry (that's the best I can describe it). Brain fog and blurred vision?

The brain fog, blurred vision and a sensation as if you feel you could collapse but don’t know why is his mine started.

itsgettingweird · 03/10/2023 18:07

He sounded very irritable, annoyed and like he really really did not want to be there.

My theory is some people just don't get it. Like some genetic thing?!

Neither my dad or DS or nephew have ever had it despite being in a household with woman who have!

Everyone has had jabs in my family as both parents on chemo at some points since it started and my ds is clinically vulnerable and my sister works for nhs.

itsgettingweird · 03/10/2023 18:08

Sorry it pasted wrong quote 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That was in response to poster who said about theory being related to vaccine. 🤦‍♀️

Lastchancechica · 03/10/2023 18:10

Get everyone vaccinated that can have one, and spread the word.. people need to know so they can avoid being so ill.

Lastchancechica · 03/10/2023 18:10

Or hospitalised.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/10/2023 18:12

Me too. Not had it before, that I know of. 6 days in bed (unheard of) then 3 taking it really easy. 10 days on, I’m about 80% I’d say.

Namechangedforspooky · 03/10/2023 18:15

Same here OP. Headache from hell, like sinus pain but seemed to be all over the top of my head too. Took loads of painkillers but the only thing that made it bearable was sleeping. Awful brain fog and palpitations in week 2 . I tried to go back to work but was too unwell.
Now day 15. Symptoms have gone and taste has come back but I still feel exhausted. I’m trying to catch up on the last 2 weeks but just don’t seem to have any energy.
And still not really any appetite. It definitely feels worse than last time but there’s more expectation to get up and get on with things this time so maybe I didn’t notice as much last time. I hope you feel better soon!

Archymum · 03/10/2023 18:17

I'm shocked that people don't seem to realise that one of the reasons they are more sick sick with COVID now than they were the last time they had COVID 12-18 months ago is because they haven't had a booster since winter 2021. The government is throwing everyone to the dogs. Get a booster if you can.

Lastchancechica · 03/10/2023 18:19

It’s a massive gamble not vaccinating as many people. Maybe they didn’t know it would be this bad? I am really dreading what is going to happen this winter now.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 03/10/2023 18:37

I just don't understand why we can't pay for the vaccine like we do with the flu jab.

RobinGet · 03/10/2023 19:02

Another symptom I’ve got is tooth and jaw ache. I don’t mean an individual tooth but it’s like my whole set of teeth are about to fall out! Has anyone else had this?

Ultimateactionhero · 03/10/2023 19:05

@Lastchancechica I was the same. I’m also very worried about this going forward. What damage will 20, 30, 40 times of getting this over our lifetime do? I think there will be an overall shortening of lifespan over the next 50 or so years. And we will be the unlucky ones.

Ultimateactionhero · 03/10/2023 19:08

This is a vascular illness for sure. I felt like I was wired, palpitating, poisoned almost. I worry about the long term effects. I’m so angry at the people that released this. No way is this from bats and wet markets. It felt like a kind of chemical warfare.

WildFlowerBees · 03/10/2023 19:14

For the first 2 nights I had a horrible taste in my mouth like post anaesthetic. Pounding headache, sore throat, shortness of breath, cough, nose running then blocked continuously, I hurt to touch and I feel so bloated the dizziness makes me feel like I'm going to fall over. I have a pretty strong constitution but this has knocked the wind out of me. Yet to many it's still 'a cold' or 'like flu' it's really not it's doing things to our bodies other viruses don't.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 03/10/2023 19:49

@Sonolanona

You might be able to get a jab as the carer of a vulnerable person if your son is immuno suppressed.
