Who's had the current Covid strain? I've never felt so ill in my life :(

Started feeling rough at the weekend but thought I was just tired as I'd had my toddler grandson for the weekend, but went to walk the dog yesterday morning and realised I just couldn't... felt dazed and just not with it.

Got a blazing positive which is no surprise as it's spreading through my school like wildfire. By 9am my temp was well over 39, everything hurts and my HEAD. I have never had such a headache in my life, it feels like someone is drilling through my sinuses. I'm alternating paracetamol and ibuprophen but I literally can't get out of bed other than to stagger to the loo. I've pretty much dozed , sweated and that's it. Just waiting for next lot of pills to kick in so I can sleep again.

How long is this likely to last???

@Sonolanona

I meant to say that you can just book an appointment online. They will ask you if you are a carer.

I just don't understand why we can't pay for the vaccine like we do with the flu jab.

I heard that you could this time but I'm not 100% sure.

The more people that have it the better for everyone.

HayleyBean · 03/10/2023 19:56

Me, my husband and my 10 month old have it. I feel like I've been run over by a bus. It's been two and a half weeks of feeling shite and I'm so done with it. My little boy is cutting 4 top teeth so has been miserable and is barely sleeping. I think that's why it's taking longer to recover as I'm not getting more than 2 hour blocks of sleep. It's absolutely brutal and I feel ruined.

Unfortunately not @IMustDoMoreExercise, all supply is controlled by the NHS and they restrict it based on clinical need.

Clearly if supplies were limited that would be completely fair but there is no limit on supply. It's just that it hasn't been made available for private supply in the UK. I understand they are available privately in other countries without this impacting supply for those where there is a clinical need

There is pressure to ensure the vaccine is made available privately in the UK by next autumn so hopefully that means it'll happen.

That's grim. Feel sorry for you as it makes you so tired.

My ears are all blocked and sore now, wondering if I need to call GP and ask about a secondary infection or whether they will clear on their own.

Another symptom I’ve got is tooth and jaw ache. I don’t mean an individual tooth but it’s like my whole set of teeth are about to fall out! Has anyone else had this?

From what my friends and I have been able to tell - the inflammation can target almost anywhere and everywhere. We had severe pains in weird places. Mainly our ‘weak’ points, old fractures, arthritic toes, etc.

We all had this too. The infection seems to move around the body.

I tested positive on August bank holiday Monday, pounding headache, sore throat like I was swallowing razor blades, slightly runny nose. After about 3 days all those symptoms vanished and were replaced with d and v, palpitations, cold sweats and being shaky and exhausted if I tried to do anything. Spent 4 days in bed and no idea how many days just sleeping on the sofa. I've never had anything hit me quite the way this has. I tested negative after 14 days but I'm still completely shattered now, no other symptoms just crushing fatigue. Really hope it starts to shift soon as I'm fed up of being tired doing virtually nothing!

@Lastchancechica I was the same. I’m also very worried about this going forward. What damage will 20, 30, 40 times of getting this over our lifetime do? I think there will be an overall shortening of lifespan over the next 50 or so years. And we will be the unlucky ones.

I think the implications are enormous and maybe I have been in denial for a long time. Maybe it will start to dawn on us all now that if we have to endure this every year at least, then the impact on our bodies will be huge and only a matter of time before our hearts, organs etc will be damaged. I can’t even say out loud my fears now - I don’t want to be accused of scaremongering but this is really NOT okay.

Embelline · 03/10/2023 20:29

We are going on holiday at the weekend and I am so nervous about getting it while we are there! It sounds bloody awful. Going to pack solpadeine and cocodamol as that really helped last time.

chatenoire · 03/10/2023 20:31

Would you day this is positive??

B1rd · 03/10/2023 20:32

Eris joined me 6 weeks ago. I felt like I'd been hit by a truck after drinking 4 bottles of wine. Truly awful, Hope you feel better soon.

Lastchancechica · 03/10/2023 20:32

If you want to prepare. Keep a running stock of food and supplies. We used so many boxes of paracetamols, lockets, day and night nurse. Someone that can step in and help with dc if young.

picturethispatsy · 03/10/2023 20:33

I currently have it (my third time) and it’s milder than the other times. I almost didn't test as I thought it was just a scratchy throat but was visiting a vulnerable friend so tested and was surprised see a line. I have a small cough and slight sore throat.

Ive only had one vaccination (a long time ago) and I’d still rather have covid than the horrific effects from that jab :(

Get well soon to all those suffering 💐

Yes very feint though.

Haggisfish3 · 03/10/2023 20:41

No I wouldn’t say it’s positive although I would test again ina say or two.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 03/10/2023 20:43

Thanks @Lastchancechica, I'll give it a few more days. I'm paranoid because I've suffered with my ears in the past.

Haggisfish3 · 03/10/2023 20:44

I have to be honest and say I am concerned about the impact this virus is potentially having in the long term. I could feel my dizziness was something awry-I suspect the virus in my brain cells. Then my nose running but not with snot-a clear runny fluid. Cells being destroyed as my sense of smell and taste goes next. And the damage shown in placentas of pregnant women. I actually think most viruses cause a lot of lasting cellular damage and I would t be at all surprised if more cancers aren’t linked to a past viral infection. As with hpv and cervical/anal cancer.

gotomomo · 03/10/2023 20:50

To those who said only those who are vaccinated are getting it that's simply not true, it's just a lottery it seems as to who gets sick. I've never managed to test positive despite being around people with it including dp, he's never been properly ill- we got lucky that's all

Doublerainbow23 · 03/10/2023 21:05

I've just had it again. Very mild, basically cold symptoms and did feel very tired one day and had a nap, but otherwise fine. Didn't need anytime off work. No one else in the family has had any symptoms. Like all viruses it varies a lot.

Sorry to tell you but that sounds like the other strain and not the newer one. Your symptoms in no way match up.

Surely by this stage people aren't saying only those who got vaccinated are getting it?? Whats wrong with people, has covid turned a section of us mental?

Echobelly · 03/10/2023 21:10

As usual there's quite a variety of responses - TBH it doesn't seem like any more people are really ill with this one than previous. DH has got it right now, he felt very rough for 3 days and is OK now aside from slight residual cough, but apparently quite a lot of people are just having very mild cold-type symptoms that they might not even notice (which is how I had it the last few times). I think I'm coming down with it now and hoping it's not very bad as we are going away in just under a fortnight... albeit at least I'll not be infectious by then and can travel without guilt.

Lastchancechica · 03/10/2023 21:13

Can I ask something. Amongst our friends it seems to be affecting women far more this time. Anyone else?
