Who's had the current Covid strain? I've never felt so ill in my life :(

Started feeling rough at the weekend but thought I was just tired as I'd had my toddler grandson for the weekend, but went to walk the dog yesterday morning and realised I just couldn't... felt dazed and just not with it.

Got a blazing positive which is no surprise as it's spreading through my school like wildfire. By 9am my temp was well over 39, everything hurts and my HEAD. I have never had such a headache in my life, it feels like someone is drilling through my sinuses. I'm alternating paracetamol and ibuprophen but I literally can't get out of bed other than to stagger to the loo. I've pretty much dozed , sweated and that's it. Just waiting for next lot of pills to kick in so I can sleep again.

How long is this likely to last???

I now have a covid drawer in the freezer- bread, milk and covent garden chicken soups . Also I've been stock piling paracetamol as the limit of buying 2 boxes in one go is ridiculous when the whole family is ill and needing them regularly. Rehydration sachets really helped too.

That’s a great idea and definitely something I’m going to do too!

Severntrent · 03/10/2023 10:18

If you live with someone who is immunosuppressed you are eligible for the current booster.
Bit late if you've already got it I realise!

DoctorDogs · 03/10/2023 10:20

My mother had it just last week and swore she was on her way out! She was very weak, very congested and all around just felt miserable. She’s not even 60 yet and reasonably healthy (no conditions), but she still took a massive hit.

I’ve had a whopper of a headache since about 3-4 days ago. Painkillers not helping at all, and just really bad body aches. I took a test last Saturday but it was negative. Haven’t taken one since though

I’m hearing loads of people who have it now, or who have had it in the last few months, say it was the worst case they’d ever had. Most of them were on their 2nd or 3rd round too!

I also tested positive at the weekend, and agree Civid this time is not fun! I've had it twice before and was just very sleepy with bad brain fog. This time the headache and body aches
are miserable. I fell really dizzy. I don't think I'll be back at work this week, which is going to annoy my boss a lot .

I'm a long way from needing medical help, but this does not feel "mild".

"Mild" is anything that does not require hospital treatment.

It is not a synonym for trivial in this context

chatenoire · 03/10/2023 13:27

Am I the only one with a strange feeling around the chest? It feels dry (that's the best I can describe it). Brain fog and blurred vision?

LynetteScavo · 03/10/2023 14:54

@UnmentionedElephantDildo - I think that's what I was trying to say. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LynetteScavo · 03/10/2023 15:00

@chatenoire I had lots of croup as a small child, and then laryngitis as an older child and I've had the similar difficulty in breathing with Covid this time. My chest did feel quite dry. In the middle of the night Iwondered if I was going to need steroids to help me breath (I was probably being over dramatic), but some steam did the job.

TruthSeeker2023 · 03/10/2023 15:04

Interesting that most people who suffer from covid now, are those who have had the vaccines recently. I know a few people who have remained unvaccinated or only had the first two who have never been ill with it ever.

ethelredonagoodday · 03/10/2023 15:06

I am pretty sure i had it a couple of weeks ago, but didn't test.

I felt awful, spent several days in bed. I have definitely had it twice before and both times were mild in comparison to this.

Myneighboursarewankers · 03/10/2023 15:07

Iv got it too! Caught it from DH. 28 weeks pregnant so can’t take anything except paracetamol and have two littles to look after. Dh is helping a lot but I feel like death and really sympathise with you! Xx

Notcookie · 03/10/2023 15:12

I had 39 degree fever for a week but then recovered quite quickly after that.

Sonolanona · 03/10/2023 08:24

Ah thanks for your replies... I don't actually know if it's the latest strain..just assuming as I've had it twice previously and this time is much much worse! I don't think I've ever been unable to get up before, ever!
I'm not eligible for jabs but my DS2 is immunosupressed and has just been called for his... need to get him there asap but meantime I'm just trying to keep him away bless him. He's just taken the dog out for me, and I'm very grateful he is around in the mornings as there is no way I can take her out!
Just had lemsip and realised I can't taste anything again. Back to sleep I go...

You should get the jab as ds carer. That's why I get it.

My ds is at risk. I'm his main carer.

I can counteract your theory. I only had the first 2 over 2 years ago and I am really sick with it at the min.

LateMumma · 03/10/2023 16:25

I've got a killer headache, bad cough and body aches and pains, but testing negative. I'm working on the assumption I have it, as the only time I've ever felt this I'll was with covid or flu. 3 days in and counting...

commonground · 03/10/2023 16:28

Interesting about the strains though. I had it last year during the 'mild' oh it's just like a cold' strain and was really horribly ill.

Have just had it again last week and it really was so mild (only tested as had a sore throat and have a vulnerable relative - not caring for, but was due to visit).

I also only had first 2 vaccs when they were first available.

Christonskiis · 03/10/2023 16:31

I think I had it last week.

2 days off work, should have probably been more, the headache and sweats was the worst.

I'm still napping at lunch times and can't taste or smell

Hardly interesting. Anecdote doesn't equal data.

TheChosenTwo · 03/10/2023 16:37

Had it on holiday last month, it was rotten and I still feel like shit now. I was freezing then boiling with the worst hacking cough I’d ever had. Temperature was high and all I could do was alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen as that’s all we had. Awful.

ThreeRingCircus · 03/10/2023 16:39

I had it last week and you have my sympathies. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I was constantly in bed. Muscle aches, shivering, fatigue and nausea. I couldn't eat so was sipping water or lucozade. Thursday I made it to the sofa and by Saturday I was feeling better but am still zapped energy-wise so am taking it easy. Feeling a lot better than I did though!

I've only had the first 2 vaccines and have only contracted covid for the 1st time this week.

I thought I might be immune but obviously not, it's been pretty rough going the last few days. DH now has it for the first time too

HangingOver · 03/10/2023 16:45

Aye the headache is appalling

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 03/10/2023 17:04

Waaahhhhh.... me! When I had it in 2021 I barely had any symptoms. This time round I've got a raging temperature and feel dizzy. Have spent two days in bed, had to work until 1pm today and went straight to bed when I finished. Only just woken up.

Sympathies to all who are suffering with this strain.

I turned positive 8 days ago, I thought I’d died and gone to hell, I felt so ill.
still got a racking cough, sore throat and a wheeze plus exhaustion.😥

Haggisfish3 · 03/10/2023 17:21

I have it. Super dizzy for a day was first symptom then nose like a tap and sore throat and sneezing. Tested positive three days ago. Now feel ok but am still absolutely exhausted. Smell and taste coming back slowly.
