Sweet - Poppa Joe

Slade - Gudbuy T' Jane. How Does It Feel is great but a little beyond the GR era.
T.Rex - Ride A White Swan. Children of the Revolution also good.

No mention of Gary Glitter songs in order to avoid unpleasantness and controversy. However, The Glitter Band were very talented in their own right.

Suzi Quatro's three early 70s hits were virtually indistinguishable from one another.

Arguably, some early 70s David Bowie, Roxy Music and Wizzard records could be pigeonholed as Glam Rock, though the fans might disagree. Rebel, Rebel and Virginia Plain are my favourites from DB and RM. Wizzard were very full on but samey.

Bowie/Roxy defined glam 1st 3 Roxy albums, Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane. Sweet - Blockbuster, T.Rex - Metal Guru/Get It On/telegram Sam etc

I’m just a little too young really though I’ve seen Wizzard live a few times and the first few times they were great.Awful the last time though. Mud were also fun live.
All The Young Dudes is an all time classic.
Ballroom Blitz is great.

Mud and Sweet were curious bands. Most of their hits were written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, at least until both broke away from the Chinnichap camp and became a little more independent. They were all good musicians though and Mud, in particular, were all talented vocalists. Their harmonies on 'Oh Boy' were quite impressive.

I'd argue that Wizzard were little more than a front for Roy Wood's considerable musicianship, having lost control of ELO to Jeff Lynne. I love 'See My Baby Jive' but 'Angel Fingers' is a poor clone. In the case of both bands, the productions were easily identifiable from one hit to the next. Their trademarks, if you will.

I love the Sweet dont forget Ball room blitz. Can we include some early Queen?

Loved T-Rex Metal Guru and most David Bowie of that era, especially Aladdin Sane.

Include whoever was making popular cheesy pop at the time. Queen certainly were. And the Bay City Rollers. The Scottish quintet was another band of their time, whose musicianship was never apparently in doubt, but whom were completely controlled by their manager (Tam Paton) and many of whose hits were supplied and produced by outsiders, Bill Martin and Phil Coulter to begin with, then Phil Wainman. Having said that, they made some very catchy records and their massive success, albeit brief, speaks for itself. 'Shang-a-Lang' is delightful and inconsequential. Like Mud and Sweet, they eventually began writing their own material.

Pilot was another Scots GR band who enjoyed rather less success than the Rollers. 'Magic' was great, 'January' less so.

I must sound like Paul Gambaccini.

Were Pilot really Glam Rock though?

I've recently come back from a 70's weekend at Butlins , where all of those songs you've all mentioned were played. It was absolutely fabulous.

Pilot and the Rollers probably don't qualify as GR but they were having hits when GR was still about, albeit in its autumn days. Same as Queen.

Was there a band called Rubetts or similar. Sugar Baby Love? they had white suits and hats I recall.

I suppose the Glam Rock band was probably Abba. I remember watching Waterloo live on the ESC.

The Rubettes were indeed a white-suited band. I think they were originally session musicians before striking out on their, again with songs by outside writers. Sugar Baby Love was their first hit, actually sung by Paul da Vinci rather than Alan Williams, their regular vocalist. Jukebox Jive and I Can Do It were their other big hits.

I don't remember watching the programme 'Marc' but I remember it was on TV in 1977, not long before he died. I believe he was attempting a comeback. Too bad.

Keep a little Marc in your Heart! So sweet and polite and coquettish. Loved T.Rex, Mickey Finn on the bongos- great times. 20th Century Boy, Get in on and Children of the Revolution are still insanely great songs. I went down a T.Rex rabbit hole during the pandemic revisiting my childhood Electric Warrior is still a great album , as is The Slider. Life's a Gas and I hope it's gonna last.

Sweet were an incredibly talented band - it was always great fun to see them on TOTP, especially Steve Priest - Teenage Rampage, Piece of the Action, Six Teens, Blockbuster, Fox on the run - I think the early stuff like Wig Wam Bam, Little Willy and Coco meant they weren't seen as serious Rockers later and then Brian was difficult, fell into drink and drugs and got beaten up and lost his voice. They should have been stadium fillers. Mind you every kid on our street knew the words to Wig Wam Bam and we would all join arms and skip along singing it.

I'm not a big Slade Fan but I liked Cuz I love you with the electric violin solo. My brother used to get excited to see what Dave would wear on TOTP's and then he'd draw the outfit with the big stacked boots and guitar!l

@BestIsWest we bumped into the lead singer a few years ago in the pub. He didn't look much different.

@ChaToilLeam I do but sadly I was a bit too young to rennet much about it though.
