What was a weird dream you had as a kid?

I've been reminded tonight of this weird recurring dream I used to have. Interesting how I used to have recurring dreams as a very young kid but not any more up until very recently (so about a 30 year gap) and that is to do with a bereavement, so possibly a bit of trauma involved there.

Anyway, occasionally I used to have this dream up until about the age of 5/6 where I would be dreaming about something random but then this cartoon ghost that was a grandma used to appear in my dreams and she would scare the absolute shite out of me (she didn't do anything just the fact that she was there would signify something bad). And nothing else in my dream was in a cartoon so I would be dreaming about normal people situations then this random 2D character would just appear and I would need to get out of there ASAP. Not long after I proudly mastered the art of being able to wake myself up from a bad dream by realizing and concentrating really hard. I hardly ever ever have bad dreams anymore and if I do they are nowhere near as freaky as the ones I had when I was a kid.

Used to always dream there was a tiger in our back garden that was waiting for me to leave the house so it could attack me.

CambridgeLass · 30/09/2023 21:50

‘Flying’ down the stairs.

MyBedIsMySpiritualHome · 30/09/2023 21:51

I could fly as a child. I had to run across the garden to take off.

my mum says I couldn’t fly and that it was a dream.

if it was a dream, it was the most epic, realistic, recurring same-but- different series of dreams I have ever had.

TomatoSandwiches · 30/09/2023 21:52

A man covered in sick from head to toe chasing me around primary school.

YellowHatt · 30/09/2023 21:52

I used to dream I could fly too. It felt a bit like sky swimming.

SunnySomer · 30/09/2023 21:52

I used to dream about an old man on a motorbike driving his motorbike through our front door. He terrified me. Really regular, petrifying dream, no idea of its origin.

ineedsomuchhelp · 30/09/2023 21:55

Falling from our landing over the rail and headfirst down the stairs.

Very realistic - I thought it had happened once and the dreams were traumatic memories. Never happened.

Dreams, where I was "awake" and I could secretly fly, it was kind of more a hover, so I'd be on tiptoes and kinda hover around an inch above the ground and then be able to float along, quite quickly too.

Wheredideveryonego · 30/09/2023 21:55

I used to dream I was falling in bed down a long lift shaft type thing then I'd wake up holding my breath.

I've heard of other people having similar experiences and being really panicked, but for me it was always calm.

I had a recurring dream that there was a scary wolf outside the bathroom window that would be looking in at me. The bathroom was on the 1st floor so it was a very big wolf.

Freezingcoldinseptember · 30/09/2023 22:01

Polar bear in via the cat flap drinking hot chocolate in front of the old gas fire.... And being murdered in a tent (around 7yo)..

😂The image in my head is very comical and cute. Like a concerned, friendly wolf.

I was trapped in the TV after the test card. There would be lots of other people. The others were invisible but i could hear them whispering.

Eminybob · 30/09/2023 22:01

I used to dream that my teeth were falling out. It would start out with a wobbly one then the next thing I'm spitting them out like they are tic tacs.

Then more recently just loads of gunk in my mouth like cooked mince or something really grainy that I'm trying to spit out but my mouth keeps making more of it

Dreams are so weird. There are places I go in my dreams that I have never been in real life but I have been visiting since I was a child in my dreams.

Plump82 · 30/09/2023 22:02

I used to dream I was in a sort of ranch type building, all made of wood. There was a ghost and it used to throw slippers at me that were novelty Miss Piggy ones. Very random!

SofiYol · 30/09/2023 22:03

When I was around 5 I used to dream that I was in a big sealed concrete room, no doors or windows just a little hole in one wall.

Bubbles would come through the hole but I couldn’t pop them so the room just gradually filled with bubbles and I couldn’t escape.

Analyse that one!

MoiraRosesBaybay · 30/09/2023 22:04

I still get the flying dreams. Not flying up high but more floating down the street rather than walking.

Jewelanemone · 30/09/2023 22:06

I used to dream that I was flying down the stairs in the house I grew up in. I would be lightly holding onto the bannister as I went down. It was always down and never up.

DreamTheMoors · 30/09/2023 22:07

I had a recurring nightmare when I was 10-11 that I was in the car with my dad driving up a mountain road on a sheer cliff when the road suddenly stopped - and continued on after a big gap.
I’d up when the car started to fall through the gap after not making it to the other side.

Snap. Exactly this.

Apparently this is a thing (see PP who has also mentioned).

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 30/09/2023 22:30

I used to dream I could run so fast, but each step would see me cover 30 or 40 meters, huge bounding jumps- I could feel my hair whipping back with the force of it and the wind on my face! I loved those dreams! I also used to dream that I could float, I would put my arms out and lean forwards and lift my feet off the floor! There was a reoccurring nightmare too, I'd e in an abandoned house and all the rooms were yellow and I'd be walking through room after room and suddenly the floor would go soft and springy and it meant that they were going to get me, iv no idea who they were, but I could sense them behind me and I'd have to get past that room quickly to get to one with a solid floor where I'd be safe!

I read that the flying up the stairs dream is a memory of being carried to bed.

Think about it, how often have you carried your children and how often do you remember being carried. I don’t remember at all, but it must have happened.

Thank you for reframing that for me 😊

As a kid it was fucking sinister and out to get me 😂

Maybe your tiger and my wolf fought it out and left us alone after that 😊

I dreamt I had a blue blazer with gold buttons. When I was going to school next day I asked where my blazer had gone. Mum told me I had never owned one it was so real
